This show focuses way too much on Joe's urine. It seems like an episode doesn't go by without showing off his urine, talking about his urine or, now, subjecting someone to his urine. Detroit was once known as Motor City, but Joe's turning it into Urinetown.
Anyway, Joe and Frank arrest Damon and drag him into HQ for questioning. They also bring in Maya and what remains of Damon's crew. Most of them start trying to pin Billy Hobson's murder on poor, dead Michael. Only Steven is willing to stand by his departed friend, and fingers Damon as the killer. This isn't good enough for Joe and Frank, though, who need Damon to confess to the whole thing so they can also charge him with Brendan McCann's murder. When he doesn't give them what they want, they drag him into the restroom and shove his head into a toilet full of Joe's still-bloody urine. Repeatedly. Still, Damon won't confess. It's only when the detectives threaten to arrest Maya on a drug charge that Damon offers them something – not a confession, but dirt on Skelos. Joe beats the crap out of him before he can say a word, because he's protecting Skelos. He and McCann have been working for Skelos for some time, covering up his murders as suicides.
Dani tells Simon Boyd that she suspects Joe of murdering McCann. She's still blind to Frank's involvement, but Boyd isn't. He goes to his superiors and requests that both detectives be surveilled. They scoff because Frank has a spotless record. What could possibly turn him into a murderer? Boyd explains that there was a girl that Frank barely knew, but she was kind of pretty, and had a questionable Romanian accent, and her supposed death pushed Frank from "severely mopey" into "murderously mopey." He went looking for her after she faked her death, even though he knew looking for her would likely cause a bunch of problems for both of them. Subsequently, people started to notice that Frank had a really shitty attendance record at work. Michael got shot and later died from his wound. His friend Damon went to top gangster Skelos to ask for protection. Skelos had dirty dealings with lots of people around town, including dead detective Brendan McCann and Frank's current partner, Joe Geddes. A witness saw Frank and Joe dispose of McCann's body in the river, but the good detectives managed to convince him he saw something else entirely. Dani Khalil knew something was fishy, and kept following the clues. Frank decided to pin McCann's murder on Damon, who also killed an underling gangster named Billy Hobson.
Currently: the episode gets off to a sluggish start right off the bat! Frank parks in one of the interchangeably destitute streets of Detroit and walks over to where Sean lies passed out in the gutter. He nudges Sean a few times with his foot. "I guess my alarm didn't go off," Sean whines as he opens his bleary eyes to the gray light of day. Frank hands him an egg sandwich, which Sean tears into with gusto. Almost immediately, he's moaning and grabbing the side of his face. "You need a dentist," Frank says. "Nah, it's gonna fall out on its own," Sean says. Sean invites him to sit and stay a while, but Frank has places to mope, and people to mope about. "You might not see me for a few days," he says. "We got a break in the case." Sean wishes him well and then reminds him to bring hot sauce time. Frank shakes his head like he can't believe this guy. I can't believe we spent a whole scene on this.
At the House of Broken Dreams and Bad Decisions, Maya and Damon loll about in bed and take turns imagining what other kind of life they might make for themselves. "We live in Florida," Damon starts. "No crew, just us. We have jobs – 9-to-5 jobs. But we go to the beach every weekend." Maya thinks about this and adds, "Drink rum, body surf..." They picture themselves as law-abiding, tennis-loving citizens. "I hate us," Maya says. Because apparently being drug-dealing, hooker-pimping, dead-friend-abandoning cokeheads is so much more preferable.
They don't have time to fanfic themselves another life before Frank shows up on their doorstep with a warrant and a bunch of cops. Frank holds up a picture of Billy Hobson. "This guy look familiar?" he asks. "No, never seen him," Damon says. It's not long before one of the cops finds a baggie of coke, considering Maya and Damon left it right to the bed. They cuff Damon and walk both him and Maya to waiting cars.
