Previously, on Lost: Sawyer brings Juliet a sunflower and they kiss. Sawyer holds Juliet as she dies. Sawyer tells Jack "You did this." Kate, Hurley, Jack, Jin, and a dying Sayid get grabbed by the Templars. Lennon and Yoko bring Sayid to the Temple spring, which looks more like a cesspool. The Templars seem to drown Sayid. Sayid dies. Sayid comes back to life to ask what we've been asking for five and half years: "What happened?"

NOW; Island Reality: Lennon hustles through the maze that is the Temple floor plan and bursts into Yoko's lair -- the Unholy of Unholies -- to announce Sayid is alive. Meanwhile, by the side of the baptismal spring -- which I'll so be calling the "Murky Mikvah Mezzanine" -- Sayid is still coming out of it. He's a little light-headed from either his death or Hurley's bear hug, so Jack tells a completely confounded Miles to go get Sayid some water, because that's what every drowning victim most craves. When Sayid asks what happened to him, Jack tells him he died. Across the way, Kate wonders how that's possible. How is any of this possible, Kate? The time for that question is long past. At any rate, Sawyer scowls about Sayid. "Of course he's fine. He's an Iraqi torturer who shoots kids. He definitely deserves another go-around." Come on, James. Okay sure, you'd resent anyone other than Juliet being brought back, and since Sayid's attempt to murder wee Benjamin Linus blew up your ultimate long con over there in New Otherton, I get that you don't love him. And yeah, he tortured you in the past. But I thought you'd left the Iraqi bigotry behind you, years ago. Knock it off. Be better than that. (Plus? You left off assassin; I guess you probably don't know about that, though.) Anyhow, Sawyer asks Kate how many guards and guns are outside the Temple. He's thinking about running. Kate feels a twinge like you do when someone jacks your gimmick. Running is what Kate does.

L.A. Reality: There's a brief review of Kate escaping her Marshal and getting away from the airport by hijacking the cab Claire is already in. The cabbie (David H. Lawrence XVII, or possibly Billy Joel) stops, because his way is blocked by Arzt, who is trying to collect all his luggage he spilled into the street. In this reality, Arzt thinks he's Ratzo Rizzo. "Hey, I'm walkin' here. I'm walkin' here!" Kate scans the scene while they wait for Arzt to get out of the way. When she spots Jack, who is on the sidewalk talking on his cell phone, their gazes lock and Kate looks as if her two realities are trying to merge. Claire takes advantage of this moment between her (unknown?) big brother and her captor, and tries to jump out of the cab, but Kate pulls her back in and yells at her. Finally, at Kate's insistence, the cabbie drives off, dragging one of Arzt's bags with him. When they approach a set of lights, Kate instructs the cabbie to take a left, but instead, he ditches the cab, while Claire begs to be released. Kate crawls up to the front seat, which would be the ideal time for Claire to escape, were she not infected with persistent, pervasive imbecility in this reality. Anyhow, Kate takes the wheel, speeds away and demands Claire's purse. Once she has it, she screeches the cab to a stop and orders Claire out of the car. Mean old Kate won't even let Claire take her suitcase. The poor pregnant child cries alone on the sidewalk, as Kate drives away. We slide sideways to...

Island Realty; Temple: Jack and Jin help Sayid outside. Like us, Sayid wants to know who all these new people are and why they're frigging necessary at this late stage of the game. As Miles runs up with some water, Hurley explains: "They're Others, dude. They caught us. Again.... I don't know, I think they're trying to protect us." Miles butts in: "As you can see, Hugo here has assumed the leadership position, so...that's pretty great." Oh Miles, welcome back. Meanwhile, Jack is preoccupied with Sayid's gut wound, which is now all but closed. Amazed at his own recovery, Sayid thanks Jack for saving his life. Before Jack can say anything more Yoko swoops over, with Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band following in his wake. Last week, some savvy people correctly pointed out that Lennon's linguistic activities ought to be described as interpretation rather than translation. To this, I say: The show describes Lennon's work as translating -- I'm simply describing the show; But...but Wikipedia says I can; Maybe in the island reality, there is no distinction between interpreters and translators. Huh? Huh? Did you ever think of that? Maybe it's A Clue; You're right and I'm both wrong and sorry.

