Previously on Felicity: Ruby tells Knoll that she's keeping the baby and that she wants to make it work with him; Greg asks Felicity if she is dating Ben; Ben tells Felicity that Greg is an arrogant loser.
At Dean & Deluca, Javier asks Felicity, who is stocking shelves, "What do you think about liposuction? My friend Shaka got all the fat sucked out of her knees. You know, a few months ago, and now she looks fantastic." Felicity tells him that he doesn't need liposuction. Javier notes who is coming through the door and sing-songs, "You'll never believe who's here." Felicity sees the woman and asks Javier who it is. He tells her, "She was in yesterday, talking to Benjamin, I think she has a little 'crunch' on him." Javier, most of the world has a big "crunch" on you. Felicity is surprised and says, "Really?" Ben appears, with a bunch of jars in his hands and asks Javier if he has brought enough. Javier replies, "Yes, perfect as usual. Your girlfriend's here." Ben claims that the woman, Pam, is in one of his classes and that he barely knows her. Javier makes skeptical noise that is either "ooh la la" or "oh, yeah, yeah." Felicity remarks that Pam keeps looking over at Ben, which he denies. All three glance at Pam and she waves at Ben and he goes over to talk to her. As Felicity and Javier watch Ben and Pam, Felicity's father arrives. Dr. Porter and Felicity greet each other with a hug. Javier asks him what he thinks about liposuction. Dr. Porter tells him that plastic surgery isn't his specialty. Javier rubs his abdomen and says, "Okay. I'm thinking maybe a little over here." Then, while fondling his jowls he says, "Okay, get rid of this, if you know what I mean? Hold that thought. Norma's back-talking the customers again." At the counter, we see Norma's back and she appears to be arguing with an older male customer. Javier arrives and says to the customer, "Guess what? It's free! Okay, thank you." He leads Norma away from the counter.
Felicity and her father sit at a table to talk while Ben still chats with Pam. Dr Porter is stopping by for a cup of coffee and because he hasn't seen Felicity for a while. He asks her how school is and she gives him a noncommittal "It's good. School's good." Dr. Porter invites her to go out for dinner with him, but Felicity, who is distracted by Ben and Pam's conversation, declines because she's going to be at the Health Centre later. She suggests that they get together the following week because her "schedule has been so crazy." Dr. Porter tries to play it off with, "No big deal. Things are crazy for me, too. But I'd love to see you, so when you get a chance, give me a call." Felicity notices Pam handing Ben her phone number. Ben stops by the table to say hi to Felicity's dad. Felicity reintroduces Ben and they shake hands and exchange pleasantries. Felicity makes a comment to Ben about seeing that Pam gave him her number. Javier calls, "Benjahmeen, I need you." Ben leaves and Dr. Porter asks if he and Felicity are still together. Felicity emphatically replies, "No. No. No. No." Felicity's dad thinks that it is good that Felicity and Ben are still friends. Javier returns and says, "So, back to the lipo. Samuel, that's my guy, has started calling me: Javier has no hair, have another chocolate éclair. And it stings." Javier looks like he is going to cry. Felicity flashes a look at her father then she puts her hand over her mouth to stop from laughing out loud. Ian Gomez must be a hoot to work with.
Felicity arrives at the Health Centre to discover that it is full of people. An unhappy Greg hangs up the phone. Felicity says, "It's crazy in here today, huh?" Greg responds, "Ah, another one of our doctors dropped out of the rotation so now we're stuck with just one. I'm making phone calls trying to find a doctor who can sub for a few days until we can get another regular." Felicity wonders if it happens a lot. Greg says, "No, we get a lot of turnover, but it usually doesn't happen all at once. It's just bad timing. The review's in a couple of days. If we don't pass they're going to shut us down." Felicity asks what she could do to help and Greg says, "It'd be great if you had your medical license." Meghan walks up to the counter and says hi. Felicity asks what she is doing there. Meghan claims that her throat is sore but Felicity comments that Meghan seemed fine in the morning. Rather annoyedly, Meghan tells Felicity that she is not fine now. Meghan asks Greg to check and see if she has swollen glands. Oh, is that what the kids are calling it these days? Felicity groans, "Omigod." To Meghan's great delight, Greg feels her neck and declares, "Ummm, well, they seem fine to me, but if you want to be sure we can take a culture." Meghan agrees to the culture. Greg asks Felicity to make an appointment with one of the doctors for Meghan. She is dejected and Greg leaves. Before leaving, Meghan says to Felicity, "God. Oh, he's so my flavor. You keep your grubby little mitts off him," which she punctuates with the Index Finger of Accusation. Felicity rolls her eyes.
