Previously on ER: Wendall and Carter kissed, awkwardly. Abby told Neela to give herself at least a week to outshine the rest of them. Weaver praised Susan's job as Chief, but added that there was still a lot of room for improvement and additional leadership.
Susan grabs a fax while talking on the phone, trying to explain why County's patient satisfaction scores have dropped. Maybe because the doctors just do whatever they want, and never get in trouble for it? Or because they hire people like Malarkey and Shane West? Luka walks in and does that thing where he inserts himself into Susan's phone conversation, which is usually annoying, but it's Luka, so I'll give him a pass. Susan promises to work on improving the scores, and hangs up. Luka guesses correctly that she was talking to Weaver, whom Susan refers to as "the four-letter word beginning with a c." Crip? That's insensitive. Luka thinks she means "Crab." Susan explains that their patients hate the residents (Ray, Morris, and Pratt get singled out) for not listening. Luka tries to brush it off, but Susan adds that Neela got the lowest score of all. Luka asks about Abby, which allows Luka/Abby fans (I refuse to use the word "Luby," or "Carby," or whatever) to keep hope alive. Susan says that Abby had good patient satisfaction scores, but has other issues. Luka points out that the interns have to learn medicine before they can learn how to interact with patients, and that they need to be taught both. Susan says, "You can't teach empathy." She spots Shane West and adds, "Or common sense." Shane West is wearing a sleeveless t-shirt and dirty jeans. I don't know many jobs where that outfit would be appropriate. Maybe unemployed actor, which is something I'm starting to hope Shane West learns a lot about, and soon. I know he hasn't opened his mouth yet, but shut up, Shane West. Susan takes him to task for his attire, and takes the opportunity to remind everyone of the dress code, which includes no piercings. Jerry asks if she means visible piercings. That line would have been funnier if Frank had said it. Or Luka.
Susan spots Pratt wandering in, two minutes late, and yells at him, but he completely ignores her. Susan asks Abby if the tone of a woman's voice makes it easier to ignore. Maybe it's because you never shut up, Susan. People tune you out. Like Abby is doing right now. Susan tells Abby that she got a call from the Renal Attending that Abby covered for (or lied to, depending on your viewpoint), and in order to smooth things over, Susan had to review all of Abby's charts for the past three months. Abby still can't believe Susan did that, but Susan ignores her and starts listing off all the mistakes that Abby made, or shortcuts Abby took. Abby has explanations (or excuses) for all of them and concludes with a bitchy "And who are you?" Susan is stunned that Abby is questioning her authority. I think Susan could have started out by letting Abby know that she supports her, and Abby could have dropped that attitude down a notch. Like it or not, Susan is her boss, and thus gets to tell her what to do.
Jerry interrupts to announce an incoming car-accident victim. Abby thinks Susan is letting her promotion go to her head, and stomps off to take a break. Susan reminds Abby that residents don't get breaks. They don't? Isn't that illegal? What if they have to pee? Abby lies that she's going to wait for the car-accident victim and heads out. Once outside, Abby lights up a cigarette. An SUV comes screaming into the ambulance bay, and someone yells that his brother has been shot. Abby tosses the cigarette and runs over. Once she gets close, someone pulls her inside, and the SUV takes off. Abby struggles to get free as we crash to credits. They always say that cigarettes will kill you, but I don't think that's what they meant.
Abby, in the back seat of the SUV with a young teenager, struggles to get out. She finally throws him aside and heads for the door handle. The young teen calls the driver's name: "Loose! Loose!" Or it might be Luce. But I'm going with the captioning here. Loose calmly points a gun at Abby's head as rap music blares from the stereo. No stereotypes here! Loose tells Abby to shut up, and she does. Young Teen tells Abby, "He's in the back!" Loose orders Abby to get in the back, and he has a gun, so she follows orders. As she leans into the back, she sees a guy with a gunshot wound to the belly, holding in his intestines. Abby is shocked as the guy explains that he was shot from behind, and that the bullet went out the front. Young Teen tells Abby to fix him. Abby says helplessly that they need to go to the hospital. Young Teen grabs the gun and points it at Abby's head while telling her to fix the injury. He adds, "Bitch," for good measure. I think the gun was incentive enough there, shorty.
