Legs

If I have to see one more interview where Tom Fontana tells the story behind how he became the one to get the Oz tattoo for the opening credit sequence, I'll scream.

Hill explains that he used to be a runner, and then explains the difference between a runner and a marathoner. We pan out to reveal a bunch of people behind Hill, running on treadmills. I think one of those guys is in the Tae Bo videos. Hill thinks marathons are "bullshit," because some official decides when you run and "there's some things, it's better to do all by yourself."

Claire walks through solitary, opening the little panels in the doors to check on each prisoner. When she gets to Alvarez's cell, she proclaims, "Holy shit!" and rushes in to cut him down from the noose he has created from a bed sheet. Wouldn't someone with all of Alvarez's mental problems be on a suicide watch? Alvarez is rushed to the infirmary, where Gloria works on him while her Evil Boss looks on, dismayed. Man, that Evil Boss has some weird eyebrows. He looks like he's about to fly away, flapping them like wings.

Cut to Gloria yelling at her boss, saying, basically, "I told you so." Remember, she fought to keep Alvarez on antidepressants, and her boss thought it was too expensive? They're in a meeting with Glynn, McManus, and Sister Pete. Evil Boss and his eyebrows make some reference to Gloria being gone soon anyway, and Sister Pete looks surprised. Leo asks if Alvarez is going to live, and Gloria confirms that he is. Sister Pete tells Evil Boss and his eyebrows that the time he withholds medication, the patient might die. Evil Boss and his eyebrows say that the government contracted with his company to run the prison health care system, and he has "complete autonomy" to make "judgment calls." He storms out of the room. McManus looks disgusted and tells Leo, "This is bullshit." Leo says that Evil Boss and his eyebrows are right -- Leo has no authority in this matter. McManus wonders what they can do, and they all sit there, stumped. Finally, Gloria says, "Go public." Leo arches an eyebrow (a very normal eyebrow) and smiles.

Cut to Gloria shaking some guy's hand as he leaves. Evil Boss and his eyebrows walk in and ask who that was. Gloria tells him it was a reporter who wanted an interview about Alvarez. Evil Boss and his eyebrows are all, "You didn't tell him..." Gloria says she did, since he fired her and she has nothing to lose. Evil Boss and his eyebrows say he'll play it off like she's just a disgruntled ex-employee. Gloria says that might work, but the time someone dies, Evil Boss and his eyebrows won't have anyone to blame. She advises Evil Boss and his eyebrows to get a red tie, because "it'll look better on camera," and walks off. That Gloria is a smooth operator. Evil Boss and his eyebrows pick up a phone and call someone, saying that it's an emergency. Gloria walks over to check on Alvarez, and looks back at her Evil Boss and his eyebrows, probably thinking, "You are so played right now."

Gloria is called into the Governor Runty's office. Governor Runty says that he has a problem, because he got a call from a reporter about Alvarez, and he also got a call from the CEO of the health care company, who is "an old friend, a generous friend." Governor Runty asks Gloria if she's gone on camera yet. Gloria says she hasn't. Governor Runty offers to reinstate her, put Alvarez back on the medication, and get the health care company to "loosen the purse strings." Gloria asks about Evil Boss and his eyebrows. Governor Runty tells her that Evil Boss and his eyebrows did back-alley abortions in the seventies and killed a woman, and yet somehow got his license renewed. Governor Runty thinks that the reporter will run with that story in exchange for burying the one about Alvarez. Governor Runty asks if they have a deal, calling Gloria "a reasonable person." Gloria sighs and says that she wants to stay, but she needs to know that things will really be different. Governor Runty smirks and says she has "[his] solemn word." They shake on it. Man, I wouldn't trust that guy as far as I could throw him. And he's pretty small, so I could probably throw him pretty far. The prisoners watch Evil Boss and his eyebrows being surrounded by reporters as he exits the building. It would be cool if he just took flight. Goodbye, Evil Boss and his eyebrows! Sister Pete wakes up Alvarez in the infirmary. He asks if he's in heaven. Gloria tells him, "Not quite." Alvarez realizes that he's still in prison and says, "You should have let me die. You should have let me die."

Ooh, it's one of those flashback "How I Got to Prison" segments. I should probably come up with a clever name for these, like Strega and her blipverts. Post any suggestions in the forums. Two guys get into the back of a limo: Beefy and Russky. Russky pulls out some loose diamonds. Beefy takes them and hands Russky some money. While Russky is counting the money, Beefy flashes a badge. The limo driver turns around, also holding a badge, and pointing a gun at Russky. Hill tells us that this is Prisoner #99S233, Nikolai Stanislofsky. I think I liked Russky better. His crime was possession of stolen goods with intent to sell, and his sentence is fifteen years, up for parole in five.

