The Carnivle and Varlyn both take a break from the road, which allows most of the episode to focus on two storylines. Jonesy and Libby get carny-napped and taken up the highway. The husband of the woman who died in last week's ferris wheel accident is a bit miffed, so he has Jonesy tarred, feathered, and ridden out of town on a rail. Except they're already out of town, so they just tie Jonesy to a rail and leave him in the middle of the desert with Libby. Ben, who's gone out alone in pursuit of Varlyn, comes across Jonesy and Libby. He eventually trades some vultures for Jonesy's life, and even heals Jonesy's leg at no extra charge. Out in California, Iris convinces Eleanor that she's mistaken about Brother Justin's demonic nature. Unfortunately, Eleanor wants to tell Justin about this little misunderstanding because he'll think it's funny. Iris, never having shown much of a sense of humor, clobbers Eleanor with an oar. When Justin delivers his "Sermon on the Mount," Balthus grabs a cop's gun and tries to shoot Justin. Justin's unharmed, but the enraged Shantyvillians try to beat Balthus to death. Justin stops the mob by preaching forgiveness, which makes a big impression on Sofie. That night, Iris tells Balthus that she's on his side, and that they will stop Justin together. Sofie expresses her admiration to Justin (no, not like that), and he tries to teach her to forgive those who have wronged her. Oh yeah, and back at the Carnivle, a Lodz-ified Ruthie writes "Sofie is the Omega" on her mirror.
