Previously on The Mole: the players' bags got burned, so many of them lost cherished items including Katie's stuffed cow and Heather's Bible. Bob was executed, and we all went, "Who?"
Anderson explains how the game works, but doesn't get to say "saboteur" this season, which is so disappointing. I loved when he said "saboteur." As the credits end, Anderson voice-overs, "Watch for the hidden clue to the identity of The Mole." I hope the hidden clues are a little less lame this year than they were last year. Then again, it would be extremely difficult for them to be lamer.
In an interview, Heather says that she feels dirty because she has to wear the same clothes every day. Katie says that her friends will be shocked that they burned Meadow Muffin. That's her cow's name? That sounds like a euphemism for cow poop, if you ask me. Heather bitches that the whole thing is ridiculous. Bribs says that this is a "cruel game." If this were The Real World, the song "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak would start playing in the background. Katie says that she's playing for Meadow Muffin now.
The hills are alive with the sound of music. It's Day Four, and they are still in Switzerland. The contestants approach Anderson, who says that they are probably sick of their dirty clothes. Anderson adds that he is, because they all smell and attract flies wherever they go. Hee! Anderson explains that there will be new clothes waiting at the location -- which is St. Moritz -- but that they will play a game first. Anderson tells them to pick "two women with the best fashion sense, and one man who needs some fashion advice." Elavia volunteers, and someone suggests Dorothy. Everyone agrees with those picks. Bill checks out his own outfit and announces that he needs fashion advice badly, even though no one was suggesting him. So, for those of you looking for motivational clues, Elavia and Bill volunteered for this one, and Dorothy was nominated. Anderson needs the Fashion Consultants (Elavia, Bill, and Dorothy) to follow him. He asks Bill whether he needs fashion help, but Elavia doesn't think that Bill does.
“ Patrick goes behind the screen, and emerges wearing the green Speedo, socks, and sneakers. And honestly? He's got a pretty good body. ”
The Fashion Consultants approach a bunch of costumes hanging on clotheslines. Anderson explains that they will assign one costume to each contestant. That contestant will have to wear the costume on the 4:35 PM train to St. Moritz, and find a specific hotel there. For each player who wears the costume to the hotel, $2,000 will be added to the pot. That means the potential total is $20,000. The costume has to be worn the entire time, and if any one contestant misses the train, no money is earned. With two and a half hours until the train leaves, the Fashion Consultants check out the costumes. They try to find the most embarrassing costume, and pull out a green Speedo. Dorothy asks Anderson whether it's meant to be worn alone, with nothing underneath it. Anderson replies that it's a bathing suit, so it's fine. Anderson voice-overs that after assigning costumes, the Fashion Consultants were sequestered, and the other contestants were brought up in pairs.
Myra and Patrick form the first pair. Myra ducks behind a screen to put on her costume, and emerges wearing lederhosen, a midriff-baring top, and a hat with a feather. When she comes out, she yodels. Patrick goes behind the screen, and emerges wearing the green Speedo, socks, and sneakers. And honestly? He's got a pretty good body. Anderson just says, "Patrick. Wow." Patrick makes Myra hold his hand, and Myra jokingly gives him her hat to put over his genitals. Anderson holds his head and remarks to the camera, "The Swiss are not ready for this, at all." Myra and Patrick race up the path to find the train station.
The pair is Bribs and Ali. Anderson jokes that they are "the contestants on public humiliation." Ali dresses in a milkmaid-type costume, featuring a lot of red gingham. She says that she feels like "the St. Pauli's girl." Bribs comes out dressed in a pink silky negligee, with his polka-dotted boxers showing through.
There are now two hours until the train departs. Myra and Patrick wander the streets. Bribs and Ali try to get the locals to give directions, but some little boys on scooters just point and laugh. Bribs keeps making the "honk your horn, trucker" motion and going "Choo! Choo!" to try to bridge the language gap.