Russky walks into Em City, wearing a sweet nylon tracksuit. Busmalis is questioning him about being from Russia. Russky says he did seven years in a Soviet gulag, so Oz will be a piece of cake. He stops and asks about Miss Sally on the television. The prisoners are making typical Miss Sally remarks. Busmalis stares at the television wistfully. Russky walks into his cell and starts arranging his belongings. He ask Busmalis if they are near death row, because he knew a man named Alexander Vogel and would like to shake the hand of the man who killed him. Busmalis helpfully informs Russky that Richie Hanlon would be the killer.

Shirley is knitting in her cell, and asks Richie to hold up his arm so that she can figure out how long to make the arms of her sweater. Richie does so, while never lifting his eyes from the book he is reading. Vern arrives with the mail. He flirts with Shirley while delivering a teapot. That seems like it should be a euphemism, but it isn't. Shirley says her new lawyer is filing an appeal, so she figures she's going to be around a while longer, and Vern is glad to hear it. The guard finally breaks up the love fest. Vern turns to Richie, telling him that he gets no mail today. Vern speculates, "All [Richie's] little fag friends are too busy getting their legs waxed [to send him mail]." Richie spits an insult at Vern, and manages to mispronounce Schillinger, which never fails to crack me up, because it gets Vern so riled up. Vern leaves.

Shirley asks what's up with all the animosity between Vern and Richie. Like someone needs a reason to hate Vern besides the fact that he's evil. Richie tells her that Vern and a friend killed a Russian guy, hung him by the ankles in the gym, and carved "Jew" in his chest. Luckily, we get to see a flashback of that. Lovely. Vern told Richie that if he didn't confess to the murder, they would kill him. Shirley figures that it's a death sentence either way, and wonders why Richie doesn't tell the truth now. Richie says that Vern's friend is dead, so it's Richie's word against Vern's, and he has no proof. Shirley suggests that Richie lie and say that he and Vern committed the murder together. Richie finally takes his eyes off his book for the first time and asks how that saves him. Shirley says that it doesn't, but it would get Vern on death row. Richie thinks it over as Shirley tells him that it's "just something to consider."

McManus goes to visit Snake Coyle, a.k.a. Treach. McManus asks why Coyle told Hill about killing that family. Coyle replies that McManus might as well ask why he had his friend videotape the crime, or why he did the crime at all. McManus presses him, and Coyle admits that he wanted Hill's respect, but now he just wants him dead. McManus walks away, and Coyle yells out, "It's a thin line between love and hate." That Treach -- he's naughty by nature. He's also a terrible actor.

The prisoners watch a news report about Coyle. Ryan is all pissed that they have to show the video of Coyle's crime. One of the bikers tells him not to be "a vag." I'm going to have to incorporate that one into my vocabulary. Busmalis and Cyril want to watch Miss Sally because she has "big bazooms." Someone mentions that Hill is in protective custody. Kenny walks up and tells them that Hill (who has just appeared on screen, coming out of the courthouse after giving his testimony) is a rat, and he'll be punished.

In a cell, Hill tells McManus about his testimony, and then admits that the best thing about the experience was the sense of freedom he got from being driven around the city. Hill knows that Kenny and his friends will kill him. Hill still isn't sure that he did the right thing, because Coyle's victims are dead and the trial won't bring them back. McManus says, "We'll take care of you." Hill starts laughing hysterically. Can you blame him?

Said, Nappa, Vern, and Guerro meet in the library. Nappa is hacking up a lung, and says he has the flu. Or AIDS. You know, one or the other. Said brings up the Hill situation, and says he's appealing to the men's consciences. On the word "conscience," they cut to Vern, which cracked me up, since he doesn't have one. Said says that they have all committed murder in the course of business, but this is different; Coyle's actions threaten their families. Vern asks what he wants, and Said asks them to help him protect Hill and show Wangler that he can't harm Hill. Nappa knew the family Coyle killed. When Vern finds out that the father served in Vietnam, he pledges his group's help. Guerro is in too. Said asks Nappa, who says that his group will help, and he'll "do [Said] one better." Cut to a very dead Coyle in his cell, with blood dripping down his back onto the floor.