Sam treats a lady who is complaining of shortness of breath with oxygen and tells her to try to stay calm. The woman explains that her regular doctor is on vacation, and that she's particular about who she sees. Sam tells her that's smart, and promises that Shane West will be right over. In the bed, Shane West tries to calm a woman who is speaking Spanish, explaining that he removed the splinter, and that it can't possibly still hurt. The woman keeps caterwauling anyway. Shane walks away with his students and informs them that the woman has "Hispanic panic." Like we didn't hate Shane West enough already, now he has to be racist, too? At least when Romano was an asshole, it was somewhat funny. Shortness of Breath Woman hears Shane's charming description and looks uneasy. He picks up her chart and calls her "Miss Mitchell." She corrects him that it's "Ms.," and he promises to run some tests. As they walk off, Shane comments loudly, "I thought 'Ms.' went out in the '80s." No, what went out in the '80s are sleeveless t-shirts, loser. Sam hands Ms. Mitchell a bottle for her urine sample, and Ms. Mitchell asks for another doctor. As Sam said earlier: smart lady.
Abby tries to work on CJ, the gunshot victim, and asks for a napkin or towel to stop the bleeding. Abby tells CJ that he needs surgery, but CJ ain't hearing it. Abby presses her lab coat onto his wound, and he cries out in pain. CJ tells Abby to make a list of the supplies she'll need. The SUV pulls up to a drugstore. Loose tells Young Teen to shoot Abby if she moves while he runs in to get the supplies. Abby tries to get them to listen to reason, saying that she can't fix him up, because he has internal injuries and could bleed to death. CJ tells her to use a needle and thread, and Loose adds that she can write them a prescription for antibiotics. He yells at Abby to start writing her supply list, and Abby sighs.
Back at County, Neela reels off facts about ulcerative colitis for her students. The guy in the bed interrupts to ask calmly how long someone with melanoma that's spreading has to live. Neela can't give an answer, since it doesn't compute in her giant robot brain. The guy starts sobbing, and Neela looks disgusted and walks out with her students. Outside the room, Neela starts giving a list of biological explanations for "excessive emotionality" as Luka listens in the background. The students kind of look at Neela like, "The fuck?" Luka interrupts to say that the patient's cancer is spreading, so he probably has a reason to cry. Neela doesn't get it. Is this the same Neela who, in the most recent episode, went out of her way to make sure that the children in the hospital had gifts? Yeah, she's unfeeling and uncaring.
Amira walks up with a guy who is looking for anyone who worked on Monday. The guy, Mr. Putnam, says that his wife died there on Monday, and that he is looking for anyone who treated her. Neela abruptly says that she wasn't her patient. Luka fills in more gently that Mr. Putnam might try the nurses' station.
Amira leads Mr. Putnam over to Carter, who is talking to Wendall, and explains that situation. Carter offers his condolences. Mr. Putnam explains that he was out of town, and that his wife died before he could return. He wondered if she said anything, or if she was scared. Wendall gets the wife's name and promises to look into it for him. Mr. Putnam wants to wait while she does, and asks haltingly what room she was in. Carter says they can't really know, and Mr. Putnam walks away. Hey, Carter got a decent haircut for once. Suddenly, I approve of his relationship with Wendall. If it means an end to the shag, I'm all for it. Carter tells Wendall that it was nice of her to help out, and she says that it's her job. She starts to ask him out, but Susan interrupts to complain about Abby's disappearing. Wendall excuses herself. Susan explains about Abby: "I called her on some stuff, she got all bent out of shape and stormed out. I guess I hurt her feelings or whatever, and she declared herself 'on break.'" Susan even makes sarcastic finger quotes, so you know she will feel extra-bad when she finds out what really happened. Susan tells Malik to text-message Abby.
Cut to Abby's beeper going off. Young Teen is surprised that she doesn't have a cell phone, and tells her about his brother's phone, which "plays this funny little song when somebody calls." I seriously doubt this kid wouldn't know the word "ringtone." I think my mom even knows that one. Young Teen reveals that his name is Little C, thank God. Abby continues to cry, and explains that CJ is sick, and that she can't help him. She concludes, "I'm a doctor. Your brother's gonna die unless he gets an operation, so we have to take him to the hospital." Get used to Abby saying that, because it happens a lot. And not to spoil it, but they don't take him to a hospital. Just then, CJ returns with the supplies and tosses them in back, ordering Abby to "get busy!"
Susan meets the paramedics, who are wheeling in Bernie Mac's niece, who has multiple gunshot wounds. Man, Bernie was hospitalized for pneumonia and all hell broke loose. Susan tells Jerry to page Abby again as she comments that the victim looks young. The paramedic babbles about other gunshot victims, but nothing really comes of the alleged gang war that's going on, so whatever.