Ben is drinking a coffee at Dean & Deluca and he seems a million miles away. Javier brings him back to Earth by asking him to work an additional shift on Wednesdays. Ben considers for a moment and says, "Wednesdays?" Javier implores him to say yes but Ben remembers that he has class then. Javier wonders if it is "an important class." Ben tells him it is and suggests that he ask Felicity. Javier informs him that Felicity is the reason he needs someone to work on Wednesdays because that's when she wants to work at the Health Centre. Ben is surprised and Javier says, "Yeah, I know can you believe it? Some people consider health more important than muffins. I don't know." Ben continues to drink his coffee and Javier says, "Are you drinking the profits?" All non-sequitorly, Ben rants, "I'll tell you why she wants to work at the Health Centre. It's Greg Stenson. He's this pompous-ass guy that runs the place. He's like this guy -- I'm telling you -- he's like..." Javier responds, "Yeah. Greg. She mentioned him."
Ben is thrown by this development and he asks Javier what Felicity said. Javier doesn't remember exactly what she said because he forgot to take his "Gingko Bilbloba." Hee, hee! That's how I'm going to pronounce it from now on. Ben presses him for more information and Javier says, "Something about how fantastic he is and inspiring because he, like, helped all these people. But I do remember she was very excited not to work here on Wednesdays." Ben is miffed and he retreats into his own world. Javier asks Ben why he is staring at him. Ben denies staring at Javier. Javier asks, "Do I look fat?" Ben says no. Javier pushes the sides of his face back and asks, "Would I look better like this?" Ben says no again. Javier asks if he is sure. Ben says yes. Javier says, "Tighter though?" Ben abandons this scintillating conversation to make a phone call. Javier asks, "If I get Norma to work on Wednesdays instead, could you work on Thursday?" Ben agrees and Javier gushes, "Oh, I love you and your whole look." When he says the word "whole" he gives a little hand flourish just like the one Karen gave Will on Will and Grace when she told him that "brown is over." Ben says, "Ok, go away." I guess those charm school lessons that Ben took are starting to pay off. Ben's call goes like this: "Yeah, hi, uh, is Pam there. Yeah, Donna. Yeah, it's Ben." Ben, when videophones are commonplace, you'll be able to get away with sounding that dumb because you'll look so damn good. Until then, try polishing up your conversational skills.
At the library, Elena is studying for an exam. Tracy approaches her from behind and scares her. Elena asks him if he is trying to give her a heart attack. Tracy says, "The answer's carboxylic acid." Elena tells him that he's fifteen minutes late and asks where he was. He says he was on his way to the library. A woman nearby shushes them. Tracy wants Elena to quit beating up on him and he asks where they are. Elena says, "We? I'm in the middle of chapter four." Tracy recites, "Nucleophilic substitution reactions." Elena is floored that Tracy has already read the chapter and is acting casually about the upcoming exam. His response is, "Oh, not to worry. I'm like a Boy Scout. I'm always prepared." Elena doesn't seem thrilled by his attitude but when he asks if she is wearing "that perfume" again, she says yes and smiles. They start studying in earnest.
