Well, he blew up, all right, but then he regenerated and saved Nathan before he could plummet to his death. And D.L. actually survived his shooting. And even though we didn't even know Maya and Alejandro four months ago, we check in on them too at Alejandro's wedding. Before they can cut the cake, however, Maya has one of her black-eyed hissy fits and everyone dies. After Peter delivers Nathan to the hospital, Tobby and Elle show up and grab Peter and take him back to The Company.
Tobby explains that The Company is on the track to a cure while Elle practically makes out with Peter on the sofa. Back at the hospital, Nathan learns that he's been burned over most of the left side of his body. He really is rather crispy. Over in D.L.'s wing of the hospital, Tobby shows up and tries to recruit Niki into The Company by offering her a chance to cure herself of her split personalities. Adam and Peter strike up a friendship through the wall that divides their rooms.
Nathan tells his wife the truth about his ability and Peter's explosion, but Mama Petrelli covers it all up by suggesting that Nathan has delusions of grandeur and that this sickness was passed down by his father. Of course Nathan's wife believes her. Niki goes off her Company-supplied meds, and this makes another personality come forward to trap Niki in her mirrored prison again. Peter tries to ask for permission to leave the facility, but Tobby turns him down. Adam tells Peter that they need to break out of there so that Adam can heal Nathan with his blood.
Peter also goes off his meds, but his results are much more positive. He phases through the wall and he and Adam easily walk out of their prison. Maya is busy being a nun when Alejandro brings a cop to take her into custody. Of course she has another hissy fit and starts the black stuff flowing, but Alejandro calms her down and they manage to escape. Niki's new alter ego takes her to L.A. D.L. goes to find her and she's with some grease-ball coke fiend. Niki wakes up after D.L. shows her a family portrait. They go to leave, but the coke fiend decides that shooting D.L. in cold blood is a better idea.
Peter and Adam visit Nathan's bedside, and the second Adam's blood is in Nathan's system, he starts to heal. On their way out of the hospital, Elle and the Haitian Sensation appear and all hell breaks loose. Elle shoots her blue electricity at them both and Adam goes down while Peter runs off. The Haitian Sensation gives chase and Peter takes his shirt off (thankfully!) and runs through a shipyard. This, of course, explains how Peter wound up in a container at the end of the first episode. Instead of capturing Peter and taking him back to The Company, the Haitian Sensation just locks up the inside of the container, gives him his "S" symbol necklace, and erases his memories, saying that it's high time Peter got himself a new life.
We catch up to today and Peter remembers everything. "Good then," says Adam, "shall we save the world?" Oh hell YEAH. Want more? The full recap starts right below!
Previously on Heroes: West discovered the truth about Claire's father; Claire's father had a spat with Mohinder because Mohinder shows up in a painting with a smoking gun that Bennet thinks is going to be aimed at him; Mohinder and Niki went up against Papa Parkman, but then Niki injected herself with the virus, only to discover that Mohinder's blood was no longer a cure; Peter and Caitlin discovered just how little of a cure there is in the future when they got captured by some HAZMAT dudes and quarantined; Peter escaped via time travel and met Kensei in the Hall of Lost Hero Crap, only to learn that Kensei is none other than Adam Monroe. And hot. He is Adam Monroe and he is hot. In fact, they're both hot. It's the Hall of Hot Heroes and their Lost Crap.
The voiceover is back, but thankfully it's brief. It basically just says that it's man's ability to remember that sets us apart from the cockroaches and rats. Peter runs around the Hall of Hot Heroes trying to force his way back to the future. Moyawnder says some more shit about celebrating triumphs and being warned about mistakes, but I've long since stopped listening to the voiceover, so I don't even care if it's important anymore.
Peter finds the note from Adam again and reads it over, commenting that he doesn't know any Adam. Of course that's when Adam himself appears, allowing Peter to shoot electricity at his hand, followed closely by a miracle of self-healing. Adam introduces himself, but clearly Peter doesn't remember him. Adam realizes that this means Peter's been in contact with the Haitian at some point. And here I was thinking Peter's amnesia was caused by the explosion in the sky. I thought that was a totally cheesy plotline, by the way, and now I feel chagrined and kind of...stupid. Of COURSE Peter came in contact with the Haitian! God!
Adam has a solution to Peter's memory loss: self-healing. Since Peter can do what Adam can do, he can heal his own mind. He instructs Peter to think about what matters to him most. Peter pulls out the photo of him and Nathan. "His name is Nathan," says Adam. Peter repeats the name, and suddenly, his memories of Nathan come flooding through fast and furious until...
...it's four months ago and we're back at Kirby Plaza as Nathan tries to tell his poor brother that they have to save the world together. Nathan steps forward and embraces Peter, and they shoot up into the sky as I try NOT to cry like I did the last time. As they skyrocket into the atmosphere, Peter tries to tell Nathan to let him go. "You go, I go!" yells Nathan as the flesh peels off his face. Peter tries to explain that it's taking all his powers not to explode, so he can't fly away like Nathan can. I take this to mean that if Peter explodes, he needs to be able to switch over and regenerate. He can't be concentrating on trying to fly, too. I guess his thinking is that at least Nathan can fly out of range, and Peter can just explode and regenerate in peace. Why yes, I am fanwanking, thank you for asking!