Abby asks for more light in the back of the SUV so that she can see what she's doing. Little C asks what she's going to do first, and Abby says she needs to put CJ's intestines back. I hope that my intestines always stay right where they are. I love you, intestines! Abby explains to CJ what she's doing, and complains that she can't work while they are moving. Loose hits something and then backs up the SUV to see what it was. Little C runs out of the SUV when he realizes that they hit a cat, and announces that the cat is still alive. Loose gets out and shoots the cat, putting it out of its misery, I guess. Get it? I really thought he was going to end up shooting CJ too, because usually this show is all about the parallel storylines. As Little C and Loose get back into the car, Abby's pager starts going off again. Little C grabs it and throws it out the window.
Loose drives the SUV into an underpass and pulls over. They open up the back, and Abby asks for help lifting CJ's head so that she can give him codeine. CJ gags on it, so Loose grabs the bottle and helps him drink it. As Abby prepares to sew CJ up, Loose realizes that he left the gun sitting nearby and grabs it. Abby notices. So does CJ, who tells Loose to pay attention. Loose grabs the flashlight from Little C as CJ orders Abby to sew him up. Abby says that they need to give the codeine time to work before she starts.
Luka, Susan, Neela, Shane West, and Pratt all work on Bernie Mac's niece. Susan orders Shane to call the OR, and he is upset to have that task. Pratt points out blood in the Foley, which Susan explains means that the bladder has been hit. Shane is still bitching about having to make a phone call, and I'm getting close to just not recapping what he says anymore, because he's so annoying. They roll Bernie Mac's niece over to check for exit wounds. Susan says that she needs an airway, and she tells Pratt to intubate, just as Luka tells Neela to do the same. Oops. Pratt wins. Luka kind of looks at Susan like, "Sorry." Shane West wants to do a femoral cutdown or a subclavian, but Susan and Luka refuse him. Susan tells him to call the blood bank, and to call for an x-ray or a vent. Carter comes in and asks for any resident's help. Shane runs out of there like his hair's on fire, and Luka offers up Pratt, too. Susan looks around like, "Does anyone realize that I'm the boss?" Neela asks how much dopamine to give, and Carter answers her. He's not even part of this trauma! Susan gets pissy and says, "Fine! Pretty controversial approach, but hey guys, I just work here." Susan needs to get over it and let Luka and Carter take on more responsibility if they want to order people around. Let them be the bosses! And let them take all the crap that comes with it, too!
There's a weird scene opening where Sam asks Malik to dispose of some Ketamine, like, what was the point? Sam spots Mr. Putnam sitting to an empty bed. He claims that he can feel his wife's presence, and asks if Sam remembers her. Sam stammers an apology. Mr. Putnam says that his wife had flaming red hair. Sam looks sad and asks her name. Mr. Putnam responds, "Jenna. Hazel eyes. Ringing any bells?" There's something not right about Mr. Putnam.
Abby threads a needle, and says that the whole thing is stupid, because it won't work. CJ argues that he's feeling better. Abby says that he'll bleed to death, and that he needs surgery. CJ orders her to do it. Abby protests that she can barely see what she's doing. Loose orders her to keep going. Abby sighs and pours something on the wound to numb it up, and then starts sewing. She tells CJ to brace himself. He cries out as Abby puts the needle through his skin.
The second gunshot victim at County flails about as Haleh tries to put in an IV. Shane West calls the patient "dude," and he gets all pissed off. Maybe he'll shoot Shane West! Or beat him down in the bathroom and then he'll get brain cancer! Shane follows up by calling the patient "homey," and the patient asks if he bought a book to learn to talk like that. Seriously. Carter explains that the bullet didn't cause much damage. Shane finishes surveying the patient's lower half, and everything looks good. The patient tells Ray, "I bet you like hip-hop too, huh, Mr. Cool Guy?" Can this guy be on every episode and just make fun of Shane West? Shane smirks as Pratt reels off the test order. The patient calls Pratt "my brother," and Pratt tells him to shut up. Amira pokes her head in and says that the splinter lady is asking for Shane, so Shane starts to take off. Carter complains that he's not finished, and Shane says that Pratt can handle it, since he has "a better connection with the guy." Oh, no. Pratt asks what that means, and Shane says that patient isn't comfortable with Shane. Carter says that no one is comfortable in the middle of a trauma. Shane says he has a patient to see, and stomps out. If they let Shane duck out every time a patient hates him, he might as well not show up for his shift -- or ever, really.
