One down, one to go

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Sydney and she was a grad student by day and a spy by night. She had a roommate named Francie and a best friend named Will and a fiancé named Danny and she thought she worked for the CIA, but she really worked for SD-6 and a sadistic little prick named Arvin Sloane. Her daddy worked for him too, but he really worked for the CIA. So then Sydney started working for the CIA too, and became a double agent. Her handler was a hot guy named Vaughn. Then a lot of shit happened. And her mommy came back from "the dead" and it was awesome. And Sydney and Vaughn made out and IT was awesome. And then Sydney went to sleep for two years and it was not awesome. Especially after Vaughn married some bitch. Then a lot more shit happened and it wasn't all that interesting until the bitch got shot and Vaughn told us his name was André Michaux and then he died but really didn't, and along the way there were bad guys who always seemed to have a "The" in their names and some dude named Rambaldi who made a lot of crap that seemed to have no purpose other than to really irritate us every damn week.

And tonight on Alias, it all ends.

We open on the reconstructed Prophet Five board as Sydney says in voice-over: "The first time I learned of Prophet Five, my fiancé was gunned down in front of me. Turns out, he wasn't the first. They killed anyone who got too close. They'd infiltrated the highest levels of governments and the inner sanctums of intelligence agencies. They appeared to control entire sectors of technology, finance, defense. We believed they were run by a group of twelve whose power was everywhere and nowhere because no one knew who they were. Until now. I've lived with secrets all my life, and I'm done."

By the way, you can forget all about what she just said in the paragraph, because we never really learn what Prophet Five is or what they do or who or what The Cardinal is or if Rambaldi is really alive and living in a dank Italian prison basement or if there really was a purpose to all the stupid Rambaldi crap we've had to swallow over the past five years or if the writers really were on crack during the hiatus because this is what they came up with for a finale? Meh. So, now that you know all of this, sit back and enjoy the ride because Alias is over and it's going out with a bang (and sometimes a whimper.)

The first title card we see is one that says "Sydney," and I have to admit that I laughed out loud at that one. Sydney in Sydney! HA! Sydney walks down some steps at what looks a hotel. She's not in any kind of disguise. Unless, of course, you consider a frilly dress and softly curled hair a disguise. Syd sits at the bar and orders a martini. Sitting a ways down the bar is Spongehead Squarejaw and Syd reports in to Jack that she has visual confirmation. Dude? He knows what you look like. Or maybe I just didn't SEE him looking at Page 47 in the last episode, huh? That must be it. I'M BLIND. This show has MADE ME BLIND.

Sydney pulls a lipstick out of her cleavage (of which we get an extreme closeup -- hee) and shoots a picture of Squarejaw. She goes to leave, but overhears the maitre d' talking to a couple whose names she recognizes from the list of Prophet Five aliases. Syd tells Jack about this and she says she's going to try and get pictures of them. "Don't risk blowing your cover," says Jack. What cover? The peach lipstick and frilly dress cover? Because as a cover, it SUCKS.

Rome. Dixon's hanging out in a cab out in front of a building. Jack checks in with him and Dix tells him his target is just arriving. Unfortunately, an Italian guy walks up at the wrong moment and wants a ride in Dix's taxi. Dix tells him in Italian to take a flying leap. Dix's target exits her car, Dix gets his picture, and his assignment is over.

Bangkok. Marshall's hanging out in a sauna wearing a t-shirt and a towel and getting very strange looks from the men surrounding him. Heh. He claims that the reason he's in a tee is because he has a bad skin condition, but since the men surrounding him most likely don't speak English, he probably needn't have bothered. A man enters, and Marshall takes a picture of him with his watch and quickly exits.

Siberia. Getty's hanging out in a gatepost, drinking coffee and bitching about always getting the assignments that involve hypothermia. Why is that, he wonders aloud. "Because you're always late to briefings," quips Jack. Heh. A car approaches and Getty takes their papers. He quickly scans one of their passports with a device and hands it back.

London. Vaughn's on a rooftop, getting ready to take another Prophet picture. A truck gets in the way, so Vaughn runs downstairs and hides the camera in his jacket and walks by the target, easily taking his picture.

