First of all, thanks to Tippi for filling in on the recaplet. And no thanks to the Trail Blazers for making it this far in their NBA playoff series. Could the Suns please just put them out of my misery now, so my TV can resume its regularly scheduled shows? A few things Chuck wants us to know: Morgan became a member of Operation Bartowski. General Redhead wanted Chuck and Sarah back ASAP, but they wanted sex instead.
Now: A poor man's Donald Sutherland makes sure we know he has a weapon, then he knocks on Sarah's train car and offers to carve the meal he's delivered. Sarah tries to get him to leave, because she's with Chuck. More and more room service, until an unshaven Chuck answers and the guy tells Chuck about their dining car. But Chuck says he really likes it in here. Then he asks Sarah about music, but that's not on the top of her list. He'd like to work on that, but instead they make out. Until his phone rings. It's General Redhead, which is funny because it says "Encrypted," but there's a photo of her. Sarah says they were expected back by now, and they can't just NOT go back. But he disagrees, since no one really needs them. They agree to quit the spy life with a very cute, "Do you agree to quit the spy life with me?" "I do." Back at Castle, General Redhead tells Casey that they're AWOL, but she's coming to him since he has access to a "unique resource": Morgan. She thinks his "oddly co-dependent" relationship with Chuck will help them find Chuck.
Ellie's packing. Or, rather, unpacking Awesome's weights, which she tells him are not coming with them to Africa. Especially with the airline weight limits, duh. She looks out the window at Chuck's door and Awesome tells her not to worry: He'll be at their going-away party. She's all, "Whatever. I'm sure what he's doing at Buy More Corporate is very important." Cut to Lyon, France, where Chuck and Sarah are finally in the dining car. Room service guy approaches them and Chuck stumbles into introducing himself as Charles Charles. They are The Charleses. On their honeymoon. Room service guy seems to buy it, but after he's gone, Chuck berates his lame cover story. Sarah says she has a lot of stamps in her passport, but this is the first time she's actually seeing Europe. She suggests skiing in the Alps, but he'd rather catch a lot of great concerts. And if Europe gets boring (yeah, that always happens), there's always Canada. As long as they're together. Then Sarah grabs her knife as suspicious-looking guys walk in (we know they're suspicious because of the black they're wearing). Chuck flashes on them. She hides a knife under the table as they toast to "not being spies" and both pretend they don't know those are bad guys. Oh, Mr. & Mrs. Charles, just kick their asses. You know you want to. Opening Cake credits.

Buy More. Morgan fills Casey in: He hasn't heard from Chuck and he hasn't updated his Facebook status in over a week (you'd think the government could figure that out without Morgan, but they do seem pretty inept on this show), which must mean something pretty important. Morgan thinks he has the fate of the world in his hands, but Casey thinks it's more likely he has Sarah in his hands. Awesome comes in and Casey asks him where Chuck is, but Awesome wanted to know that very same thing. Casey disappears, and Morgan tells Awesome he's been tasked to bring Chuck back from ... well, they don't know. Awesome doesn't care; he just wants Chuck there for the going-away party or it will kill Ellie. Jeffster! jumps out and asks if somebody said, "bar mitzvah." Awesome: "No. Party." But they ignore him and talk about mitzvahs. They assume their invitations got lost in the mail, but no worries: Jeffster! will be there.
Back in their sleeping car, Sarah and Chuck talk about how they're really, really not spies anymore, and if he were, hypothetically, to flash, he'd just ignore it, right? Right?! Of course. They're totally awkward and not even lying down, but they turn off the lights. Then they both make excuses for having to get up, so she ends up leaving the room and breaking into another one, then Chuck slips out behind her. She finds a passport for Juan Diego Arnaldo, a Basque terrorist, but hears Chuck coming. She assumes it's the terrorist, so hides in the bathroom. Chuck then goes through the room and finds the same stuff, including a notebook filled with names and dates. He hears the actual terrorists coming, but the bathroom door's locked, so he climbs out the window onto the side of the train. The terrorists talk about how someone's after the main guy, Juan Diego, but he feels secure here. Then the toilet flushes and Sarah comes out with a Southern accent, wondering why they're in her room. Juan Diego says it's his room, but he'd be happy to show her to wherever. She plays drunk and they send her go, commenting on how lucky her husband is. Chuck, on the side of the train, fumbles until he flashes on how to get back in and flops magically back into his window. Sarah comes back with some ice cream and they both pretend nothing happened. ...