Lennon interprets for Yoko: "Mr. Jarrah, will you come with us, please?" Sayid's not so sure about that, and Jack won't let him go alone. Jack wants to know who these Templars are and why they're holding them. Lennon interprets: "Once we've spoken to Mr. Jarrah, we'll be happy to tell you everything you want to know." Jack talks directly to Yoko so he must have twigged to the fact that Yoko requires no English to Japanese translation interpretation services. He also knows that this we'll be so happy to reveal all bullshit is just that, and says so. Yoko utters some command and the Plastic Ono Band moves in to grab Jack. Before a full-scale brawl breaks out, the Losties and the Band are interrupted by two gun shots. It's Sawyer. How the hell did he get a gun? All that's clear is that he doesn't give a rat's ass about any of the other Losties. He wants out and he wants out now. As he leaves, he scowls at Kate. "Don't come after me." Rejection from a man on the run? Kate has never been so turned on in her life!

Random Templars hold Jack back while the Plastic Ono Band drags Sayid back into the Temple edifice. As soon as they're out of sight, another, more mouthy Templar (but more on him later), Aldo (Rob McElhenney), bursts on the scene, holding a pistol and barking at everyone to calm down. Lennon gets right in Jack's face. "Where did Ford go?" Jack's all, "Huh?" Does Jack even know Sawyer's real surname? Regardless, Lennon clarifies, "Your friend who just ran out of here." When Jack says he doesn't know, Lennon says, "You expect me to believe that?" Jack's smile is suicidal. "He told me he wanted to kill me. Do you believe that?" Kate saunters over and informs everyone she can bring Sawyer back because she's an expert runner widower-chaser meat-hound tracker. "Let me go. I will bring him back, and I can make him stay." Can you make him sit, heel and roll over too, Kate? Jack doesn't think Kate should go alone. Jin says he'll go with. Lennon tells them it's very important that Sawyer gets back to the Temple, safely. "What makes you think he's going to listen to you?" Kate says, "I can be very convincing when I want to be."

L.A. Reality: Kate finds an all too conveniently located chop shop run by Rack/Kralik (Jeff Kober). After she holds him at gunpoint and demands a tire hammer to remove her cuffs, he talks her into playing nice with him, so he can use his far more practical-for-the-job punch press. Kate offers him $200 and he looks at her like she tastes of strawberries. After she's free he asks her why she was wearing the bracelets -- and she tells the truth! "I'm wanted for murder." And call me crazy, but right here, right now, I'm calling it: in this reality, Kate is not guilty of the murder of which she's accused. Regardless, Rack Kralik doesn't sweat that, because Kate's just a pretty girl. He directs her to the bathroom so she can change her clothing. I wouldn't undress if I knew that man was in the same city, but Kate doesn't even shut the door. Instead, she takes off her jacket, opens the luggage and finds a Polaroid of Claire (with her cute pregnant belly) and all the adorable little baby things (like Pooh wash cloths) Claire packed. Kate seems to almost make a connection to the other reality in which she was one of Aaron's mommies, particularly when she finds the stuffed toy whale that Aaron had in "Something Nice Back Home." Doo doo doo doo. She runs her hands through her hair and stares in the mirror, looking for all the world like she's trying to remember something.

Island Reality; Temple: Aldo yips at Kate that she better not slow them down. Apparently he and another Templar -- Justin (Dayo Ade) are accompanying Kate and Jin on Sawyer-Quest. As Aldo Nova walks off, Kate grumbles that he'd better not slow her down. I can't decide if Jin is amused, annoyed, or both. Now it's time for Jack and Kate to have A Moment. So they do. Jack would go with her if Sawyer wouldn't kill him, but he would, so he's not. Kate will look after James while Jack looks after Sayid. There are meaningful glances, hopeful looks, tentative touches and a kiss that never happens, but feels like it should. Jack looks her in the eyes. "Be careful." She takes her leave, and Jack doesn't cry.