CJ has passed out. Loose asks how he's doing, and Abby repeats that he'll die if he doesn't get to a hospital. Loose returns to the driver's seat of the SUV, and Abby asks what the plan is. Little C says they're going to hide until the cops are gone, and then head home. Loose can't believe that Little C is giving out information, and starts the SUV as he says they're going to get something to eat.
Susan says hurriedly that she needs to talk to Neela later about her patient satisfaction scores. Neela asks if there's a problem. Hey! It's Darlene! Where in the hell has she been? Congratulations to Sara Gilbert and her partner on the birth of their first child. I saw a picture in the National Enquirer this week when I was reading the special cover story about who's gay in Hollywood. You know who I found out is totally gay? Ellen DeGeneres. I'll give you a second to recover from the shock. ["But...but she seemed so into Bill Pullman when they were in Mr. Wrong!" -- Wing Chun] Anyway, Susan tells Neela that her patient satisfaction scores sucked. Nice management style, Susan. She then leaves a message for Abby, berating her for walking off a shift. Jerry asks if Abby was that mad, and Neela is surprised to hear that Abby left.
Susan grabs a chart and orders Neela to "satisfy a patient." Dirty! Neela begs off, but Susan says it's not an option. Sam walks up and tells Susan that Shane's reluctant patient, Ms. Mitchell, is still waiting. Susan asks Sam why Ms. Mitchell asked for another doctor, and Sam says she didn't say. Susan greets Ms. Mitchell and gets the rundown on her condition. Sam puts up the x-rays and notes "a little effusion." Susan tells Ms. Mitchell that it indicates fluid around the lungs, but she doesn't seem to have pneumonia. Susan starts her exam. Ms. Mitchell seems to want to tell Susan something, and cuts her eyes at Sam. Susan tells Sam to go check on something. As Sam leaves, Shane stops and asks her why Susan is seeing his patient, since he just got the labs back. Shane walks up and says brightly that he can explain why Ms. Mitchell has been so tired lately -- she's pregnant! Shane adds, "Congratulations!" like every woman would be happy with that news. He snidely tells Susan he has the situation under control. Susan says, "No, you don't." Susan excuses herself and pulls Shane aside. He complains that he doesn't need a chaperone, and Susan tells him that Ms. Mitchell requested another doctor. Shane is shocked. Susan explains that Ms. Mitchell is a pre-op transsexual. It seems so obvious in retrospect, but I didn't figure that one out. Shane wonders how he could have a positive pregnancy test. Susan says it means only one thing. Now wait until after the commercial break to find out what it could be. I thought it would have something to do with the hormones she was taking.
Loose goes through a drive-through and Abby doesn't even try to signal the cashier that she's been kidnapped. Amateur. Abby stares at all the people eating in and around the restaurant and realizes that her captors would probably not be able to come after her with so many witnesses. She glances at the rear door handle, which is smeared with CJ's blood. She checks to see that Loose is occupied with paying for the food. She checks to make sure that CJ is still passed out and starts creeping for the handle. Just as she reaches for it, CJ grabs her wrist and stops her. Abby sits back, defeated. As they pull out, the rap music starts up again as Little C points the gun at Abby's head.
Wendall asks Carter to go snowboarding with her in Telluride. Carter has other plans. If you don't say what the plans are, that just sounds like a lie. At least make something up! "I have plans" is universal dating language for "I have plans to avoid dating you anymore." Neela interrupts to get a consult, and Carter tells her to order some films. Neela returns and says that she knows Carter has known Abby longer than her, and she wonders if they should be worried about her disappearance. Neela asks if Abby has been known to walk off shifts before. Carter says she hasn't, but that doesn't mean that she wouldn't. That's horseshit. Abby may make bad decisions, but she does care about her patients. Sometimes too much.
Loose and Little C eat their food. Abby spots a gas station on the side of the road and yells up to Loose that she needs to use a bathroom. Loose speeds up. Abby points out that he missed the gas station. Loose doesn't respond, but instead pulls into some woods. Shades of Adriana's final moments. Abby, slightly panicked, asks where they are going, but doesn't get an answer. She says she doesn't really have to go to the bathroom, as they drive deeper into the woods. Loose stops the SUV, grabs the gun from Little C, and runs around to the back. He orders Abby to get out, and then orders her to go to the bathroom. Abby dejectedly walks to the edge of the woods as Loose orders her to "drop 'em and go." Abby undoes the tie to her scrub pants, drops trou, and then squats. Her bladder must have been full, because she actually pees with a flashlight and a gun trained on her. I can barely go in a public restroom if there's someone else in the stall. Loose thinks Abby is "scared of big black men." Abby retorts that she's "scared of big black guns." Abby shivers uncontrollably as Loose just stares at her.