For about two seconds, when she says she can't fake this with him anymore. He assumes she means she's been faking all the orgasms, but no worries, Chuckles, those were real. She's talking about finding the Basque terrorist. They quickly figure out what we know (and I just weecapped): They both know everything. They get all hot and bothered about how sexy it is to talk about terrorists, and then decide it would be criminal to turn their backs on this "one last mission." Then they make out. Because, you know, evil terrorists can wait.
Castle. Morgan and Casey bicker. Casey's back to being mean to Morgan, even though he got him the job on the team. His best threatening line is, "You know it can take up to seven minutes to strangle someone? I've done it in under thirty seconds." Morgan's not that impressed, and instead makes Casey feel like a wimp for being too scared to ask for Morgan's help in finding Chuck. Morgan says he's been studying Chuck for more than twenty years so he knows a thing or two. He quickly figures out where Chuck is based on knowing he left his eczema prescription at home and would have had to fill one. That doesn't work, so they find him buying a copy of the latest issue of Justice League. Conveniently, Chuck has his destination showing on his train ticket: Zurich. Casey tells Morgan to pack, and Morgan gets all excited about traveling first class on the government's dime. Which, of course, means the scene has Morgan and Casey crammed into coach to someone holding a fussy baby. Casey wants to sleep, but Morgan believes he has to be awake rooting for the plane to stay aloft in order for it to actually do so. Casey puts in earplugs and tells Morgan if he wakes him, he'll be the only one who dies.

Sarah and Chuck are drinking coffee in their jammies, all cuddly the morning (or so it seems) discussing how to take down Arnaldo and deliver him without revealing themselves. They're going to cuff him to something at the station and call Interpol. They kiss, and Sarah wonders what the plan is, since all of their spy gear's in Paris. The plan, apparently, is for Sarah to sweet-talk a rocker and steal his handcuffs -- though those might not be for the spying so much as the sex; it's hard to tell with these two. Chuck grabs the cuffs from her and flashes on French so he can talk to a French skier with a hurt leg. He offers her a pillow and steals her painkillers. Back in their room, they get some Southern accent practice so they can fake like newlyweds for the terrorists. Chuck can't help but feel like they're missing something. Hmmm. What could they possibly be missing on a spy mission? The train stops.
CASEY and Morgan are getting on the train (that was a fast flight to Europe, wasn't it?). Casey's annoyed at Morgan's huge backpack and Canadian flag, but he's all about being a proper tourist since he's barely been out of Burbank. They split up and search the train: Morgan has sleeping compartments and Casey has the dining car. Which is where Sarah's acting like a perfectly obnoxious Southern belle. She runs over to introduce her husband to the guys whose room she barged into. The terrorists are very nice and polite, even when she spills their drink. Chuck tells them that "Mr. Charlie Charles doesn't spill a drink onto another man's cheese tray without getting him a new drink." Then he gets one, presumably to lace with the sleeping pills.
Ellie and Awesome are alone to a Jeffster!-occupied stage in their apartment entrance. Ellie wonders why they need a rehearsal anyway, and even Awesome looks annoyed. Jeff quickly blows the amp with his piano-guitar, and he says they need Chuck to fix it. Ellie gets flustered: "No, we don't need Chuck." She tells them they'll figure something else out, so Lester sends Jeff home after their turtlenecks and says they're going unplugged tonight. He takes a big swig of his drink, which Awesome tells him is just lime juice. Back on the train, Chuck gives the terrorists their laced drinks and then steals his wife away. They leave them with a "cheers" then talk about what a great team they are before they start to kiss at their own table. Which is the perfect time for Casey to enter, disgusted: "Oh, god." He sits down, and they wonder what he's doing here and he says he's putting to rest any ideas they have of making this a permanent vacation. They fill him in quietly and quickly on the Basque terrorist, but Casey's not buying it. When the first terrorist passes out, Juan Diego gets what's going on and takes off. But Casey handcuffs Chuck and Sarah together, so they can't go after him. But they can. They punch him simultaneously with a "Sorry," and take off.