Temple; Unholy of Unholies: Yoko has Sayid in the back room on a torture table. He blows some sort of dust (ash?) across Sayid's torso, inserts electrical wires under his skin and hooks him up to a machine that everyone has compared to the contraption in The Princess Bride. Yoko turns the crank for a bit, then flips a switch, and the electricity shoots through Sayid, who had already offered to tell Yoko anything he wants to know. The only problem is, Yoko never asks him a question. It's hard to feel too badly for Sayid when he's getting a taste of his own medicine, but Naveen Andrews brings out my tender side. When the electric shocks stop, Sayid weeps. "Why are you doing this?" Yoko doesn't answer. Instead, he takes a fireplace poker, heats it in flame, and as Sayid tries to tell him that he doesn't have any secrets, Yoko brands Sayid's belly. Sayid screams and cries in pain. Yoko says something to Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band, and then walks away from Sayid. Lennon goes to Sayid's side, apologizes to him, and says the whole exercise was a test and he passed. After Sayid is taken from the room, Lennon turns to Yoko. "I just lied to him, didn't I?" Yoko says, "Yes." Commercial.

L.A. Reality: Kate, still driving the stolen cab, finds Claire -- in L.A., mind you -- with no problem at all. She parks the cab and talks to Claire like they're sisters who just had a tiff, rather than perp and victim. As I mentioned earlier, in this reality, Claire has persistent, pervasive imbecility -- so she spills all her pertinent deets to Kate. She's going to Langdon Street, in Brentwood, to meet the Baskums, who are going to adopt her baby, and who must have gotten their days mixed up, because they failed to meet her at the airport, but there's no way they've abandoned her, or anything -- no sir. Claire then takes a ride. From Kate. Who hijacked her cab, less than an hour ago. And has a gun. And was wearing handcuffs until just recently.

Island Reality; Jungle: While hunting a scwewy Sawyer, Aldo Nova tells Kate that the Templars want the Losties to stay at the Temple for their own protection. Kate says, "From what?" And Aldo actually gives her a meaningful answer. I mean, I can't guarantee its truthfulness, but here -- you decide: "Ever see a big pillar of black smoke? Makes a ticka-ticka sound? Looks pissed off?" Kate stops dead in her tracks. "Yes." Aldo says "From that." Since he's being relatively forthcoming for any brand of Other, Jin asks if he knows anything about the Ajira flight, so Aldo reverts to type. "Is this a press conference?" Justin pipes up: "I think he means the one that landed..." Aldo cuts him off. Shut up, Aldo. If you're no longer in the mood to talk, we'd love to hear what Justin has to say. , Kate points out that they're about to follow a dummy trail. This seems to piss off Aldo, so he asks Kate what her strategy is for bringing back her "boyfriend" -- who, by the way, shot a guy on his way out of the Temple. "If he tries that on me, I'm going to blow his head off." Just then, Justin stops Kate from triggering a trap. Jin notes it looks like one of Rousseau's as they spot the large net full of rocks hanging from a tree, above. Justin pooh-poohs that. "The French woman? She's been dead for years. This couldn't be one of her..." Aldo shuts him up again. I hope Kate kills Aldo, soon. Right now though, she's just (forcefully) asking him what Justin was going to say. Aldo changes the subject. "You don't even remember me, do you? You don't recognize me? Well, maybe this will jog your memory. Three years ago, you staged yourself a little prison break, and you did it by knocking the guard out with the butt of your rifle. That? Would be me." This time, Kate knocks him out with only the help of her canteen. And when Justin dives for her, she uses that same canteen to trigger the Rousseauian-rock booby trap which sends Justin flying. Kate grabs their guns and hands one to Jin who wants to know what she's doing. Kate says, "Escaping." Duh.

Island Reality; Temple: The Plastic Ono Band brings a suffering Sayid back to the Murky Mikvah Mezzanine. Hurley, Miles and Jack check on Sayid as he tells his friends that Lennon and Yoko tortured him, even though they didn't ask him any questions. Jack marches off to the Unholy of Unholies to have a Come-to-Jesus meeting with Yoko. Lennon tries to make small talk, but Jack wants to know what they did to Sayid. Lennon denies they did anything to him and says Sayid is sick. Jack wants to know with what. Lennon interprets -- or tries to. The closest English he can find to whatever it is Yoko just said is "infected." I'm assuming they're worried about the same kind of infection that got Danielle Rousseau's crew, years ago -- and yet, there's this idea I have that just won't crystalize.