Heather and Darwin are the pair. Heather walks out wearing a skin-tight yellow dress with her black bra totally showing. Topping it off is a green apron with the word "fondue" on it. Anderson comments that the apron pulls the whole outfit together. Heather is very embarrassed about this outfit. Darwin walks out wearing a bunny costume, complete with floppy ears. Heather says that at least he's warm. They run off, and if there's anything funnier than a man running around in a bunny costume, I don't know what it is.
The Second Betrayal
The pair is Lisa and Rob. Lisa has to wear a green outfit with gigantic sequins that look like scales, topped with a red feather boa. Rob has to wear an outfit made from faux-cow hide. It's a skirt and a short vest, and a hat, and I think there are bells attached to it. In an interview, Rob describes it as "a woman's cow suit used during foreplay for a guy who had a cow fetish."
Bribs and Ali ask some old guy about the train station. Bribs is still using the "Choo! Choo!" technique even though it hasn't brought him much success thus far. Patrick and Myra walk up the road, and Patrick's butt cheeks are totally hanging out.
The final pair is Katie and Al. Anderson presents Al with his costume, which is a flesh-colored bustier and panties. In an interview, Al says that he was wondering what his daughters would think. Anderson comments, "Many men find the feel of women's undergarments pleasurable." Al shoots back, "And you know that how?" I'm surprised there isn't Mole fanfic about this exchange already. Katie emerges wearing the male version of Myra's outfit, with lederhosen and such. In an interview, Al says that his wife and kids know that he's a goof, so they will understand. Al emerges in the outfit, and starts doing ballet leaps around the lawn. In an interview, Al mentions that he has eighty guys who work for him in a warehouse who are all going to give him a hard time.
There is now one hour and forty-five minutes until the train departs. It looks like none of the pairs have found the train station yet. Some teenage girls laugh at Al and he pulls up his bustier, mentioning in an interview that he always saw women do it in the movies, so he figured he should, too. Al comments that he hopes he doesn't get aroused, because that would be really embarrassing. Al, all of us at home are hoping the same thing.
Anderson informs the Fashion Consultants that he can't tell them whether the other contestants wore the costumes. But, Anderson is going to give them a costume, and if all three of them wear it, they will double the money in the pot. The outfit is a diaper, bib, hat, and pacifier. The Fashion Consultants check out the outfit. Bill thinks that they need to have a drink first. Dorothy thinks that they should do it. Anderson suggests that one of them try the costume on before making a decision. In an interview, Dorothy explains that the bib was just a rectangular piece of cloth with some string to tie in the back. I've seen women wear less in public. That sounds like an apron top to me. Elavia tries on the outfit over her clothes. In an interview, Bill tells us that the diaper was transparent. Elavia and Bill make up their minds to skip it. Bill points out that they will have a lot of opportunities to make money. In an interview, Bill says that there are lines he won't cross, and he's a retired admiral, so he's still representing the navy and his family. The Fashion Consultants inform Anderson of their decision. In an interview, Elavia says that she didn't feel it was her right to tell Bill to wear a diaper in public. That's all fine, and they can justify it any way they want, but the fact remains that poor Patrick is jogging the streets in a Speedo.
“ Patrick and Myra arrive at the train station and check the schedule. Butt cheeks? Yes, we can still see them. I'm just glad they're giving us the rear view, if you know what I mean. ”
Patrick and Myra arrive at the train station and check the schedule. Butt cheeks? Yes, we can still see them. I'm just glad they're giving us the rear view, if you know what I mean. Some people walk by Patrick and burst out laughing. In an interview, Myra says that she likes Patrick and thinks he's honest, but that he definitely marches to "his own drumbeat." In an interview, Patrick says that he and Myra both want to form a coalition, and he trusts her somewhat, but he feels that they would both be fools to trust each other completely. So do they have an alliance or what?
Darwin and Heather walk past Anderson, who bites into a bagel and comments, "Hey, bunny." Patrick and Myra find Lisa and Rob, who are astonished at Patrick's outfit. Katie, Al, Darwin, and Heather are all at the train station, too. Heather says that she thought she had the worst outfit, and then she saw Patrick. As Patrick walks towards her, Heather turns and covers her face. Again, I'm glad that we only got the rear view there. Patrick gives Heather a big hug and everyone looks kind of uncomfortable.
