Anyway, Delia and her ever-present baseball cap eat breakfast quietly. Treat says good morning to Ephram, who ignores him as he grabs his lunch. Treat is beardless, by the way. So, Treat has no beard, Sue Ellen is alive, and Ephram is being a dick to Treat. Well, two of those things will change within the five minutes. Treat notes that Ephram is unusually quiet, and Ephram snarks back that Treat is unusually interested. Before I can process what an unbelievable ass-kicking I would have gotten had I ever said something like that to my father, Sue Ellen tells Ephram not to be nervous about his recital, and that she and Treat will both be there. Ephram pointedly gives an "I'm sure" that's meant for Treat, and leaves. When he's gone, Treat's all, his recital's tonight? Treat, I don't completely condone Ephram's bitchery toward you, but comments like that make it tough to take your side. Better to keep silent and be thought a bad father than open your mouth and remove all doubt. Or something. Sue Ellen gives him a look of death. I guess Treat's beardless face has reflective powers. She tells Treat that the recital's at eight, and that Ephram's going early with "a friend" (presumably Gwen Stefani), while she and Treat will leave at seven to make it out to New Jersey on time. I'll point out that she doesn't mention Delia going with them, so presumably she's staying home with a babysitter. I hope he or she wasn't as irritating as Madison. Treat bitches about Ephram studying piano in Jersey. Sue Ellen patiently explains that the best teacher is in Jersey, and Treat snarks that he didn't think Jersey had the best anything. Oh, dear, now Treat's alienating Sars. This is not a good opening minute for you, Treat. My advice? Grow the beard, stat. ["Seriously. Girls in Jersey have the best right hooks, Treat. Shut it." -- Sars] Delia sticks up for New Jersey, pointing out that the Giants play there, and Treat gets technical that the Giants were originally from New York, and blah blah blah shut-up-Treat-cakes. I will, however, throw Treat a bone and say that he looks nice in the suit he's wearing, although I frankly can't even process the fact that he hasn't got a beard. It's like if Bright showed up with a shaved head one day. I'd be willing to give that one a chance, though. Treat leaves as Sue Ellen tells him to be home on time. Oh, the twists and turns that follow from the everyday decisions we make. Sigh.
