Where's George Michael When We Need Him?

This episode's all about faith. Unfortunately, that does not mean that Eliza Dushku shows up to beat the crap out of Grace. Grace is intolerant of religion, Bobby wants some religion, and Jack is creeped out by religion (as embodied by Ed Begley Jr.). Marcus gets his own subplot within the first four episodes, leaving Pete in the dust.

1-3 Recap The Kindness of Strangers
The Kindness of Strangers - Grace forces Bobby into his school's gifted and talented program. First he digs it, because the nerds like him, and then he hates it, because the nerds he hooks up with are all violent and force him to be mean to the school's Ethnically Other Janitor. So, instead of continuing to enjoy his classes and finding other nerd friends, he drops out. Jack kisses Dee Vine; Courtney suspects, and she's peeved. Grace something something something at the University and Jessica doesn't care and didn't pay attention.

1-2 Recap Better Days
Better Days - Grace continues to be, alternately, a terrifying pain in the ass and an ineffectual stoner mom. Jack continues to be a stoic kid, old before his time, who can't talk Courtney into kissing him even though he's totally cute. For her part, Courtney continues to stomp furiously out of almost every scene in which she finds herself. We learn that Future Bobby was a Republican (because, it is implied, his mother was not, and goodness knows Grace would turn anyone off to anything) until the Republicans were, like, really totally mean to him, and then he decided to be an Independent and then he totally won the whole election because apparently that was all it took.

1-1 Recap Pilot
Pilot - Framed as a 2049 documentary about the 51st president of the United States, this episode kicks off the story of Bobby, a boy who will eventually become President, and his hot, hot, popular brother Jack who, we learn, ends up dead. We don't know a lot about what happens in the McCallister administration yet, but we do know a few things about the brothers' lives in 2004. Namely: their mother, Grace, is on the crazy, controlling side; their dad was a busboy who ran out on Grace, and she's got some real issues about that; both boys have the hots for the lippy, sanctimonious daughter of their mother's boss; said boss wants to date Grace even though she called him a whore; and did we mention that Jack is really hot?