Wangler and his friend sit in the common area. The friend wants to kill Nappa and Hill for their parts in Coyle's demise. Wangler knows that any move they make now will bring a whole lot of trouble, and says they need to wait until the time is right.

Ricardo sits naked on the floor in solitary, weeping. A guard comes in and throws him his clothes. Ricardo goes to the visitors' room to see his family, whose numbers have dwindled from last week. One of his sisters is missing. The rest of the family tries to make excuses, but his father admits that her husband doesn't want her visiting Ricardo anymore. Ricardo gets pissed and says to tell his sister that she's "dead to [him]." He storms out of the room, but runs back in to grab the fruit basket that they brought him. Heh.

A sweaty, out-of-breath Hill explains the concept of "hitting the wall" in terms of running, when you think that you can't take another step without imploding. For me, that happens around the one-minute mark.

In his cell, Ricardo bangs his head against the wall and then starts punching it. Cudney the Christian comes up and suggests that they pray together. Ricardo grabs the preacher and jacks him up against the cell wall. Clayton shows up and tells Ricardo to drop the knife, but Ricardo won't. Clayton calls for back-up, and two other guards run in and restrain Ricardo, dragging him off. Ricardo gets right in Clayton's face, saying, "You've got no balls!" We get a flash of the crazy Clayton we will come to know so well in future episodes.

Poet writes on some paper. Adebisi, who I still have trouble recognizing with hair and without the hat, sneaks up behind Poet and asks if he's writing poetry. Poet says he doesn't do that anymore, and Adebisi says that is too bad. Poet tells Adebisi to leave him alone, and hurries away. As he walks away, we see that Adebisi has one pant leg pulled up and a red and yellow striped sock on. Hee!

Arif brings Said a glass of water. Khan exposits that Said has been on his hunger strike for four days with no reaction from Glynn or McManus. Said is confident that they will have to react soon. Four days? I can't go four hours without eating. Maybe that explains why I "hit the wall" around the one-minute mark.

Said's lawyer tells him that the judge accepted their class-action suit, but the trial won't start for two months. Said isn't happy about the delay, and asks the lawyer to visit Leo.

In Leo's office, the lawyer tells them that if they don't allow the Muslims to fast on their own terms, additional Muslims will start going on hunger strikes until all the Muslims in every prison in the state are starving. The lawyer points out that on top of the lawsuit, this is "bad press, bad karma, gentlemen." The lawyer leaves, and Leo suggests that they give in. McManus is concerned that Said's stature will grow, and he will use a hunger strike the time he has demands. Leo says that time, they won't have a lawsuit pending. McManus still thinks that they are losing, and Leo Zens, "Sometimes, the only way to win is to lose."

That night in his cell, Said opens a secret compartment containing a bunch of fruit and pulls out an apple. He says a prayer and then looks out to see McManus staring at him. Said smiles and bites into the apple. Across the way, Poet watches as well.

As Said, Beecher, and McManus run on treadmills behind him, Hill wonders what the deal is with treadmills, anyway. What is he, Seinfeld all of a sudden? "What's the deal with treadmills? You run and run, but you never get anywhere. It's like being a hamster on a wheel in a cage!" Okay, that part's only funny if you read it in a Seinfeld voice.

Claire comes into McManus's office and apologizes for overreacting about McManus comforting Diane. Flashback to Claire and Tim scrapping in his office. Claire apologizes again and says she just wants to be back where they were. Tim says that he's sorry if he gave her the wrong impression, but he's not looking for a relationship, and he didn't know that the sex would mean that much. Claire looks like she's about to go boil some rabbits. She knocks on the window to get Adebisi to stop watching them. She turns around and too brightly says that they can just be friends who fuck. McManus thinks that sex will complicate things, because it always does. Claire insists that that won't happen, but McManus isn't having it. Claire asks if she's no good in bed, and when McManus doesn't answer right away, she loses it. She tells him that he's not that great either, and asks him if he can't commit because he'd rather be "sucking off one of these guys." McManus sighs, and Claire asks if she's hitting a nerve. McManus replies calmly, "No, you're boring me." Claire yells "cocksucker" a couple of times and leaves. She scares the crap out of me, y'all.

Claire goes to check on Bevilacqua in solitary, and finds him ripping apart his pillow. When she enters the cell, he says, "Nice tits." Man, this is so not the day to mess with her. She starts beating the crap out of him with her nightstick.

In Leo's office, McManus points out that the incidents with Alvarez and Bevilacqua both happened on Claire's watch. Leo points out that she's new. McManus points out that Bevilacqua might have permanent brain damage. Damn! McManus yells that he wants Claire fired, and he storms out of the office to find Claire sitting there like a penitent child. Leo escorts Claire into his office and shuts the door.