Meanwhile, Morgan's in the regular traveling car, where he sees a hottie with a Canadian maple leaf on her scarf. He asks if she's Canadian, and then says, "Me too, eh?" He asks if she's seen his friend, who's "aboot," but she cuts him off: "Stay away from me, or I'll cut you." Chuck and Sarah follow Juan Diego to his room, and she makes it into the room but he doesn't, when the door is kicked closed on their handcuff chain. She fights with all of her other limbs and tells Chuck she's got it, as Chuck stands in the hall, telling people who pass by that he got locked out of his room. Sarah tosses Juan Diego into the bathroom and closes the door, then opens the other one. Chuck topples in on top of her, where they land on the bed in a very sexual-looking position, her feet in the air. And that's when Casey comes in. He's disgusted, because two spies should be able to come up with a better story. Chuck swears the terrorist's in the bathroom (how does he know that?!), and Casey does find him there. He shoots him with some tranq darts and says he believes them now.
Casey asks Chuck and Sarah for an explanation, but the tranq darts hit his little notebook of numbers and names, so he runs out of the room. Casey follows and sees Morgan's blocking the path of the terrorist. He tells him to get out of the way, but instead Morgan (accidentally) uses his giant backpack to knock the guy out, then praises himself. When they're out of the train, Morgan tells Juan Diego, "We're CIA, dirtbag!" Chuck tells him it's not the best idea to share that with just anyone. But it works out well in this case, because it gives Juan Diego the opportunity to tell them that it would be odd for CIA agents to take out the Interpol agents he'd turned himself in to, and that he was going to give up names of other leaders. Casey asks if this mission was run through General Redhead, but they wanted it to be on the down-low. Morgan doesn't get why, but Casey tells him they're quitting. Morgan's so not okay with this, because, Chuck's a spy! But they tell him they want to be together, so they're quitting after handing over Arnaldo. Casey gives them keys to take their cuffs off, and Morgan's faux-Canadian hottie gets off the train and makes a phone call. She tells whoever's on the other end that someone did their job for them by neutralizing the Interpol agents, but now she'll follow Arnaldo and his new friends and make sure they never talk. In shows like this, "never talk" usually means "death."

Chuck's on the phone with General Redhead (and not just any phone, but a red European phone booth), who's scolding him for taking Arnaldo into custody without contacting her first. She's sending more Interpol agents to get Arnaldo, and asks Chuck not to assault them. He tries to explain that they didn't assault those others; just knocked them out with pharmaceutical narcotics, but that's not helping. She tells him to keep Arnaldo safe until the Interpol agents get there, then get back to Burbank immediately, with a good explanation for ... But his phone runs out of money and he tells everyone they get to hang out here for a little longer, so it's like vacay.
Juan Diego's in the unluckiest seat ever, in a coffee shop, listening to Morgan whine to Chuck about how he can't believe he's just quitting. He can't even enjoy his so-delicious-it's-like-it's-straight-from-a-cow cappuccino. Morgan asks Chuck how he can leave without saying goodbye to Ellie, but Chuck says she's going away to do something she wants to do, and he's happy for her and Devin. At another table, Casey's giving Sarah the same lecture. He thinks she's throwing away her life for Chuck, but she says they're making a life, and they are not going back. Casey says he won't stop her, unless she wants him to, because he knows what it's like to make a choice like this. Both Chuck and Sarah say they choose each other over being a spy. Arnaldo speaks up and asks Chuck if it has to be a choice. And Casey says the same thing. Then they both say it's what the other one wants. Morgan asks Chuck to make sure it's what Sarah wants first. Casey tells them to go now before the other Interpol team gets here. They're both like, "Right now?" Arnaldo wants them all to have cake together first. The real bad guy (the fake Canadian) leaves the coffee shop. They all say goodbye, and we're supposed to be sad, but -- DUH! -- we all know this is a fake-out, so it's sort of hard to care. The Charleses leave, with one sad look back.