Back with Sydney, she knocks out a waitress and steals her uniform. Jack checks in with Syd and tells her he needs to sign off. Syd says she can handle this without him and wishes him luck. He gets out of his car and walks up the steps to the Capitol building. He turns in front of a group of men and asks a passing civilian to take his picture "for [my] granddaughter." The person obliges and, after instructing Jack to smile, something he rarely does and certainly won't do on command from a stranger, gets a shot of Jack and the guy behind him, which is the point, of course.

Syd heads out into the party, and the maitre d' gets all up in her business and Syd has to fake an explanation about covering for "Debbie" and the guy buys it, but before Syd can get the shot of the Prophet people, the bartender discovers Debbie's downed body and he tattles on Syd. She knocks down the maitre d' and flails off with two guards in pursuit. She runs up to the rooftop, hooks herself up to a relay, jumps off the roof, and manages to take a picture of the Prophet duo who just happen to be sitting in front of the window that Syd just happens to be flinging past. Heh. Totally implausible, but totally fun. Just what I like about this show. We cut to Sydney, walking into the Conference Room of Endless Expositions. She sticks up the pictures she took and turns to Jack and Marshall. "Now we know who we're fighting," she says with steely determination.

And now? Now is the time on Alias when we dance. For the very last time.

After the break, we catch up with the Appleseed Gang as Jack briefs them on The Twelve. He says that their global influence is…well, global. Yes, he really says that. I certainly hope Victor Garber was heavily drunk during this scene because that's the only way I can see him getting through some of these lines without going, "Really? NO REALLY? 'Their global influence is GLOBAL'? Are you fucking kidding me with this shit? Thank GOD this is over. MORE MARTINIS."

Getty asks why they don't just make their move and start arresting the members. Jack says they can't because if they arrest them individually, they run the risk of tipping off the others. Jack tasks Marshall with creating a program that can track the movements of all the members. "Oh, no problem," says Marshall. "That should only take me…a lifetime." Jack shoots him a look. Marshall says he'll get right on that. Heh. Syd asks, "What about Sloane?" Jack says they're working under the assumption that Sloane is working for The Twelve. "We take them down," says Jack, "and we get to him."

Speaking of "him," Sloane's hanging out in some dark room somewhere, flanked by his minions. Peyton holds out her hand for the amulet that Syd took from the Rose Rambaldi guy, saying that The Twelve is expecting it. Sloane thinks that, before they hand it over, they should get some leverage with it, correctly assuming that the second Prophet Five has the amulet, their use for the three of them will disappear. Peyton is surprised by his boldness, asking a Prophet Five asset to team up with him on a side deal. Sloane says that, sure, she could walk out of here and spill the plan to The Twelve. "But you won't," sneers Sark. He says that she's like him; she has good instincts and she's in it for the dollars. She'll be well compensated for her part. "So," smirks Peyton. "Does he come with the package?" Ha! Sark glances at her with a raised eyebrow and a quirk to his mouth, as if to say, "Oh, now, really!" Hee. Peyton asks what Sloane has in mind. We don't find that out until later.

Casa de Hotness. Vaughn's tossing and turning. Finally, he wakes up and realizes that Sydney's not to him. She's working at the desk because she can't sleep. As she takes notes from the Rambaldi pages, she tells Vaughn that the Rose Rambaldi man told her that what was inside the amulet was the end of nature and that stars would fall from the sky and that no matter what she did, she couldn't stop it. Vaughn just tells her to consider the source. Syd says that the man recognized her. Well, duh, Sydney. Your picture was on his damn wall. I'd HOPE he'd recognize you. I love how Sydney's been bandied about as the prophecy girl since, what, Season One, and yet everyone keeps acting like no one KNOWS this. Whatever. It's almost over.

"'This woman without pretense,'" says Vaughn, reading from Page 47, "'will have had her effect never having seen the beauty of my sky behind Mount Subasio.'" He drops the page on the desk and dismisses it out of turn, saying that all this talk of fate, well, Sydney's proven it all wrong, time and time again. (And, yes, it's "Subasio," not "Sebacio" as I originally thought. Or, I should say, as the closed captioners originally thought.) "You climbed Mount Subasio," he says. "You saw the sky." Yes, Vaughn. She saw "the" sky but not "his" sky. That's kind of an important detail there, no? Syd says she's concerned about Sloane and all the people he's killed; she doesn't say it, but she's worried that he's going to kill her. And she doesn't want Isabelle to grow up without a mom. Vaughn promises that that will never happen.