There is one hour and three minutes until the train departs. They realize that the only ones missing are Ali and Bribs. Darwin thinks that they had to do another task, because there is no reason to be this lost. With forty-five minutes until departure, Myra wonders whether Ali and Bribs are really lost. Bill points out that everyone in the town speaks English. I guess they don't speak "Choo! Choo!" since that's the language Bribs was using. Cut to Bribs and Ali doing shots in a bar at 3:52 PM. The train leaves, may I remind you, at 4:25 PM.
In an interview, Heather explains that they were just waiting around for Bribs and Ali. Lisa asks the others why they aren't out there looking for Ali and Bribs. Meanwhile, Bribs and Ali are still doing shots in the bar. In an interview, Patrick explains that Lisa and Bill were sent out to find the missing contestants, with strict instructions to return on time. Lisa and Bill find Bribs and Ali, and don't appear to be rushing them back or anything. The others wait at the train station, with twenty-two minutes until departure. Darwin thinks that something definitely happened, because this was the easiest game yet. Meanwhile, the missing foursome does a toast and down beers in a bar. Patrick says that he's getting frustrated, and Darwin wonders whether they are sabotaging the game. Now there are only fifteen minutes left.
The missing foursome approaches the train station. Ali announces that she and Bribs were offered an exemption, but they got found, and yet they still won't be getting on the train, in order to earn their exemption. Hmm, that's odd. Usually they show us the contestants being offered exemptions. Katie runs inside where Rob, Al, Heather, and Patrick are waiting. She announces that Ali and Bribs aren't getting on the train in order to earn an exemption, so none of them will get any money. In an interview, Katie says that some people were really mad about it, and mentions Darwin in particular.
Darwin has removed his rabbit head, and asks Elavia to unzip his costume. She does, but suggests that Darwin keep his suit on until they get on the train. Darwin protests that there's no point, as Dorothy watches silently. A female voice from off-camera tells Darwin to keep his suit on, but doesn't explain why. I don't know who the speaker was, but it wasn't Dorothy, Elavia, or Lisa. I think Katie and Heather were still in the station, so I'm going to guess that it was either Ali or Myra.
Ali and Bribs tell the other contestants that they have an announcement. At the count of three, they yell out, "Psych!" Most of the contestants smile, but Patrick still looks pissed. Darwin has put his costume back on. In an interview, Rob says he was relieved that they were lying, but that the joke backfired and wasn't funny. Al angrily tells Bribs that they should have checked in at the train station first, just so that the others wouldn't worry. Bribs tries to deflect Al's concerns, but Al's not having it. In an interview, Al says that it "burned [his] apple." That's a new one. In an interview, Bribs says that they just wanted to go out and have fun in Switzerland. Al further explains to Bribs what they should have done to save the others some worry. In an interview, Bribs says that they originally went into the bar to use the restroom. Why isn't anyone yelling at Ali?
On the train, Darwin tells Bribs that he shouldn't take it upon himself to determine what's best for the group. Ali adds that she's always getting to the airport at the last minute, so it's not out of character for her to think she didn't need to get to the station any earlier. Darwin looks disgusted, or at least as disgusted as it is possible for one to look when one is wearing a bunny suit. Al complains some more, and Darwin says that they're there now, and that's what matters. Seriously. I would have been pissed, too, but I would have just told them not to do it again, and left it. Al thinks that Bribs is putting himself ahead of the group. In an interview, Bribs says that, looking back, he would have done the same thing. In an interview, Ali says that they thought it would be funny, but that maybe they should have thought about it more.