The class Knoll is teaching is finished and the students are picking up their graded papers on the way out. Ruby looks for her paper and Ben asks how she is. She replies, "Fine, thanks" and leaves. I guess she's not into socializing with the former boyfriend of her former boyfriend's former girlfriend. Wait a minute, did we just stumble into a Beverly Hills episode? This gang is getting pretty incestuous. As Ben picks up his paper, Knoll says, "She's, um, she's waiting for me to tell her what I want to do." Ben asks what he is going to do but Knoll doesn't know yet. Ben asks him to play basketball but Knoll says no. Ben glances at his paper and says, "Hmm. Guess I didn't really get Tocqueville, huh?" Knoll, the committed educator says, "Yeah. Well, it wasn't the worst in the class." That's it, pass the torch, Knoll. Inspired by Knoll's startling brilliance, Ben heads off to the library to read some Goethe in German. Okay, so that's not very likely. He probably really did go play basketball.
Out on the street, Felicity is walking while we hear her latest tape to Sally. "Dear Sally, I've sort of been overloading myself lately with work, school, and the Health Centre. Just keeping really busy. It's kind of easier than thinking about what's happened with my family. How things fell apart. But I guess the truth is that you can't avoid that stuff for very long. It always catches up with you." Felicity arrives at an apartment door and knocks on it. Her dad answers and she says, "Hey, I, um, I got off early. I thought maybe we could go grab some dinner. Um, but I should've called. I just..." Her dad thinks the idea "sounds great," and he says he just needs to get his coat. Felicity looks around at the apartment, which is full of packed boxes. Her father explains, "The university apartments were all full, so this was the best I could do on such short notice. Apparently, the housing market's pretty tough." She asks if he is going to unpack and he says he hasn't gotten around to it but he'll do it soon. When he leaves the room to get his coat, Felicity snoops around and finds a couple of prescription vials which she picks up to read the labels. Nice invasion of privacy, Felicity. Did your parents read your diary and this is your payback? When she notices her dad in the doorway she hastily takes a seat.
Felicity and Julie are at a computer and they seem to be looking at web site with information about prescription drugs. Felicity reads, "Diazepam. That was one of his prescriptions. It says here it's a sleeping pill." Julie responds, "Well, that's not so bad. Lots of people take sleeping pills. What's the other one? Um, Flurazepam." Felicity says, "Yeah. It's for anxiety and panic attacks. God, I'm the worst daughter. I mean, this morning at Dean & Deluca, I was so preoccupied that I barely paid attention to what he was saying. I haven't called him once in the last two weeks." Dr. Julie declares, "Everybody goes through hard times. He's gonna be okay." A pensive Felicity says, "I don't know." Julie leaves.
Again, I will caution you that I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on MBTV, but I did a little research about Diazepam and Flurazepam. Both are part of the same family of drugs, which are known as benzodiazepines. Diazepam, a.k.a. Valium, is an amnestic, an antipanic agent, an antitremor agent, a sedative-hypnotic, and a skeletal muscle relaxant adjunct. Flurazepam is also and sedative-hypnotic. I got the following information about benzodiazepines from http://health.philly.com/pharmacy:
Benzodiazepines (ben-zoe-dye-AZ-e-peens) belong to the group of medicines called central nervous system (CNS) depressants (medicines that slow down the nervous system). Some benzodiazepines are used to relieve anxiety. However, benzodiazepines should not be used to relieve nervousness or tension caused by the stress of everyday life. Some benzodiazepines are used to treat insomnia (trouble in sleeping). However, if used regularly (for example, every day) for insomnia, they usually are not effective for more than a few weeks. Many of the benzodiazepines are used in the treatment of other conditions, also. Diazepam is used to help relax muscles or relieve muscle spasm. Diazepam injection is used before some medical procedures to relieve anxiety and to reduce memory of the procedure. Chlordiazepoxide, clorazepate, diazepam, and oxazepam are used to treat the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. Alprazolam and clonazepam are used in the treatment of panic disorder. Clobazam, clonazepam, clorazepate, and diazepam are used in the treatment of certain convulsive (seizure) disorders, such as epilepsy. The benzodiazepines may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Benzodiazepines may be habit-forming (causing mental physical dependence), especially when taken for a long time or in high doses.
Where am I going with all this information? The same place I bet the Felicity writers are going; Dr. Porter is going to develop a substance abuse problem. He is essentially double-dosing the same medication for different symptoms of the same illness. If he isn't already writing his own prescriptions, he will be soon. I'm also going to guess that Greg will be the one to notice Dr. P's irritability, or catch him raiding the drug cabinet. Just wait and see.