McManus tries to get everyone's attention to introduce Sean Murphy, the new guard. In the background, Ryan and Cyril are playing a game where Ryan tries to slap Cyril's hands before Cyril can pull them away. Hee! Murphy makes a little speech about how he knows the prisoners are tough and life sucks in Oz, but he hopes they won't do anything to force him to make things tougher. Ryan tells Cyril that Murphy is Irish like them, and "things are looking up."

In the cafeteria, Vern calls Cyril "buttercup," which causes Ryan to vault over the serving trays and go after Vern. The guards haul Ryan away as he continues to threaten Vern, who is just laughing. After Ryan is gone, Vern calls Cyril "sweet cheeks."

Ryan pleads with McManus not to put him in solitary and leave Cyril vulnerable. Murphy is there too. McManus says that Ryan should have thought of that before losing his temper. Ryan apologizes, and McManus just laughs at him. Murphy asks if he can handle it, and McManus gives his blessing. Outside the office, Murphy says he'll let Ryan go this time, and warns him not to do it again. Ryan wonders why Murphy is being so nice, and Murphy says he has brothers too. Ryan points out their common heritage, and Murphy acknowledges that that might be part of it as well. As they walk back to Em City, Ryan asks Murphy about being a Golden Gloves champ. Murphy is self-deprecating, but Ryan asks for help in coaching Cyril in the boxing tournament. Murphy doesn't think he should, because it would be favoritism. Ryan asks him to offer tips on the down low, "for Ireland." Murphy chuckles and says he'll see.

In the gym, various prisoners are placing bets as Ryan watches Cyril practice. Ryan looks over to Murphy, who gives him a thumbs-up and a grin.

It's time for the first boxing match. The guard/referee tries to quiet things down so that he can make introductions, but the prisoners are very raucous. Finally, he manages to introduce Pancamo, who will be fighting some guy I've never seen before named Pasquin. I think Pasquin is one of the biker guys. The referee gives the boxers their instructions and then calls for the bell. Pancamo lands one monster punch, and Pasquin drops like a stone. Various people look amazed, happy, or pissed, depending on how they placed their bets, I suppose. Pancamo celebrates in the ring.

Ryan reads a book about Muhammad Ali in the library. A guard (the one who looks like Ted Danson) escorts Vern and Robson in. Ryan tells the guard to "get these two fucks away from me." Vern asks after Cyril and informs Ryan that Cyril will be fighting Robson. Ryan stands up and says to Robson, "Beecher bit off the tip of your dick. How'd you like to lose the rest of it?" Vern and Robson make faux-shocked faces as the guard tells Ryan to move along. The guard tells Robson that among the guards, the odds are five to one in Robson's favor.

Ryan and Cyril enter the visitors' room to see their Aunt Brenda. Cyril's all excited that she brought candy, but Ryan slaps it out of his hand because he's in training. Aunt Brenda can't believe that Ryan thinks Cyril should box, given his mental status, and asks Cyril if that's what he wants. Aunt Brenda opines that Ryan bullies Cyril into doing what Ryan wants, and that's why Cyril's brain is "muddled" and he's in prison. Ryan asks Aunt Brenda where he was when their father was beating them and their mother, and that Ryan had to protect Cyril then. Aunt Brenda tells Ryan that he has the devil in him, "just like [his] father." At this, Ryan's gaze goes steely and he throws the candy to the ground and stomps out, calling for Cyril to follow. Cyril gives Aunt Brenda a hug before leaving.

Ryan has a surreptitious conversation with Murphy about Cyril's chances of survival. Murphy tells Ryan about their heritage, and how the Irish had to figure out how to survive, so Ryan will figure something out because it's in his blood. Wow, thanks, Murphy. That was helpful.

Ryan approaches Cudney in the laundry room and asks why the Christians don't have a boxer in the tournament. Cudney says that they feel it's morally wrong. Ryan nods, and then asks Cudney if he's still working bedpan duty in the hospital ward and whether he wants to make some extra cash. Cudney is interested, so Ryan whispers his plan.

In the hospital ward, the preacher pockets a bottle of Chloral Hydrate. In the gym, Ryan grabs Robson's water bottle (which is helpfully labeled and left on a shelf) and pours about half the bottle of Chloral Hydrate in there.