Anyhow, Jack points out that Sayid doesn't even have a fever. When Yoko chuckles, Jack walks up to him. "Did I say something funny?" What are the odds, Jack, honestly? Lennon agrees. "I doubt it. [Yoko] doesn't really have a sense of humor." Yoko finishes his mortar and pestle work, and wraps a little green capsule in a piece of white paper and presents it to Jack. Lennon interprets: Jack must give the pill to Sayid. Jack suggests they do their own dirty work. Lennon says, "It only works if he takes it willingly and he won't take it willingly from us." Ya think? Jack suggests they should have tried before they tortured Sayid. Lennon lies again that they didn't torture Sayid. "We were diagnosing him." So like mammography, huh? Doesn't matter. Jack won't give anything to Sayid unless/until he knows what it is. Yoko asks Jack how his friend got shot in the first place. Jack explains Sayid was helping him. Yoko says, "So, it was your fault." Jack's face crumples a little, but he still doesn't cry. "Yes." Oh come on, Jack. Don't break your tear-free streak, now. Besides, you already admitted your feelings of guilt to these tools in last week's episode. When the tears come, ('cause honey, we know they will) let it be over something new (and yes, that rules out Kate, several times). Yoko kneads Jack's guilt a little more -- asking/pointing out that others have been hurt or killed while helping him. Jack nods and squints, but the camera cuts away before I can see if tears are forming. Yoko suggests his little green pill is Jack's chance at redemption. "It's medicine and your friend needs it." Jack asks what happens if Sayid doesn't get it. Yoko says, "The infection will spread."

Murky Mikvah Mezzanine: While Miles asks Sayid about such trivialities as the nature of death from the other side, Hurley gets down to brass tacks. "You're not a zombie, right?" Sayid says he's not, and also tells Miles that all he can remember is being shot. Just then, Jack comes back with the little green pill and asks Miles and Hurley if they'll allow him a moment alone with Sayid. Hurley rises. "Yeah, see, private talks kinda freak me out, because they usually lead to me having to do something I don't quite understand." Jack laughs. "I'm right there with ya." Wait, did he just chuckle and wisecrack? My world is askew. Miles leads Hurley off ("We'll be in the food court, if you need us..." heh) so Jack can push the little green pill on Sayid. Jack takes a swig from his canteen and offers it to Sayid who has finally had enough water. The guys compare stories: diagnosis and infection versus a passed test. Jack shows Sayid the pill and says the Templars claim it's medicine, but he just doesn't know if that's true. He does make it clear that it was the Templars, not Jack, who saved Sayid's life. Sayid says, "I don't care who fixed me. I only care about who I trust, so if you want to me to take that pill, Jack, I'll do it." Jack stares at the pill, not sure what to do when people actually trust him. Usually, he's raging against the machine and everyone he thinks he is protecting hates and resents him (and often, not without reason). We cut to...

Jungle: Kate admits to Jin that she's not bringing Sawyer back; she's joining him. Jin just wants to know where Ajira 316 landed, so he can look for Sun. Kate doesn't know, and asks him if he thinks the Others will tell him anything or if they care about him, Sun, or any of the Losties. Since she's being so cranky, Jin takes one for the fans. "Who do you care about, Kate?" She gives him a dirty look and wishes him luck. As she walks off, Jin asks, "Once you catch up with Sawyer, then what?" Kate sighs. "I guess we'll figure that out, together." Is it just me, or does Jin look a little offended on Juliet's behalf?

L.A. Reality: Claire makes small talk with her newly minted BFF, Kate. Kate says she got her cuffs cut off, and Claire dives into deepest denial about the adoptive parents' failure to meet her at the airport. Soon though, they're at the Baskum's house, where Claire's persistent, pervasive imbecility becomes more persistent and pervasive than ever. She wants Kate to walk her to the door. Nils Bejerot's ghost points and laughs. Kate agrees, because stopping and helping people while she's on the run from the law is also what Kate does. At the door, Mrs. Baskum explains that nobody retrieved Claire from the airport, because Mr. Baskum recently dumped her and she's incapable of making a phone call, never mind thinking for herself. Kate hollers at Baskum for letting Claire fly all the way from Australia for nothing, but it's all to no avail. This woman is in no shape to take the baby, or breathe in and out without detailed instructions. Fetal Aaron is not thrilled with any of his once, future or potential mothers, so he tries to make a break for it. Yeah. Poor Claire goes into labor, right on the Baskum's stoop. "It's coming!"