Abby and her captors are still camped out in the woods. Loose makes a phone call as Abby tries to get CJ to talk, but he's unresponsive. She takes his pulse. Little C leans over and slides CJ's sleeve up to reveal a tattoo. He shows Abby his own identical tattoo. Abby asks what it means and Little C says he doesn't know because CJ told him not to get one, but he's sure he'll find out soon enough. Loose hangs up the phone and says that the cops are all over, and that his friend will call back once the cops leave. Loose tells Little C to hand over his comics to help build a fire, and then starts telling the story of the man with the hook who preys on couples parked in the woods. Abby rubs her temples and asks Loose for a cigarette. He tosses her the pack and says that they'll give you cancer. Abby probably thinks, "That's the least of my worries at the moment."
Luka and Carter check the board and discuss the likelihood that Abby just walked off the job. They really need a better system for tracking the employees of the hospital. Between Mark's getting beat down, Carter's getting stabbed, Romano's getting flattened, and now Abby's getting kidnapped, they might have a better insurance rate if they kept track of their employees. Susan asks if Luka and Carter finished their QA reports. They both make excuses, and Susan says that their actions set a tone for the rest of the staff. Susan asks if she has to pull rank, and orders them to honor her deadlines and stomps off. Haleh walks up and tells Carter that the gunshot victim who hated Shane West is crashing.
Abby and Loose stand near the fire, and Little C reports that CJ isn't shivering anymore. Abby hustles over and reports that CJ isn't breathing and has no pulse, so she starts doing CPR. Little C and Loose frantically complain that CJ was fine a few minutes ago.
Meanwhile, Luka, Carter, Sam, and Pratt work on their gunshot victim, who is seizing. Sam reports that there hasn't been a head CT yet, because the patient kept getting bumped for cases that were more acute. Carter explains that sometimes gunshot wounds to the head that look superficial can cause intracranial bleeding. Pratt protests that the guy was lucid. Sam says that the guy isn't breathing, and Luka orders an intubation.
Abby continues to perform CPR and says that they need to go to a hospital. Loose protests that CJ doesn't want that, and Abby says that he can't tell them what to do anymore. Loose tries to get CJ to respond, and Abby says fretfully that CJ can't hear them.
Pratt and Sam roll Gunshot Victim's gurney back after he finally gets his head CT. Pratt reports that he has "diffuse hemorrhagic contusions with edema." Luka finds a blown pupil and asks if Neurosurgery is ready for him. Pratt reports that they said the bleed was inoperable. Luka says that if they don't operate, he'll die. Sam says that Neurosurgery can't be reached because they're in the OR with an emergency shunt revision. Luka wants to do a ventriculostomy, a procedure where a catheter is inserted in the ventricles of the brain in order to drain fluid. Pratt is excited. Not so fast. Luka wants Neela to do it. Pratt complains that he's only done one before, and Luka says that Neela hasn't done any.
Abby asks for help with CPR, and wants one of the guys to take over the breathing. They just stare at her, kind of like, "I ain't kissing no dude." Abby says she can't do it herself anymore. Loose orders Little C to do it, but he doesn't move. Abby says that Little C can do the compressions and she'll do the breathing. She gives him quick instructions, and he takes over.
Sam leads Neela into Trauma Green. Neela reports that Abby isn't at the Jumbo Mart Luka explains the procedure, and Neela is shocked that they called her in to do it. By following Luka's sexily whispered instructions, Neela performs the procedure while Pratt watches helplessly. Wendall wanders in and asks to see Neela when she has a sec. She says it's about Mr. Putnam. Neela treated his wife. Neela doesn't look surprised.
Abby and Little C are still performing CPR. Abby asks where they are, and a dazed Loose says that he doesn't know. Abby repeats for the umpteenth time that CJ needs help. Little C is exhausted and falls back, saying that he can't do it anymore. Abby takes over compressions for him, but before she can give a breath, Loose wordlessly takes over, despite his earlier misgivings.