Marshall's Bedroom of Geekiness. Marsh gets into bed behind his wife and starts nuzzling her. I realize I'm supposed to believe that they've had sex before (there IS a baby, after all), but I'm not really comfortable WATCHING it. Marsh futilely tries to get Carrie interested in a little boinking, but Carrie's had applesauce flung into her hair and little-to-no sleep, so sex is furthest from her mind right now, really. Mitchell calls from his room and Marsh goes to check on him.

We switch to Rachel's house (when the hell did she get her own apartment?) and Getty's just knocked on the door. Rachel's surprised to see him and asks what's going on. He was just in the neighborhood, trying to invent a reason to stop by. Rachel invites him in and offers him something to drink and, after realizing that she doesn't have any hooch on hand, he agrees to a nice cup of coffee. "You're thinking about her, aren't you?" she says. Getty wishes he'd done things differently, wishes he could have saved his wife. Rachel says that it was Korman's doing, not his, and that he's a good man, and then Getty goes to kiss her and it's oddly awkward and DO IT ALREADY. You know, as much as I like these two actors, this plot has absolutely NOTHING to do with the rest of this finale, so I'm just going to leave it at Rachel likes Getty, Getty likes Rachel, Getty feels guilty for some weird reason and decides to leave while Rachel's getting the coffee.

Meanwhile, Carrie's grown suspicious because Marshall hasn't returned from Mitchell's room yet. She goes to check on them, and the window in Mitchell's room is open. We switch to Rachel again; she enters with two cups of coffee and no Getty anywhere in sight. There's a knock at the door and she opens it, only to find Sark outside. "It's been awhile, hasn't it?" he smarms at her. Before she can run, he slaps a hand over her mouth and we go to commercial.

When we return, Marshall's strapped to a chair in some abandoned office somewhere with a bag over his head. Peyton rips it off and Marshall's confronted with Evil Sloane. Sloane tells Marshall that Rambaldi described an underground cavern and that it had a specific stone structure inside. "I want you to find that cavern for me," says Sloane. He wants Marshall to hack into the government's ground-penetrating satellite network. "You're…tasking me?" says Marshall incredulously. Heh. Marshall's all, uh, in case you don't remember, you're not my boss anymore, SHORTY. "This is not a request," says Sloane. "I will not help you," says Marshall. Sloane glances at Peyton. "Let me know when you persuade him," he says. Peyton moves to Marshall and grabs a large pair of thumb-cutters and…well, uses them to cut off Marshall's thumb. At least, that's what it looks like to me. Put that thing on ice, Peyton! They can use it later!

We switch to Carrie and Sydney, hugging it out over Marshall's disappearance. Carrie's confused as to why a game designer would be kidnapped. Jack and Syd share a glance, and Syd spills the beans about Marshall's real job. Getty calls Jack and tells him that Rachel's missing too. Guess you shouldn't have left so soon, huh, Getty? Carrie's pissed that Marshall lied to her, but Syd explains that he had no choice. Carrie wants to go with them back to APO because she needs something to do and she can help out on the tech side. Jack agrees, and they all head to the Apple Store.

Dungeons and Dandies. Sark is performing his version of torture on Rachel. Fortunately for her, his version involves talking about all the sex they had and looking generally dapper and handsome. He sticks sensors to her chest and right temple as she glares at him. After some not-so-witty repartee, Sark hits a switch and Rachel's body is juiced with electricity.

Apple Store. Dix and Jack are discussing the kidnappings and Dix declares that it was most certainly Sloane. What they don't know is why he did it. Jack thinks Sloane needs something from Marshall and Rachel. "You were right about him," says Jack. "After Irina was extracted and I was taken into custody, I had to designate a guardian for Sydney. I chose Sloane. In spite of everything he's done, I believed some part of him was still a friend. I once trusted him with my daughter. Clearly, I was wrong." Yeah, you sure as hell were, buddy. But that's okay. We love you anyway.

Sydney brings Carrie into Marshall's Garage of Geekiness. Vaughn's toying with his computer (no, that is NOT a euphemism) and having no luck getting into the program Marshall designed to track The Twelve. Carrie's all, "Vaughn! Hi! But you're! Wait! That was a lie! My whole life is a lie! Hey, can I help you with that computer?" Carrie sits down and one second later, she has access. Syd asks what it was and Carrie says, "Moonglum of Elwher." "Oh, well, that was my guess," quips Vaughn. Heh. Carrie asks what else she can do and we switch to Marshall, continuing his torture, already in progress. It looks like he's not bleeding from his hand, so I guess she's only…breaking his fingers? Well, that's effective. Sloane enters and asks for a moment alone with Marshall.