Island Reality; New Otherton: With her gun drawn, Kate enters Sawyer and Juliet's former love shack. She watches as he rips up the bedroom floorboards, pulls out a shoe box and cries over its contents. Kate feels guilty for spying and turns away. That's when Sawyer realizes he's not alone. At first, he thinks Kate's an intruder. Well, a dangerous intruder. Well, a dangerous intruder he never slept with. He draws his weapon, barks out a warning, enters the hallway, and realizes it's just Freckles. "What the hell are you doing here?" Kate says, "I was worried about you," and turns to face him, but Sawyer just lowers his weapon and walks past her and straight out the door, leaving her standing there, while we cut to commercial.

Oh, it's a Valentine's Day related commercial. Which reminds me...while this won't be published until after that date, you must check out Lee Bretschneider's Lost-themed Valentines. L.A. Reality; Angel of Mercy Hospital: Kate and Claire drive up to the front of the emergency clinic. A nurse immediately appears with a wheelchair. Claire tells her she's been in labor for about 20 minutes. Kate leaves the cab curbside and accompanies Claire inside, watching the passing police cruiser out of the corner of her eye. Inside the OB Triage Unit, Claire freaks out at everything -- even just having her blood pressure taken. The nurse stalls when Claire asks when she'll see a doctor, so Kate puts on her super-tracker hat and finds and brings one in. It's Ethan (Rom) Goodspeed! He tries to comfort Claire, explaining that the baby has decided to come a little early (36 weeks -- which is doable; she's 3 cms dilated and 80% effaced). He'll try to stop the labor if Claire isn't ready, but since that involves a lot of drugs, Ethan says he doesn't want to stick needles in Claire, unnecessarily. HA! Good one, Show.

Claire looks from her BFF Kate to Dr. Goodspeed, and decides she's not ready. Just then, the fetal monitor alarm sounds. Claire starts to panic again. "What's happening to my baby? Is my baby okay? Is Aaron okay?" At the mention of his name, Kate's eyes flicker. Ethan calms Claire and begins an ultrasound which shows the baby is perfectly fine with a heart rate of 140 bpm. He just slipped out of position, which is what set off the alarm. Ethan says the boy just likes to move around. "I have a feeling Aaron is going to be a handful." You don't know the half of it, you still-creepy bastard, ya. He also tells Claire he'll now see about stalling her labor and that she's done great. Kate watches Claire and when their eyes meet, they smile and continue to hold hands. I am not making that up.

Island Reality; New Otherton: Kate finds Sawyer sitting on the dock and sits beside him. He is thrilled, as you might imagine. Kate just starts talking. She reveals she really came back to find Claire. She'd hoped to bring Claire back to Aaron, so that all of this wouldn't be for nothing. Sawyer just sighs. Kate adds, "I'm sorry. I never should have followed you." Sawyer, also taking one for the fans, says, "Which time?" She changes tacts and asks him if the house she found him in was the house he shared with Juliet. He confirms that. Kate says, "I'm sorry." When Sawyer points out she's repeating herself, she clarifies. She is sorry for Juliet's death -- feels responsible for it, because she got Sawyer and Juliet to get off the sub.

Sawyer tells Kate it's not her fault Juliet's dead. It's his. "She was sitting right there, right where you are now, trying to leave this place, and I convinced her to stay. I made her stay on this island because I didn't want to be alone. You understand that, right? But uh... I think some of us are meant to be alone." He looks down at the engagement ring he's holding. "I was going to ask her to marry me." The tears flow from his eyes. They flow from mine too, but only because I'm laughing so hard. He had that ring under floor boards over which he had placed a bureau. It took a crowbar to get the boards loose. He can keep telling himself he was going to ask Juliet to marry him, but I think the truth is probably more that he wanted to ask her to marry him, and then panicked and buried the ring, hoping that someday he'd be able to man up. I'm probably being too harsh, but has the man never heard of a sock drawer? At any rate, he rises, groans and plays with the ring for a moment before tossing it in the water. When he's done, he tells Kate she can probably make it back to the Temple by nightfall. No Southern hospitality for you, Kate. After Sawyer walks off, Kate cries and cries -- for Sawyer, for Juliet, for Aaron, for Claire and probably mostly for herself.