During the match, Cyril appears to be losing, but it's not completely one-sided. The bell rings announcing the end of the round. One of the swishy gay guys carries a card around the ring announcing the new round. In his corner, Robson takes a huge swig out of his water bottle. Ryan sees this and smiles, then tells Cyril that everything's going to be fine. The bell rings to start the new round. Robson keeps rubbing his gloves across his face as if he has flies swarming him. Cyril gets in a bunch of good punches on a clearly disoriented Robson. The bell rings for the end of the round. Are the rounds, like, thirty seconds long? Vern yells at Robson for letting Cyril get the better of him, and makes him drink some more water. Heh. When Robson comes out for the final round, he's stumbling all over the place. Cyril punches him in the gut a few times and then lands a huge uppercut. Robson falls to his back on the mat, out cold. Ryan and Cyril celebrate in the ring. Vern looks confused as Ryan flips him the bird.

Hill tells us that when you are in a race, you want to win at all costs. Hill says that he was best at the short distance races, because he was so fast, and "in [his] 'hood, you had to learn to run before you learned to walk."

Rebadow goes up to Murphy in the guard's control center and says that he's supposed to get a dialysis treatment. Murphy checks his clipboard and doesn't see anything about it. Rebadow explains that he went yesterday, and Gloria told him he would come back today. Clayton offers to call and check it out, and gets on the phone. Murphy adds that the only thing going on for Rebadow today is a visitor. Rebadow says it's his mother, and Murphy gives him one of the funnier looks I've seen Murphy give a prisoner, like, "Your mother is still alive and kicking?"

Rebadow meets with his mother, who looks about the same age as him, or possibly younger. I guess prison ages you. Rebadow tells her about his diabetes. Mama Rebadow talks about Rebadow's grandson who has leukemia, and how he was doing so well after he went to Sea World, but now he's starting to falter. Rebadow wishes he could do something, and Mama Rebadow tells him he should meet the boy, and confesses that she told Rebadow's son the truth about him being in prison. Rebadow is pissed. Mama Rebadow says she didn't want to go to her grave knowing that a promise she made thirty years ago kept Rebadow from meeting his family. Rebadow says firmly that meeting them won't do any good, and walks away. Mama Rebadow yells out, "Not meeting them hasn't done any good either!"

In the cafeteria, Ryan hands Rebadow a special meal. Busmalis tells Rebadow to hurry up so that they can eat before Schillinger gets there. Rebadow ain't looking so hot. Busmalis say that Schillinger always spits in his food and makes him eat it. Rebadow suggests that Busmalis spit in Schillinger's food, but Busmalis says that Schillinger would "rip out [his] salivary glands." Schillinger shows up, and Busmalis starts spitting in his own food. Schillinger just looks at him like he's insane and walks away. Busmalis contemplates his spitty food and asks Rebadow, "Wanna trade?" Hee! Rebadow turns gray(er) and collapses to the floor.

In the infirmary, Gloria treats Rebadow, and asks if he went to dialysis today. Hapless Intern says that he forgot to schedule it. Gloria is pissed.

Later, Gloria goes to visit a much less gray Rebadow in the ward. Gloria comments that it was quite a scare, and asks if there's anything else she can do. Rebadow asks to use the phone. He places a call and says, "Mama? I've changed my mind."

Rebadow sits in the visitors' room, waiting. A guy and a little kid walk in. The little kid is wearing a beanie with a propeller on top. The fuck? The kid walks in, puts the beanie on Rebadow's head and hugs him. Rebadow glances over to the guy in the doorway, his son, and smiles. What was up with that beanie?

Flashback to Adebisi sticking Nappa with the AIDS infected needle. In the AIDS ward, Adebisi helps a patient into bed. The patient says he knew that Adebisi used his blood to try to infect someone with AIDS, and wants to know who it is. Adebisi tells the patient that he's delirious.

In the bathroom, Nappa asks Adebisi why he transferred to the hospital to be around "those fags." Adebisi says that outside, he doesn't like gays, but in prison, "sometimes you need your dick sucked." That Adebisi is a philosopher for the ages, no? Nappa says that unlike Adebisi, he has self-control, and he believes that "fags are fags, dirty perverted animals." Adebisi says gleefully that he wishes he were more like Nappa, and then asks about the Sicilian practice of kissing each other. Nappa says that is about "respect, not sex." Adebisi walks into the shower, drops his towel, and scratches his ass. He's still wearing the one striped sock. Man, that guy kills me.