Once she's gone, Sloane tries to talk Marshall into working for him by threatening him with never seeing Mitchell again. "You're not cut out for this, Marshall," he says. "You know, I never liked you," says Marshall. "I tolerated you, because I had to, you know, because you were my superior and I was afraid of you. And I saw how twisted you were. But now I see you for who you really are. You are a weak, pathetic man." Sloane just licks his chops and stares at him. "You know, you're right," continues Marshall. "I'm not cut out for this. But I am thinking about my son. I want Mitchell to look up to me, to be proud of his dad. Which is why, no matter what you do to me…I'll never help you. You know what? I got -- I got a hangnail, right there on my thumb? You mind working on that one ?" HA! Nice, Marshall. I always KNEW you could be a bad-ass.

Sloane slinks off to his corner to have a visit with Dead Nadia. She tells him that Marshall and Rachel will never do what he asks them to. "Why not?" he asks. "Because they have something you don't. Love, family, honor -- take your pick," she responds. Heh. So true. She says he'll never break them, and he agrees and says he'll need to find another way. That "other way" seems to be contacting Sydney directly for a face-to-face, because the thing we see is Sydney getting into her SUV while talking to Jack. She tells him that she's taking Isabelle to the sitter's and she'll be right back and that's when she looks up and sees a little bug perched to her car. Oh, wait. That's Sloane.

With Isabelle on the ground between them, Sloane tells Sydney that if she tries anything it'll end badly. Isabelle coos, and Sloane looks down and hilariously wiggles his fingers at her and smiles. HA! He really is a twisted old fart. Sloane hands Syd his cell phone and tells her that he wants her to talk Marshall into doing his bidding. The second Marshall gets on the phone, he starts babbling at Sydney about Carrie and Mitchell and being strong and Carrie moving on and finally Syd cuts him off and tells him to do whatever it is that Sloane is asking him to. Marshall can't believe what he's hearing. Syd repeats her instructions and asks if there's anything he wants her to tell Carrie. He says yeah, tell Carrie he loves her and that he'll finish reading Littlest Fish to Mitchell when he gets home. Peyton disconnects the call and Syd hands the phone back to Sloane. He skeets off in his black car.

Marshall's sitting at a laptop when Sark escorts Rachel in. She's shackled and has burn marks on her temple and chest. Ugh. Marshall shoots Sark a look and, oddly, Sark kind of guiltily looks at Rachel. Aw. He has a heart! Kind of! It's black as coal and the size of a pinto bean, but it's a heart! Sark tells Rachel that she's to help Marshall in the task at hand and Marshall tells her he got the go-ahead from Sydney. Then he says that he's going to do this and unless she helps him leapfrog the system, it won't work. "Leapfrog?" says Rachel. "We'll have to make sure we're not detected," says Marshall, "or they'll shut us out." Sark looks down at them like his pretty little blond head just can't be bothered with geekery such as this. Rachel suddenly gets what Marshall is saying and responds that they'll have to open a bunch of ports and stay in each one of them no longer than fifteen seconds. Marshall, relieved that she gets what he's trying to tell her, agrees. They get to work.

Apple Store. Vaughn informs Carrie that Marshall is fine. But then he asks her what Marshall might have meant when he mentioned Littlest Fish during the phone call. Carrie says the book is about a boy with a goldfish for a friend and that the fish's name is "Noah." Suddenly, Carrie says, "N.O.A.A.! National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. They monitor weather patterns, ecosystems --" "He's using a state-of-the-art satellite network," breaks in Vaughn. "Maybe Sloane's trying to get them to hack in." Carrie says she can somehow monitor the hack; if she can detect them, she can pinpoint their location.

Marshall and Rachel are sweatily at work at their laptops when Sloane enters and asks if they're making progress. They are. Carrie notes that someone's sending out a massive amount of signatures and she realizes that it's Marshall and that he's intentionally setting off the security protocols. Vaughn asks if she can get their location. We switch back to Rachel, who's just found this "cavern" Sloane was talking about. It's in central Italy, and when she zooms out of the frame, Sloane gets this evil look on his face and says, "I should have known." He exits and Marshall calls out after him, "What happens now?" "Good work!" says Sloane, waving behind him as if dispelling a fart. "As usual!" Marshall and Rachel share a look like, "Okay, we're totally dead now." Carrie locates them in Mexico and the team heads out to rescue them.