Temple; Unholy of Unholies: Jack comes back for more one-on-one time with Yoko, who is sitting at his desk, spinning a baseball. Jack asks "What's that?" Yoko says, "It's baseball." Am I hallucinating? Whatever. They chuckle and Jack takes a seat and says, "You speak pretty good English for someone who needs a translator." Hey, I don't write his lines. Yoko says they both know he doesn't need a translator. He uses one because, "I have to remain separate from the people I'm in charge of. It makes it easier when they don't like the decisions I make for them." I read something interesting -- on the boards here, probably. It was a few days ago, so I'm undoubtedly adulterating it and possibly expanding upon it. With that disclaimer, I'll note that it's interesting to me that when Yoko is speaking to Hurley (whose family speaks Spanish), Yoko claims he doesn't like the way English tastes on his tongue. Now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure the original poster connected taste-to-eating-to-Hurley. I like my language connection, better. Anyhow, to Jack -- Yoko speaks of leadership. With Sayid, he talks of passing tests and uses torture. With Jack, he twirls a baseball and talks of diagnoses and medicine.

Jack asks, "Who are you?" Yoko says, "My name is Dogen." Bah. Jack wonders if he was born on Craphole. Yoko says he was brought there, "Like everyone else." Jack asks what "brought here" means. Yoko says, "You know exactly what I mean." He then asks Jack why he didn't give Sayid the pill. Jack has risen now; his back is to his captor-protector-tormentor: "Because I don't know what's in it." Yoko starts to blow smoke up Jack's ass about it eliminating the infection. Jack gets that, "But what's in it?" Yoko says he can't explain. There's not enough time. "He'll die." Jack points out that Sayid already died. Dogen says Jack will just have to trust him. Jack replies, "I don't trust myself. How am I supposed to trust you?" Whether it's meant to be, or not, to me, that's quite a redemptive moment for Jack, in my eyes. I'm proud of him and I can like him again, without being embarrassed about it. But wait, it gets better. Jack holds up the pill in front of him and tells Dogen, "Let's see where trust gets us." Then he licks his lips and swallows that mother down, dry. That's the little boy who got beat up sticking up for a friend -- before his father filled his head with defeatist garbage. That's the man who saved countless lives in the immediate aftermath of the crash. That's the Jack he ought to be. Dogen feels differently, though. He charges at Jack and hits him right in the gut. He then hits him on the back as well, knees him, and Heimlichs him until Jack coughs up the pill. Dogen retrieves it as Jack gasps for breath and asks, "Now...are you gonna tell me...what's in it?" Dogen sighs. "Poison." Okay, maybe he shouldn't be quite that headstrong, but dammit, it was good to see him with some stones, again. Commercial.

L.A. Reality; Angel of Mercy; OB Triage Unit: Claire is studying the print out of Aaron's ultrasound, and there's been some controversy about the 10-22-2004 date on the upper right hand corner. Some people think this is the date Claire had the ultrasound taken (i.e. "today's" date in this reality). I reviewed the ultrasound pics for my second and third child, and the dates on them are the dates on which they were taken. Of course I can't find the print of the oldest child's ultrasounds, which is too bad, because I swear they had his estimated delivery date on them. My point, and I have one, is: I'm with the people who think the date on Aaron's prints is his estimated due date. I think this mostly because the whole motley crew just got off an Oceanic flight from Australia to L.A., so until we hear otherwise, I'm assuming the date on these ultrasounds is Claire's estimated delivery date (about 4 weeks from now), and that "today" in the L.A. Reality is September 22, 2004. Now, back to the story...

Claire is studying the print out of Aaron's ultrasound when Detective Rasmussen (female; played by Tracy Burgard) and Officer Westley (male; unidentified) knock and enter her room. Rasmussen asks Claire if a Miss Hart is there. "Joan Hart? She signed in with you?" Kate listens from another room, like she's Jay Leno, as Claire tells Rasmussen that "Hart" was her driver, who helped her into the hospital. Rasmussen wonders if Claire knows where "Hart" was going . Claire doesn't, so Rasmussen tells her it's nothing to worry about, and then she and Westley leave. Eagle-eyed viewers have pointed out that Melissa Joan Hart, starred in Sabrina the Teenage Witch, on which Sabrina's aunt, Zelda, was played by Beth Broderick, who also plays Diane Janssen, i.e. Kate Austen's mother. For now, that's more nifty fun fact than important information, but you deserve fun facts, gentle readers. Once the police depart, Kate reveals herself to Claire and thanks her for having her back. Claire thanks Kate -- for um...kidnapping her and stealing her luggage and bag, and returning it, and giving her a ride, and walking her to the Baskum's door, and driving her to the hospital, and holding her hand and being her BFF forever -- or something. Who knows? Claire has gone clear out of her gourd what with the travel, hormones, labor, hijacking, guns, and dual realities. There's no explaining this shite. There's only watching with one's mouth ajar, and accepting that just because one is allegedly a "recapper" doesn't mean one will have any frigging answers to anything. *Serenity now*