Felicity and Dr. Porter are walking down the street. She explains the staff shortage at the Health Centre and asks if he would help out by doing a couple shifts during the few weeks. He agrees and Felicity smiles.
Knoll is in the lecture hall erasing the board. He should have asked Ben to stay behind and clap the erasers. Ruby comes in and says hi. Knoll reminds her that class doesn't begin for another twenty minutes. They have an awkward moment, which Knoll makes worse by asking her if she's had any morning sickness. She tells him that she's fine and she asks him to sign a transfer form so that she can get into another section of the course because it is awkward being in his class. Knoll says that he'll turn in the form right away. She leaves and pauses in the hall outside of the door and Knoll stands in the class.
At the Health Centre, Felicity tells Greg that her dad has agreed to help out. He asks what kind of medicine he practices and she tells him, "He's a cardiac surgeon. But he wants to help out. He used to volunteer at the Sanford Student Clinic. And he can be here tomorrow if you want him." Greg is pleased with the offer and he walks Felicity out.
At the Loft, Sean appears to be watching a porn video he's made about Julie. Oops, he actually watching the "Docuventary" that he made last year. Ben comes into the room and Sean asks where he is going. Ben says, "Stupid date." Sean replies, "Nice attitude." Ben elaborates, "Just this girl I don't even know. It's gonna end up being boring and lame. I don't know why I'm going." Sean tries to trick him with some fancy logic and says, "So, why are you going?" Ben reiterates that he doesn't know and asks what Sean is doing. Sean tells him he's "raking in enormous quantities of cash. [He] sent a letter to the independent film channel on that Docuventary thing that [he] did last year. And they want to see it, so [he's] sending them a copy. Ben says, "The thing I was in? Please don't send that." Sean tells him that he is sending it and wishes him a "nice stupid date." Wait, is Ben going out with Julie?
Ben and Pam are having dinner and Ben is smiling. Pam takes a big bite of her sandwich, and says, "Hmm. I know. I eat a lot." Ben reassures her that he eats a lot too. Pam says, "This Italian girl I worked with in Bosnia was always like, relentamento di relenamento, which translated means I eat like a pig." Ben asks her what she was doing in Bosnia. Pam explains, "Oh, yeah. I was, um, I was there for six months as a volunteer for the Red Cross. I took a whole semester off to do it, um, which I thought would cost me my scholarship, but the university was really cool about it." Flummoxed, Ben asks, "Wait, you're here on scholarship?" Pam says, "I never would be able to afford college otherwise. I've got five brothers. My mom's a mom. My dad's the pulp processing engineer at the paper mill." Your mom is a mom? You don't say! I think she must mean that her mother doesn't work outside of her home; however, the implication is that women who are employed outside of their homes aren't real mothers. Who is writing crap like that? Anyway, Ben snottily says, "The paper mill. Really?" Pam tells him that's where people from Bishop, Oregon work. Ben thought Pam was from New York and he stammers trying explain why he thought that. They blah-blah some more about Pam being so "forward" and "forcing" her number on Ben, and Cosmogirl magazine which for some reason constitutes a good time for these two.