The Second Betrayal
“ Myra says she's just glad to have some more underwear, because she's 'tired of turning it inside out.' I think that was more information than I needed. ”
In an interview, Katie says that Bribs, Ali, Bill, and Lisa concocted a plan regarding the fake exemption, but that no one will admit to being the one who originally came up with the idea. In an interview, Heather also voices her suspicions about the plan, and adds that Lisa said that it was her idea. In an interview, Katie says that she didn't think it was funny.
A cheesy map shows us the train's path from Scoul to St. Moritz. The contestants hop off the train and enter the hotel. Anderson congratulates them for making it on time and wearing the costumes, so they earned $20,000. However, Anderson announces that since Darwin removed his rabbit head, he doesn't earn any money, meaning that the total is actually $18,000. Anderson brings up the option presented to the Fashion Consultants in order that they might also earn some money. Bill explains the offer, and says that they decided not to do it. In an interview, Rob says that he can understand the girls not wanting to do it, but that they all should have had to look ridiculous together. Darwin thinks that their excuse didn't hold water. Al suspects some influence by The Mole.
Anderson announces that they asked for more clothes, as a porter rolls out a trolley filled with bags. The bags that were allegedly burned last week. Which were not, in fact, burned at all. So everyone can calm down. Everyone celebrates getting his or her bag back. Anderson jokes that he did burn Katie's cow, and Katie gives him a dirty look. They open their bags. Katie hugs her cow; when Darwin asks to see it, she won't give it to him. Heather holds up her Bible and cheers. Al shows off the picture of his wife and kids, calling it his "most prized possession." Myra says she's just glad to have some more underwear, because she's "tired of turning it inside out." I think that was more information than I needed. Al says that he really misses his wife and kids. Bill and Bribs toast. In an interview, Bill says that he's happy to be rooming with Bribs, because Bribs understands that the game should be fun. Myra walks into her bathroom and says that there's a drinking fountain in there. I'm going to guess that what she saw was a bidet. Heh. I hope she doesn't try to drink out of it.
The Second Betrayal
The contestants walk into a casino where they find Anderson waiting, in a tux. Mmm, Anderson in a tux. Anderson announces that he has $20,000. This is sounding more and more like a dream that I had last week. Katie gasps at the sight of all that money, which was taken from their pot. They have the chance to double the money or possibly lose it all. The contestants have to select four people: a gambler, someone who is good with numbers, someone with a cool head, and a selfish brat. They all agree that Darwin is a gambler, and Lisa has a level head. Elavia asks Rob if he's good with numbers, but Rob says he's not good at "algebra or anything." Bill says that Rob can count cards (because he's a magician and all), and Rob agrees to do it. Katie volunteers to be the selfish brat. Anderson tells them that they'll need to dress up a little bit, and they follow Anderson off.
Rob, Katie, Darwin, and Lisa enter a room containing a blackjack table, and all of the other contestants. They are dressed to the nines. Anderson gives each player $5,000 to bet with. If they win a total of $40,000, they win that money for the pot. If they lose all their chips, the $20,000 is taken from the pot. Anderson hopes that they know how to play blackjack as the dealer tells them to place their bets. In an interview, Katie says that the minimum bet is $1000, which is more money than she's ever had in her hand.
For the first round, the players each bet $1000, and the dealer busts. They all win the first round. In the few hands, Rob ends up winning the most, and the winnings go up to $34,500. Katie decides to split her threes. I'm no blackjack pro, but I've never heard of splitting anything but aces and face cards. Katie asks advice from the others, and Darwin helps her out. Katie hits on fifteen twice, and busts both times. In an interview, Bill says that if Katie hadn't split, they would have been up to about $38,500. Anderson voice-overs that Katie's bad luck spreads to the rest of the table. They keep losing money. In an interview, Rob says that gambling is all about taking chances. Rob is the only player left with money, and he bets his remaining $4000 on one hand. In an interview, Al says that he never thought Rob would be The Mole, but now it's looking very possible. Rob ends up with sixteen, and holds. The dealer ends up with seventeen, so they lost all of their money. Al looks pissed. In an interview, Ali says that she thought it was suspicious that Rob bet all of his chips at once instead of spreading them out.