Claire asks Kate why she's trying to outrun the long arm of the law. Kate says, "Would you believe me if I said I was innocent." Yeah, yeah I would. I mean, I'm beating myself up even as I say this, but yes, Kate. I would. Claire says the same -- except she doesn't seem to have the same urge for self-harm. Kate says she should go, so persistently, pervasively imbecilic Claire tells Kate to take her credit card. "There's not much of a limit on it, but it's something." Kate tells her she doesn't have to do this. Claire says, "You didn't have to do what you did, either." And then Kate takes the card, because taking is what Kate does. She tells Claire that Aaron is a great name. When Claire says, "I don't know why I said it -- it's like...I don't know...I knew it, or something," Kate tells her, "I think you should keep him." Claire doesn't know what to say to that, so she wishes Kate luck. Kate returns the sentiment, and they part -- the closest of friends.

Now, last week, the Templars told the Losties that they had to save Sayid, or they'd be in big trouble. This week, the Templars are telling Jack that a persistent darkness grows in Sayid and it will reach his heart and spread (the implication is that it will spread to everyone else) if it isn't stopped (i.e. if Sayid isn't killed). BUT...who says the Templars are all knowing? I can't help but think back to last season, when Sayid shot wee Benjamin Linus. Sawyer and Kate brought him to the Others. Richard said they could save wee Ben, but only at the price of his innocence. Based on what we know so far, it would seem they dipped wee Ben in the spring-fed pool. Based on what we know so far -- the pool was probably running clear at that time. But, when Sayid is brought in, the pool is brown and murky. It doesn't heal Sayid immediately, but eventually, he springs back to life. The Templars test him and assume that he's got this darkness growing in him. Even many of us think he's animated by Smokey. But what if he doesn't; what if he isn't? What if he actually has a negativity growing in him -- a photo negativity? What if Sayid -- whose soul was so tainted with sin that he fretted about his eternal destination with his final breath -- what if Sayid's sin was taken away by the dirty pool, when Ben's innocence was taken away by the clean pool? Just food for thought. I'm not ready to commit to it, yet.

And then there's Claire. Now, back in season 4, episode 9, "The Shape of Things to Come" -- Claire was in a Dharmaville house that got all blowed up and stuff. I thought for sure she was dead, and then Sawyer dragged her out of the wreckage, none too worse for the wear, unless you're the type to get concerned over delusions and headaches. (Okay, I do.) And then, in "Something Nice Back Home" Miles, the resident ghost whisperer, starts paying particular attention to Claire, and Claire can't frigging wait to get away from the dead bodies. Later, in that same episode, Claire decides to leave her baby, and go on a walk about with an apparition who is the spitting image of her dead father. She hasn't been seen since, except in the spooky-ass cabin that may or may not have been Jacob's at one point, and in Kate's dreams or 2007 reality -- specifically in Aaron's bedroom. So, did Claire die long ago and far away when her New Otherton house went all 'splodey? If so, how did she/her ghost carry Aaron around? How did Sawyer rescue her? Was she animated by Smokey -- or by something else? Did she leave with the ghost of her father, or something that resembled him? And why is she now appearing to us as Rousseau, the wave? Was Rousseau sick, or do random band of Others diagnose anyone with "the sickness" if/when that anyone doesn't follow the same whatever it is that said random band of Others reveres? I mean, Ben took Alex from Rousseau, but we never saw Rousseau act sick. She killed her crew, and her baby-daddy, but that's because they were acting batshit insane (and were probably going to kill her). And here's Claire, acting just like Rousseau. And here's the Templars, telling Jack that Sayid is sick just like his (Jack's) sister was -- but what do these sickos consider sick? Again, this is just food for thought. I can't yet get where I want to go, but these are the thoughts I cannot leave behind.