Minutes later, Sloane gets off the phone and says that The Twelve are convening. Peyton says they should get going. Sark says that perhaps they should reconsider their plans for the prisoners. Aw! See? There's that kidney-bean-sized heart again! "Don't tell me you're getting sentimental," quips Peyton. "Or do you just have a thing for blondes?" Sark gets this awesome look on his face like, "I do. But I also have a thing for brunettes. Unfortunately, this doesn't mean I have a thing for you. And I never will. Don't cry. It's not personal. It's just business." Heh. Sark says it seems unnecessary and Sloane says it isn't open for discussion. Man, he really has turned fully to the dark side. "Eliminate them," he says, and walks off.

A henchman with a neck the size of a Ford pickup truck enters Rachel and Marshall's room, and Marsh immediately knows their number is up. He babbles about his wife and Mitchell and how he wants another child, maybe a girl, and the henchman just lifts his gun and cocks it. Rachel's up in a flash, hitting him in the neck, grabbing his gun and turning it back on him, shooting him three times in the chest. Heh. "Oh my god!" gasps Marshall. "That was the coolest thing I've ever seen! That was Empire Strikes Back cool!" Hee. Also, I'm totally taking that as a shout-out because it's my favorite film of the series and, even though I've never mentioned that here, I'd like to think that, as crack-addled as they sometimes are, the writers and I are connected telepathically. Feel the love. Rachel unlocks them both and they run down a hallway, only to meet Syd and Getty, who seem to have jumped into a pneumatic tube and arrived in Mexico thirty seconds before they left. Or something. Time travel! It's what's for dinner.

Syd hollers at them both to get down and then she shoots the shit out of some henchmen. Marshall hugs her and Getty helps up Rachel, who doesn't give him a hug, but a look of gratitude. Show him your boobs, Rachel! Come on! Man's about to DIE! Dix and Vaughn, also having traveled via pneumatic tube, arrive on the scene and inform everyone that Sloane has left the building. He's probably traveling via TARDIS to central Italy.

Apple Store. Carrie informs Jack that Marshall's tracking program has picked up the gathering of The Twelve. Something's going down. Sydney calls Jack and tells him that Marshall and Rachel are safe, and he relays this info to Carrie. She weeps. Syd tells Jack about the absent Trio of Eeeeevil and Jack tells her to head to Zurich to check out the meeting of The Twelve. "This is what we've been waiting for," says Sydney. "We can bring them all down." Jack tells her that it's almost over. Yes, it certainly is, Jack. In more ways than one. Thank god.

Marshall's regaling Dix, Vaughn, and Getty with his amazing tale of the Day He Told Sloane To Cut Off His Hangnail while Rachel looks on in amusement. Everyone indulges him until Sydney asks about the cave-mapping in Italy. Marshall mentions that Sloane said the thing about how he should have known, and Syd and Vaughn share a look. Syd asks Rachel where in Italy they were looking, and she tells her Umbria. "Mount Subasio," says Sydney. "Dad's team can handle The Twelve in Zurich. But if they're going after something in Mount Subasio, I'm going to beat them to it." Vaughn says he's going with her.

Mount Subasio. Syd and Vaughn hike up a "mountain" as "snow" "falls." They reach a summit and find a crevasse. Syd wants to go in, but Vaughn isn't sure about it. She is. He hooks her up and puts a tracker on her. They "kiss" and it's not "awkward" at all and finally Syd heads down into the crevasse. Once inside, she makes her way through the K-Mart version of Superman's Fortress of Solitude while all the kids in line for the Matterhorn wonder if that second Mickey pop was possibly a good idea. The set is bad, is what I'm saying. There's been talk on the boards that the team ran out of money by the time they got to this set, so that's why it looked so cheap. And to that I say, poo on you, ABC. You dropped the ball with this show so many times, but now, in its eleventh hour, you can't be arsed to throw a little extra coin at a damn snow set? Fuck you, ABC. And fuck the possibly imaginary polar bear you rode in on.