At the health Centre, Felicity bustles around and her dad orders an "EKG and some thyroid functions on the patient in one." Greg interrupts and asks what the patient's complaint is. Dr. Porter says, "Palpitations." Greg doesn't think Dr. Porter's plan is such a hot idea because it's "not normally what [they] do." Geez, I hate people who resist doing things differently just because of what was always done in the past. Felicity tries to make peace by telling her father, "Greg is just careful about how many tests we order. He just wants to make sure it's necessary." Felicity's father gets all doctor-man uppity and snaps, "It is. So take care of it, okay?" as he is walking away. Greg pipes up, "You know, he could just be having panic attacks." Dr. Porter says, "Are you a doctor?" to which Greg says he isn't. The doctah tells Greg to leave the medical decisions to him. Greg tells him that their resources are limited and Dr. Porter asks him if he calls "ruling out a cardiac arrhythmia a waste?" The pissing match kicks into high gear when Greg says, "In a 20-year old who's probably popping No-Doze all night. Yeah. Maybe." Felicity gets in between the dueling doctors and tells Greg that her dad "may be right." Greg counters with, "Look, I've been working here for over a year. We get patients like this all the time." Oh boy, Greg, don't you remember what Felicity told you about her father volunteering at the Stanford clinic? He is familiar with the habits of college students. Dr. Porter finishes Greg off with, "You've worked here for a year? I've been practicing medicine for twenty. I want those tests done, okay?" Felicity agrees to look after it but then apologizes to Greg. Whatever. Greg says, "At least we have a doctor." Uh, yeah, and that doctor is not you. Don't get me started on the egotistical tendencies of male doctors. , I suppose it'll be syringes at dawn, in the quad for these two.
Ben and Pam are getting busy on the sofa at the loft. Ben stops conducting his physical examination of Pam and she wonders why. Ben babbles, "I'm trying to think of something to say to try and explain this. I'm really sorry. It's just -- I guess my head's somewhere else." Pam asks, "With someone else?" Ben says yes. Pam tells Ben to call her if things don't work out with "whoever it is." He apologizes and she says that she had fun.
At Knoll and Elena's apartment, she and Tracy are studying. Tracy is not really focussing on the work so he starts scraping wallpaper. Elena wants to finish the chapter and he says, "Well, when you're done we can quiz each other." Elena clarifies that she meant that they both have to finish the chapter. He informs her that he has finished it. Elena quizzes him about a bunch of chemical processes and reaction to find out if he does know the material. She seems annoyed that he is so well prepared and he starts scraping again. Elena asks him to leave because he is "scraping too loudly and [she] can't study with [him] and [his] snide attitude." Tracy laughs, "Woo! You know, I've never met anyone as competitive as you," as he gathers his stuff up. Elena claims she isn't competitive and Tracy gives her a "yeah, right." Elena tries to study after he leaves and can't.
The Health Centre review has begun and Felicity's father is a half-hour late for his shift and the appointments are backing up. Felicity speculates that her dad got "tied up in an emergency or something," and she says she'll call the hospital to find out. She talks to someone at the hospital and discovers that he father quit working there weeks ago. Felicity is puzzled and disappointed to find out that her father has been lying to her.
Tracy finishes his chemistry exam much earlier than anyone else does and he sits there for a while flipping pages and tapping his pencil. He gets the stank-eye from another student so he gets up to leave. On his way out he whispers "good luck" to Elena. Once he is out in the hall, he does a little dance to indicate that he aced the test. Elena laughs and the teacher closes the door.
Ben is cleaning a table at Dean & Deluca while Javier asks how his date was. Ben says, "It just didn't go very well. It ended early." Javier wants to know why and Ben continues, "She was beautiful. She was brilliant and she was funny. And she was great. I don't know." Javier wants to have a "man to man, heart to heart" talk with Ben.