The Second Betrayal
At dinner, everyone has a few glasses of wine and laughs and laughs. Heather says that one person at the table is cringing right now, hoping that he or she is not giving anything away. The camera focuses on a few players looking around the table. Katie says that outside of the game, she and Dorothy will be friends, because they have connected. In an interview, Dorothy says that Katie is her favorite player.
Anderson voice-overs that while the players eat, a new game is being prepared in the kitchen. A chef makes a cake and places blueberries in the whipped cream topping each slice. At dinner, Anderson asks what happens if four of them team up and systematically knock everyone else out. In an interview, Darwin and the huge zit on his cheek announce that he and Lisa have a coalition to try to confuse the others about the identity of The Mole. In an interview, Lisa says that she has a number of coalitions. Al says that he doesn't have a coalition, because he doesn't trust anyone yet.
The cake is carried out to the table as Anderson voice-overs that one piece is missing a blueberry, which will be important later. For the most part, the players serve themselves and choose their own piece. Some of them pass their plates to Patrick, who is seated closest to the cake. No one takes the piece without a blueberry, so Anderson announces that someone has to eat the last piece of cake. Dorothy quickly volunteers, and Darwin passes it to her. Dorothy digs in.
Anderson voice-overs that the players returned to the hotel and were sequestered for the night without realizing that a new game had started. If the players leave their rooms, it's a violation of the rules. We see security-cam footage of various contestants scurrying around the hallways. Anderson walks down the hall and, in a cool shot, the footage turns from black-and-white security-cam-style to color when he knocks on a door. Anderson explains that since Dorothy took the blueberry-less piece, she and her roommate Lisa get a chance to earn an exemption from the execution. Anderson explains that Dorothy and Lisa have to try to lure two other players into their hotel room, using whatever means necessary. Dorothy and Lisa agree that they both want exemptions.
The Second Betrayal
Lisa and Dorothy look over the list indicating which players are in which room to decide whom they should call. Lisa agrees to call Darwin first. They plan out what to say if Patrick answers the phone. Lisa calls and pretends to be the front desk to throw Patrick off the scent. Darwin gets on the phone and Lisa tells him to pretend that she is the front desk, and that she has a really important message for him if he can come down there right now. She means that he should come to her room, but this is important later. Darwin agrees. Lisa thinks it was too easy. The security-cam shows Darwin leaving his room and wandering down the hall. Lisa listens by her door to see whether he's coming, but doesn't hear anything. Lisa decides to call Darwin again to see what's going on. Lisa calls back and pretends to be the front desk again, and Patrick says that Darwin went down to the front desk.
Dorothy calls Katie. Someone else answers the phone, and Dorothy gives her own name, earning a look from Lisa. Dorothy tells Katie to bring her personal pack over. Katie asks whether she's supposed to, and Dorothy says that she is. Katie agrees and walks right over. Lisa lets her in, and Anderson tells Katie to be quiet. The phone rings, and Lisa answers. Darwin asks why Lisa sent him down to the front desk. They argue over what Lisa told him to do. Darwin finally shows up in their room. Anderson asks them whether they are familiar with the rules, because the rules instruct them not to leave their rooms. Darwin and Katie both say that they were told it was part of the game. Katie says that Dorothy told her to do it. Anderson says, "And you trusted her?" Katie gets an "oh, shit" look on her face, and asks whether she just messed up. Anderson says that the group will be fined $2,000 because they broke the rules. Katie keeps saying, "That's crap," and claims that Anderson told her to come in. Anderson says that Lisa told her to come in, which is true. Katie figures out that Dorothy and Lisa were offered an exemption, and angrily leaves the room. Darwin asks Dorothy and Lisa whether they were offered an exemption.
Anderson goes into Katie's room, where Katie appears to be crying in her bed, and asks her to come back. Katie does. Darwin reminds Katie that this is what the game is all about. Anderson asks Dorothy and Lisa to explain. Dorothy gives them the back story. Anderson clarifies about the missing blueberry. Darwin points out that Dorothy jumped to volunteer for the cake, and took the exemption. Darwin thinks that's suspicious. In an interview, Darwin asks why Dorothy was so excited about the cake, unless she knew about the deal ahead of time.