Shane walks up to Ms. Mitchell and says that Susan is working a trauma, and that while he understands Ms. Mitchell's doctor preference, they don't have much time. Ms. Mitchell nods. Shane says that Mitchell has testicular cancer, because the same hormone indicates pregnancy and testicular cancer. ["I knew that!" -- Wing Chun] Shane says that they've run a number of blood tests and he's sure. After Mitchell's face falls, Shane says that it's treatable, even if it has already spread. Mitchell says bitterly that he was "getting rid of the equipment anyway." Shane asks why he wanted another doctor. He says, "It's like you put on some kind of show here, like you're not comfortable in your own skin. I don't trust that kind of energy; I know it too well." Shane's like, "Dude, he just schooled me." I'm starting to come around on this episode, if only for the number of times Shane West was told off.
Abby is still doing CPR and crying. Little C asks if CJ is dying, and Abby says yes. Little C yells, "He ain't dying, bitch! You hear me? Don't you let him die!" Abby finishes a round of compressions, but Loose is done helping. Abby gives the breath, and then starts sobbing while doing compressions, and finally stops. Little C cries too. Little C fingers the gun while Loose covers CJ's face with a blanket. Little C walks to the fire and collapses in sobs. Loose comforts him as Abby sobs alone. Loose quietly takes the gun from Little C and stands up, staring at Abby. She meets his gaze, unflinching, almost defiant.
Loose pulls Abby out of the back of the SUV as she begs him to stop. He forces Abby into the back seat and tells her to lie down. She does, looking terrified.
Neela has finished her procedure successfully. Luka orders Pratt to walk the patient up to ICU. Neela excitedly thanks Luka for calling her in to do the procedure. As they walk out, Luka says that Neela is technically gifted, and that it makes her feel good about herself, but she needs to use that confidence in "the other half of [her] game." Neela still doesn't get it. Wendall walks up and gives Neela Mrs. Putnam's chart. Neela can't believe she doesn't remember it. Wendall makes an excuse for her and Neela says she doesn't know what to tell Mr. Putnam. Luka thinks she does. Neela says she has no memory of Mrs. Putnam, and wonders if Luka wants her to lie. Luka says she should trust herself to offer comfort. Neela walks into the room and says hello. She apologizes for not recognizing his wife's name earlier, and assures Mr. Putnam that his wife wasn't scared when she died. Mr. Putnam cries, and Neela looks worried.
Carter catches up to Wendall and says that he changed his plans and would like to go to Telluride if the offer's still open. Wendall doesn't look very enthusiastic as she says it is. Carter asks what's up, and Wendall asks if he's all right with moving forward in their relationship. Carter doesn't hesitate before saying yes, and asks if Wendall's okay with it. Wendall does hesitate, and then says that she is. They smile at each other with forced brightness. Maybe Carter is secretly gay, and that's why none of his relationships with women seem to work out.
Susan is disgusted to learn from Pratt that Luka called Neela in from another room to do the ventriculostomy. Susan asks Carter's opinion on the situation. Carter doesn't see the big deal. Susan explains that it's customary to let the most senior resident perform such procedures, and that Pratt was right there. Pratt says it's no big deal. Susan says that she's going to talk to Luka about it, and Carter asks if she's overreacting a bit. Susan sarcastically thanks him for his support. Carter says he knows that Susan wants to define herself as chief, and asks if she's sure this is how she wants to do it. Susan stares at him in disbelief.
Abby lies on the back seat and watches the scenery going by. Loose tells Little C to stop crying. Abby speaks up and promises that she won't tell anybody what happened, and that she just wants to go home.
Susan does paperwork in the lounge. Weaver walks in and asks if she's hiding out, and then admits that she used to use the utility closet for the same purpose. Weaver asks how it's going. Susan lies that it's good, and then admits that it blows: "Every time I turn around, I'm either offending someone or hurting someone's feelings, or acting like a total...crab." Weaver deadpans, "Tell me about it. It sucks to be in charge." Susan asks what Weaver did. Weaver advises her to get used to not being liked, which women have a hard time with. Weaver thinks that being in a position of authority means pissing people off and losing friends. I agree with the part about developing a thicker skin, but I don't know that I agree with the part about losing friends. Although I think that depends on hiring people who can understand the difference between business and friendship, which Susan didn't do. Susan considers the advice as Weaver leaves, and then dials Abby's phone and leaves a message saying she's worried, and apologizing for her actions earlier.
Abby's still in the SUV. It stops, and Abby steels herself. Loose opens the door and tells her to get out, because they have business to take care of. Abby looks confused, and gets out. She realizes that she's at County. She cries in front of a bad blue screen. Little C tells her, "Thanks, anyway," and they take off. Abby stands there shivering for a while and then, crying, makes her way carefully toward the ER doors. After a few steps, she starts running, and we fade to black.