Gloria tells Nappa that he's HIV-positive. Nappa says that it's not possible, because he hasn't had sex or shared a needle. Gloria says that she double-checked, and Nappa insists that she triple-check. Gloria tells him that by state law, he has to be transferred to a special HIV unit. Nappa wants to talk to the warden, and says, "This isn't happening to me!"

Nappa packs up his things in preparation for his transfer. Pancamo doesn't understand how this happened, and Nappa says that someone must have monkeyed with the tests. Nappa tells Pancamo that the unit is isolated, so they won't have contact, and until he gets back, Pancamo is in charge. As Nappa leaves, he goes to kiss Pancamo on the cheek, but Pancamo pulls away. Nappa walks out of Em City, right past Adebisi and his striped sock. Nappa enters his new cell to find that his roommate is in drag. He says, "Fuck!" as the door to his cell is slammed shut behind him. I love how one person's fortunes can completely change on this show in the space of about six minutes of airtime.

Flashback to Keller getting stabbed in the storage room. McManus visits Keller in the infirmary, telling Keller that he gets to go back to Em City by the end of the day. Keller is glad to hear that. McManus says that Keller made a miraculous recovery, considering that he had two stab wounds in the back, and wonders if Keller has any idea who did it. Keller says they attacked from behind and it was dark, so he doesn't know. McManus whispers that they know it was Schillinger, or someone taking orders from Schillinger, but they have no proof. McManus also thinks that Keller is talking all this calmly. Keller asks McManus about his brush with death in the riot, and talks about how that changes your perspective. Keller says he had every right to snitch on Schillinger, and Schillinger has every right to try to get revenge. Speaking of the devil (literally), in walks Schillinger, delivering mail. McManus says they know that he's behind Keller's injuries. Schillinger says that while it fits metaphorically, since Keller backstabbed him, he didn't do it. Schillinger wishes that he did, but if he had done it, Keller would be dead. Schillinger walks off while Keller chews his gum real hard.

Keller goes to see Sister Pete to talk about Beecher. Sister Pete says that she knows Beecher was in love with Keller, and Keller broke his arm and legs. Keller says, "Well, Jesus Christ, when you put it that way, it makes me sound so cold." Keller says that he is sorry about what happened, and wants to make it up to Beecher by joining Sister Pete's new victim interaction program. Sister Pete says that Beecher has to agree. Keller points out that Beecher respects Sister Pete and will follow her recommendation. Sister Peter asks Keller if he really cares about Beecher. Keller says, "You got no reason to believe me, but yeah." Sister Pete says that she'll see what she can do.

In their cell, Beecher yells at Keller for getting Sister Pete involved. Keller says that he wants to make things right. Keller is having this conversation while taking a leak, naked. You'd think that would be distracting. Beecher says he can't trust Keller, and doesn't even trust himself, and that he's going to get Schillinger. Keller says he can help, but Beecher doesn't want help. Keller laughs at the thought of Beecher doing it alone, but Beecher says, "Ask Metzger." Keller asks if Beecher killed Metzger. Beecher muses that when he hit the girl with his car, he was full of remorse, because he didn't mean to do it, but killing Metzger was sweet. Beecher adds, "You know what else was sweet? Sticking that shank in your back." Keller is surprised. Beecher starts telling details about hiding in the storage room and watching Keller stack copying paper before stabbing him. Keller says, "Tell me it wasn't you." Beecher says that it wasn't, and then says that Keller would never think that he could do it. Keller says that Beecher didn't kill Metzger either, and Beecher says he didn't. Keller gets into his bunk, and then after a pause, he asks how Beecher knew he was stacking copying paper. Beecher says, "Shit. Maybe it was me." Heh. Beecher says he needs to pray now, that God will help him find a way to get revenge on Schillinger. That scene was so amazing because it made you think Beecher did stab Keller, and then you thought he didn't, and then you thought he did again, and at the end you have no idea. All in about two minutes, if that. Great acting, as usual, by Lee Tergesen and Chris Meloni.

The Muslims work in intake. Said asks for a new prisoner's number, and the new prisoner is Chip from Kate & Allie, all grown up. He gives his number very slowly and sarcastically and then walks away. Said comments that the new prisoner's last name is Schillinger.

"How I Got Into Prison" segment. Hill tells us that it's Prisoner #99S333, Andrew Schillinger. We see Andrew and some buddies dragging a black man behind their pick-up truck and cheering. Hill continues that Chip was convicted February 16, 1999 of murder in the second degree, possession of narcotics. His sentence is fifty years, and he's up for parole in twenty. Hill laughs.

Chip walks into Em City. Beecher sees him and laughs as well.