The Second Betrayal
Katie asks Dorothy why she was selected even though Ali answered the phone. Darwin realizes that they got to pick whom to call. Katie points out that Dorothy knew that she was "the navest [sic] of the bunch." In an interview, Dorothy says that she's upset that Katie is mad. In an interview, Katie says that she's trustworthy (and I think she means "trusting"), and that Dorothy knew that Katie would get over it, but that Dorothy doesn't know that Katie holds grudges for a long time. Anderson points out that Katie and Darwin were misled and fell for it, so there will be a fine. Darwin and Katie angrily leave the room. Lisa and Dorothy discuss their regret at their choices. In an interview, Lisa says that she shouldn't have picked Darwin, because she doesn't want Dorothy to know that they have a coalition. In an interview, Darwin says that he assumes that he and Lisa still have a coalition, but that Lisa may be playing him.
Darwin explains what just happened to his roommate, Patrick. Darwin talks about how angry Katie was, and Patrick is happy that Katie stormed out of the room. Darwin doesn't think that he and Patrick should stress how quickly Dorothy jumped on the chance to eat the cake. Patrick asks why, and Darwin says that it might help others to figure out that Dorothy, their prime suspect, is The Mole, and they don't want others to know.
Katie explains what happened to her roommates, Elavia and Ali. Ali can't believe that there were two exemptions. Elavia says that she doesn't believe what Katie is saying. Katie grunts in frustration at all that has happened.
Day Six. The players learn about the fine and the exemption. Lisa and Dorothy don't really want to explain. Darwin says that "the people at fault" should do the explaining. Rob points out that Darwin is as much at fault because he broke the rules. In an interview, Rob says that they need to be literal about the rules. Heather thinks it's scary that there could be two exemptions. Anderson reminds them that tonight will feature a dinner, a quiz, and an execution. Darwin leans over and whispers something lengthy in Katie's ear. Katie nods.
At dinner, Anderson tells them that there is currently $56,000 in the pot. Lisa and Dorothy have exemptions. In an interview, Ali says she's annoyed that two people got exemptions, because it increases her chances of being executed. In an interview, Bribs says that he doesn't think he would have taken the exemption. Anderson explains about the quiz. In an interview, Elavia says that she's nervous about the quiz, and is going to try to take it as quickly as possible. In an interview, Heather says that she's stressed out and is having a hard time differentiating between real life and the game. In an interview, Rob says he is confident that he'll be sticking around after this round.
Time for the quiz. Elavia says that she discounted Heather at first, because she's sweet, but that's the perfect cover for The Mole. Katie says that Darwin could definitely be The Mole because of his role in the exemption as well as the blackjack. Not to mention the "taking off the rabbit costume" thing. Ali says it's fishy that Dorothy jumped at the cake. Darwin points out that Rob bet $4000 twice. Also, Bribs and Ali didn't go to the train station immediately.
The quizzes are completed, and it's time to find out who is executed this week. The players gather in a room so that Anderson can type their names into the computer. Green screen means that they stay. Red screen means that they are executed. Myra goes first. Green screen. Myra breathes out. Heather is . Green screen. She smiles at someone. Katie's name also gets a green screen. Al is , and he gets a green screen. Patrick is the fifth name typed in, and he gets a green screen. Ali goes and...red screen. Ali is the one executed this week.
The Sad Piano of We Still Don't Know These People At All So It's Not All That Sad plays as Patrick says that it could have been any of them. Everyone remembers Ali's zest for the game. I've never heard the word "zest" used that much. In an interview, Ali says that she got mad and didn't use her strategy for the game in the last quiz. Ali points out that it's difficult when there isn't anyone that you can trust, and that she's never been in that position before in her life. Montage of Ali moments from the first two episodes, which is understandably kind of short. Ali gets into the car and leaves.