Syd treks through the "ice cavern" and comes across Sloane, standing over by some "icicles" with the amulet raised above his head. "Sydney, you came," he says calmly. "Oh, and how do you like the place? I made it myself out of Styrofoam peanuts and rubber cement. I'm so crafty!" Sydney raises her gun and Sloane warns her that one shot could trigger a cave-in. Syd says he's coming with her, and Sloane asks if she remembers going to live with Emily and him. "I try not to dwell on it," she snits. Sloane blabbles a bunch of crap at her about how she was withdrawn and they tried to reach out to her but it was impossible, so they gave her a bunch of stuffed animals. We get a shot of Carrie and Marshall hugging back at APO as Sloane continues to blather about Sydney's sad childhood. And every morning, when Sloane went to wake her up, there they'd be, beneath her blanket. She had tried to "rescue" them from a storm. And even then, Sloane wondered when she'd realize that she can't rescue everyone.

We then see Sark hitting a timer on a device. We don't know what it is yet, but we can assume it's nothing good. We switch to Jack, telling the team that he's received word from Zurich and that his team is in place. Getty enters and says he found a schematic of the L.A. subway system at Sloane's safe house. It would appear that Sloane is targeting APO. Jack tells them to clear the building and tells Getty and Dix to head down to the subway system with a search team in order to locate anything out of the ordinary. He also wants Rachel and Marshall to evacuate all civilians from the subway system by calling in a bomb threat.

Back with Syd and Sloane, he says she really needn't have bothered with the secret message to Marshall earlier because he's accounted for everyone; Prophet Five, APO, he had to remove those obstacles. "If you so much as touch anyone else I love --" "The time for threats has passed, Sydney," Sloane snaps. "Besides, even if I wanted to, I couldn't stop it now." We catch up with Peyton, looking evilly hot, as she greats a Prophet Five guard at a gate. She says that Sloane couldn't make it, so she's there in his place. She heads up to meet The Twelve. Sloane says that he's making sure that all of this is going to happen and that she of all people should understand that. "There's no shying away from fate," he says. "I don't believe in fate," she says. Sloane just says he's very glad she's here instead of there, because he wouldn't want her to be there when "it" happens. She asks him what he's done, and we get a sweeping shot of APO as everyone scrambles to get the hell out.

Dix and Getty run through the subway system. Getty comes across a subway train and walks through the cars, finally finding a very large bomb on one of them. He tells Jack what he's found. Sloane is STILL talking. He says he never wanted Sydney to suffer as she did when she was a child or when she lost Danny or when she lost Vaughn. Back with Getty, Dix asks if he can disable it, but Getty can't without triggering the failsafe. But he can slow down the clock with liquid nitrogen and give them enough time to get everyone to safety. Dix says that'll only buy him twenty seconds and Getty responds, "Not if I stay here and keep hitting it." Dix realizes what this means and tells him to do what he can, but get to safety as soon as he can. Getty starts hitting the timer and it stops.

We switch back to Peyton, meeting with The Twelve. She opens up her case to get the amulet, but instead she pulls out two submachine guns and starts shooting. Everyone goes down. Wow. For an all-powerful cabal of control freaks, they're certainly not very well-protected, are they? Amazing no one's thought of just shooting the shit out of them before. Peyton and her bouncing hair of bounciness bounce off.

Meanwhile, SLOANE IS STILL TALKING. He tells Syd that he's offering her a chance to walk and she says she can't do that. He tells her that the only person she can rescue is herself. Back with Getty, he's still spraying. He checks in with Jack and asks after the civilians and Jack tells him that the last of the people just made it out. "Good," says Getty with a tone of regret. Jack tells him not to lose his sixty-second window and to get up top now, but Getty's already gone past that window, so there's no chance for him to make it out alive. He sits down on a seat and asks if Jack can patch him through to Rachel. "Tom, you need to get out!" she says, once he's patched through. "Yeah," he says. "Hey, Rachel? I wish there were more time. I would've asked you out." "I would've said yes," she says, crying.

And then the bomb goes off. And APO is no more. And neither is Getty.

Back on Mount Subasio, Vaughn's still staring at his tracker PDA when the sun starts coming up over the mountain. Down below, Sloane turns and holds The Amulet up to the light streaming in through a hole in the "ice wall." "Mmm," he grunts. "The sky…mmm." Syd watches as suddenly, the light creates some patterns on the wall through the amulet. "I'm sorry, Sydney," says Sloane, "this isn't my choice. But you're not allowed to see this." He shoots the hell out of the ice beneath her feet and she plummets endlessly through another crevasse to her death.

Or does she?
