We open with Teresa and her partner entering an apartment. The frantic landlady tells us that the woman inside was late with the rent, but when the landlady went inside the apartment to seize some of her belongings, and that's when she found her. "There's so much blood," she says as we watch them run into the apartment. Once inside, the landlady says, "Oh, there she is." A woman is on her back, on a sheet. Blood is around her lower half. Teresa checks for a pulse. "Was she shot?" the landlady asks. "No pulse," Teresa says emotionlessly. They find an empty syringe next to the woman's body. "O.D.?" Teresa asks. Her partner asks the lady if the woman was an addict. The landlady says the woman used to be, but that she's clean now. Teresa looks between the woman's legs and groans. She asks: "Ma'am, did you notice anything about Janice, I'd say, the last eight or nine months?" Landlady: "Oh, God. I completely forgot." Teresa: "She gave birth less than twenty minutes ago." Partner: "Here? But where's the baby?" Teresa: "That's a good question." Opening credits. Oh, Boomtown. Whatever will we do without your shitty, shitty dialogue?
David McNorris. "Sonofabitch!" Wahlberg says during the title card. McPointy tells him he can do better than that. Acting-wise, I guess I'd agree, but who's giving whom tips, here? Wahlberg says he can't do any better than that in public. He asks when "it" is "going down." McPointy says he doesn't know. Neither do we. Nor do we know what they're talking about. McPointy then takes the long path to tell Wahlberg that he's checking himself into rehab: "This uh, little spa nicknamed after a former first lady." Wahlberg asks why McPointy's telling him. McPointy doesn't know: "I don't know much about anything anymore." He says he doesn't know if there will be a job waiting for him when he gets back. Don't know if there will be a second season. Don't know why they bothered making McPointy a sometimes-drunk. McPointy figured telling Wahlberg was the right thing to do, for some reason. Wahlberg's cell phone rings, interrupting McPointy's melodrama. Wahlberg says he has to take the call, since it's his partner. Like everyone in the room doesn't know who that is. Then Wahlberg answers, "Fearless." He hangs up in five seconds and tells McPointy he has to go: "It's a...uh...missing baby." McPointy tells Wahlberg to go and find it. McPointy drags out his remaining screen time by going, "Hey, [Wahlberg]. Uhhhhhuuurrrm....good luck." They shake hands. McPointy gives one last raised fist towards his face and stares into space. We leave McPointy alone in a diner.
Fearless. Teresa hands Fearless the syringe they found. Fearless asks if it was heroin. Teresa says it was "something with a kick," since they barely pulled Janice out of her no-pulse state. Fearless commends her for saving the woman's life. Teresa walks away. Ray and Gedrick walk back into the frame, complaining that there were fifteen cats in the apartment upstairs. Wahlberg tells them to go check the dumpster out back. Ray complains that every time the four of them work together on a case, Wahlberg sends Ray and Gedrick to dance in the dumpsters. Wahlberg offers to do it, but Gedrick says they'll search the dumpster. This is all done with much male bravado, of course. Fearless tells Wahlberg to go home. Didn't he just call him down? Wahlberg says he can't let IA know he knows: "Just gotta wait for it to come down." He says that doing his job is the only thing he knows will keep his mind off "it." Wahlberg reads to Fearless from Janice's day planner, which says she had an appointment with a clinic this afternoon. Fearless knows the clinic, and says it's mostly women on Medicaid. "Dr. D," Wahlberg reads.