Now Ben and Javier are seated at a bar. Javier sips a beer but he makes a face after drinking it. He says to Ben, "Everyday you come into work, I see you. I watch you. And I think: that poor guy. Look at the poor guy. Just look at him." Ben starts looking around to see who Javier is talking about. Javier says he is talking about Ben and he thinks Ben is crumbling. Javier continues, "Benjahmeen, I never -- I never told you this about me. But I dated a girl once. Her name was Lola. She was a showgirl." Ben and I laugh. Javier goes on, "No she wasn't. I'm kidding, I'm kidding. She wasn't a showgirl. But her name was Lola, actually. And she was -- oh -- Ben she was fantastic. I always knew, you know, that I was attracted to men, you know. Even when I was little before I got glasses. I wasn't dating anyone at the time, you know, and Lola, she wanted me so bad. And she would say things like, Javier, right here, right now. And we were in church and she would say this to me." Ben doesn't know what Javier's point is. Javier says, "Okay, I'll skip the big tearjerker ending. But I just wanted you to understand that I've been exactly where you are right now, left asunder by a woman and you can't keep moping around, you know, and sabotaging dates. You have to get over it. It's never gonna work out with her." Ben says, "You don't think it could work?" Javier thinks it can't work out because "Maggie is a married woman, okay?" Why, yes I am, but don't count me out just yet. Oh, I get it, Javier is not referring to me, but rather, he is referring to Bitchy-TV-Maggie. Ben laughs, "You think I'm all asunder because of Maggie?" Javier says, "Poor thing, you're in denial." Ben says, "Javier, it's not Maggie. It's not Maggie." You don't know how much it tears me apart to hear that. Anyway, Javier asks who it is and Ben says, "It's not Maggie. I just gotta get over it. You're right. But, uh, I, I do have to go. I have a class to go to. But thank you very much for the drink and the talk." Ben leaves and Javier asks the bartender, "Do you have, like, any sourdough sticks or, a basket of mixed things like Wasabi peas or something like that? That Japanese snacking thing you have, no? None of that? Nothing? A lichee nut, something for me to snack upon?" Ah, classic Javier. Is there anything he can't do?
Dr. Porter finally arrives at the Health Centre. He apologizes for being late and blames it on being stuck at the hospital. Greg tells him about the backlog of patients. Dr. Porter goes into a room to get changed and Felicity follows him. He apologizes to her again and she confesses that she phoned the hospital. He tries to play it off by saying that he must have missed the message. She lets him know that she found out that he hasn't worked there for weeks. He still won't admit it and claims that the person Felicity spoke to must have confused him with someone else. A reviewer wanders in and Felicity says they'll be out of the room in a minute. Dr. Porter admits that he slept through the alarm. Felicity whines, "But you wake up at six every morning." He tells her that he's fine. She says, "Dad, I saw the sleeping pills. I know that you're taking the anxiety medicine." He snaps, "I will not stand here and be grilled by my own daughter." She says she isn't grilling him. He claims to be fine but she persists with, "It just doesn't seem like you. I don't understand why you would quit your job and not tell anyone about it." He angrily states, "Look, I've accepted all your decisions: dropping pre-med, taking art classes. Now you have to accept mine," and with that, he stomps out.
Elena is checking out the chemistry test scores posted on a bulletin board in the hall. She seems pleased with her grade. Tracy comes up and asks how she did. She crows, "Actually, pretty well." Tracy looks at the list and asks what she got. It turns out that she got 95 and he got 99. He asks her out to dinner. She accepts but she seems a little peeved that he got a higher mark. Ugh, competition bores me, especially over marks. Why can't Elena get a real story line?
Elena and Knoll are chatting in their apartment and he confesses that he misses Ruby. Elena says, "Of course you do." He says, "No, I mean -- I really miss her. Can you believe that? Well, I am sure you can, cause I'm one of those guys." Elena takes him down a few notches with, "Now this self-pity stuff is not gonna fly. I know you much better than that. When you were with Felicity, you were the one that dumped her and ran off with Hannah. You're not always the victim." Testify, sister! Knoll whines that she isn't being supportive and says, "Everything is just so...crazy. And it's not, I mean, it's not only about me obviously. Ruby is going through this huge thing, but part of me wishes that I could be that person, who could just put it all behind me, and move on. Who wouldn't think about how scared she must be or worried that's she getting morning sickness, or that she's lonely." Elena thinks it is because he cares about Ruby. Knoll continues, "Of course, I do. I mean, it's just it's a little hard to reconcile that with the fact that she slept with another guy and she's having his baby. I'm missing her. Like an idiot." Elena sighs, "Look, you know I hoped this worked out differently for you, but..." Knoll interjects, "But you think that I should forgive Ruby." Elena says, "That's what makes you special, Knoll. That's what sets you apart -- it's that you're able to forgive. That doesn't make you weak. It makes you strong." When has Knoll been all forgiving?