Turtlenecked Jeffster! (Jeff's even wearing round glasses) sings Leaving on a Jet Plane, as Ellie drinks and drinks, trying to pretend she doesn't care. Awesome videos it all. Back-and-forth shots of the sad party song and Chuck and Sarah walk and talk about how weird this will be. He's never lived outside of California, but she's lived all over the world and only ever felt at home in Burbank. When Jeffster! finishes their song, they invite Ellie and Awesome up for a few words. Later, at the coffeeshop, some agents show up to get Arnaldo from Morgan and Casey. Morgan introduces himself as "M. Grimes," saying he can't tell them what the "m" stands for. He asks them where they're stationed, and they say Lake Cuomo, so he asks a bunch of stuff about it, having read his guide book, and they don't know anything about the place. In other words, Morgan's geekiness catches them in a lie. They're not the agents, of course. Casey draws his gun, but then a bunch of others surround them with their own guns. Morgan sees the hottie, and says, "O, Canada."
Chuck and Sarah are still all melancholy about running away, but then he asks if it's what she really wants. She says she thought it was one way or the other, but maybe... Then the Interpol agents who they knocked out point guns and ask what the hell they've done with Juan Diego Arnaldo. Aaaaand they're handcuffed together again. Interpol guys fill Chuck and Sarah in that the other Interpol agents sent to retrieve Arnaldo were found dead. Sarah and Chuck worry about Morgan and Casey, and try to convince the guys that their friends are in trouble. The Interpol guys don't listen, so Chuck and Sarah punch them and start to run. Meanwhile, fake Canadian hottie is torturing Arnaldo to find out what he's told them. Morgan wants to send out a signal to the CIA to alert them, but Casey says the only agents within 100 miles just quit.

Cue our agents: Chuck drives up with Sarah on the front of his scooter and they see Casey and Morgan. They drive on through the glass storefront, and Chuck kung-fu flashes. He and Sarah work together to kick all the bad guys' (and girl's) asses. It's practically like dancing and is pretty awesome. Chuck can't hit a girl, so Sarah takes that one. And Morgan and Casey do a little tied-up spin move to take an agent out too. When they've won, Sarah and Chuck say they're going to catch their train when Juan Diego tells them he's been on the run and he can tell they don't really want that. Chuck and Sarah wonder if they can go back and tell General Redhead everything, and have a real shot at having it all. They agree not to quit the spy life and be together, with more "I do"s. Then they kiss. Morgan loves it, but Casey practically gags.
Castle. General Redhead congratulates Casey on his success getting the Basque terrorists. He thanks her, and then credits Morgan with being quite helpful. She says an unlikely pair often produces successful results. She dismisses them both, but Morgan steps forward to make a plea for Chuck and Sarah. He doesn't make it far before she orders Casey to get him out of here. She asks Chuck and Sarah to explain, and they both take the fall for the other one. She asks if they both think she's an idiot. They don't, so she says not to lie. So Chuck grabs Sarah's hand and starts to tell her about them, but she says she doesn't want to know all the details. He says she wanted them to be honest, and they want to be, but she says, "No!" Sarah says, "General, Chuck and I are dating. Exclusively." She rolls her eyes, as Chuck and Sarah look at each other and beam. She cautions them that allowing their private life to interfere with their professional life can be dangerous. "But, off the record, it's about damn time." She speaks for all of us when she says that. They start to kiss, and Chuck sees Ellie's apartment door. He says he forgot she was leaving, and takes off.
When he shows up, there's no one there, but the DVD Awesome recorded at the going-away party is. He watches it, and it's a very drunk Ellie slurring that she never has asked Chuck for anything, and all she wanted was a chance to tell him goodbye, but he couldn't give her that. She walks in while he's watching it, and says she forgot her phone. She thinks she's still a little drunk. He apologizes for not being here, but she says it's okay; he missed one party. The truth is, she's upset with herself for leaving her little brother. He assures her he's not so little anymore. She hugs him and they both cry. Sarah walks up, and Chuck tells her she should know she's not leaving him alone. Ellie glows and asks if they're back together. Chuck: "We're together." Sarah smiles.

Later, in his room, Chuck thinks he's found the right song on his record player, and says it will be Sarah's favorite song. Nina Simone starts singing "Feeling Good", and Sarah likes it. Chuck says that's a good start as Ms. Simone starts in with "It's a new dawn / It's a new day / It's a new life for me." They lay down on the bed, side by side, and smile. "And I'm feeling good." They look at each other and smile, then she rolls over and they cuddle. Then he pushes the hair out of her eyes and they kiss. And I am the least romantic person in the world, but that is awesome. So much better, I think, than the sex at the end of that last episode. Because this means more.
week: Chuck asks Sarah to move in. Swoosie Kurtz and Fred Willard show up to teach them a thing or two. But Sarah and Chuck get them back. And there's a tiger.
DeAnn, a writer and editor in Portland, Oregon, thinks the spy plot was pretty lame this episode, but the character stuff was wonderful. You can contact her at twopmodmars@gmail.com.