Ruby is talking to her mother on the phone in her room. "Mom, I know, I've been busy. I have six classes. I miss you too." Knoll comes in through the half open door. Ruby says to her mother, "Can I call you back? Okay, tell Dad I love him. Okay, bye." She hangs up the phone and they say hi to each other. Knoll asks if she has told her parents yet. Ruby says that she hasn't. Knoll hands back the course transfer card and says, "I don't think that you should switch sections. I spent the past week thinking about what you said. How you want us to be together, be a couple. But I can't forget this isn't my child. It took me awhile, but I understand why you choose to do this, to take this path. I hope that you can understand that it's impossible for me to take it with you. But, I'm here for you, as your friend." Ruby cries and says, "I might need that." Knoll says, "Yeah, I know." Knoll, if you can't get over Ruby's indiscretion or infidelity, you really shouldn't be in her life at all. You're not mature enough to let it go for good. Your kind of help, Ruby doesn't need.
Felicity is sitting outside, watching people skate, and then she's knocking on her father's door. They have an awkward moment then her dad asks if everything is okay at the Health Centre. She says, "Yeah. They, uh, they find out the results of the review today. But I haven't talked to Greg yet." Dr. Porter hopes that "everything turns out okay," and he apologized for what he said earlier. Felicity says, "When I found out you weren't at the hospital anymore, I just got this horrible feeling in my stomach. Why didn't you tell me you quit?" He says that he didn't want to worry her and that he really is okay. She whines, "But that's what scares me, when you say that you're okay, I mean, it feels like you're just saying that so I don't worry and I don't want you to do that for me. I want you to tell me the truth. I want you to trust me." Dr. Porter explains, "I guess I just thought all of this would be temporary -- work here at the hospital for a few months, your mom would call say that she wanted me to come home. I could get back to Palo Alto, get back to my life there, but that hasn't happened. I really miss your mother." Felicity wonders if he has told her mother that. He admits that he has. Felicity says that she is sorry.
Ben arrives at the loft and Sean tells him to call Felicity. Ben hopefully says, "She called?" Sean bursts his bubble with, "Yeah, she wants you to take over another one of her shifts over at Dean & Deluca." Ben dumps his coat on a chair. Sean says, "Or you could hang that up. What's your problem?" Ben says, "She's into this guy, Greg. And he's, he's a total dick. I'm telling you he's a total dick. And now she's working at Dean & Deluca less and less and with this guy more and more. And I think she's being an idiot." Sean says, "Oh, she's being an idiot." Ben replies, "Yes, that's my opinion. I think she's being an idiot." Sean wonders why Ben has an opinion about Felicity's life. Ben doesn't have an answer for him so he changes the subject and asks, "Why, why haven't you told Julie, you know, that you love her? I mean, you haven't done that yet, have you?" Ben asks why again and Sean says, "Because we must be honest, we both see it coming. Y'know, I mean, the second that I say, Julie, I love you, she's going to smile awkwardly, and say that she wants to be my dear friend. She likes me and respects me, and that she's flattered. Then I'll just want to kill myself. No, I'd rather say nothing and keep alive the idea, than get shot down by the girl that I live with. But, uh, this isn't about me and Julie, is it?" Ben responds, "No, I don't know. I just -- I see the way that she looks at Greg. She -- she admires him. She admires that whole pre-med-running-the-Health-Centre thing. And I don't have that. Then I think about what you said, about how Felicity and I shouldn't be together, how I'm not ready. But, I really think you were wrong. I think that I'm ready. I really do." Sean tells him to go tell Felicity how he feels. Ben grabs his coat and leaves. Good thing he didn't hang it up after all.
Felicity is at the Health Centre asking Greg how the review went. Greg tells her that they passed and he asks her if she wants to "hang out for a little bit." Felicity agrees and Greg breaks out a bottle of sparkling cider that one of the patients brought in as a thank-you gift. "He, uh, thought he had an STD. Turned out to be chicken pox. He was pretty thrilled." Then Greg tells her that her dad was right about the student having an arrhythmia and that he owes her dad an apology. Greg pours the cider into paper cups and they both say "cheers." Ben approaches the clinic and sees Felicity and Greg sitting together, talking and drinking. They don't see him so Ben doesn't bother approaching Felicity.
