When April follows Matthew outside to tell him to be safe at the landslide, he turns and guesses correctly that Jackson is April's one former lover. He then gets a little martyr-y, griping that he gets that Jackson is hot, and Matthew's public proposal didn't give April the chance to say no. Instead, he asks her now if she wants to say no. She doesn't say anything, which really speaks volumes, and he leaves her standing there, all tortured. Man, they make April really hard to like sometimes. I find Matthew to be cute but dull as dishwater, but he at least deserves to have the girl who begged for him back to then act like she actually wants to be with him.
This episode seems to be making some leaps in time from scene to scene: the we see of Arizona, she gets home to the apartment and pretty quickly realizes it's empty and something is wrong. She finds the closet as well as Sofia's dresser half empty, and begins to panic, screaming Callie's name when she realizes she's done a runner.
Derek, holding Lil' B, tells us and Mere that Heather's mom is driving down from Oregon but that she hasn't been told yet that her daughter died since Derek didn't want to do that while she was on the road. Mere tells him that he needs to pick up Zola so that she doesn't think they forgot about her and then take her home to the babysitter, where Zola can then think they forgot about her amongst her own belongings. He decides to have the interns stick around to keep Heather's mom company in case she gets there before he gets back.
Lydia is now in her own room and Cristina is monitoring her closely. She manages to pull aside her oxygen mask to again ask about her house, but Cristina tells her that she's lost a lot of blood and should rest and not worry about it for now. Never before has anyone put an oxygen mask back on so dejectedly. I do actually feel for her -- this kind of thing is terrifying and you want to know if your world is still intact or not -- but it's also true that there is a lot going on and it's probably not anyone's priority just for the few hours to report back. Let's keep everyone alive and without viruses eating their flesh first, hmm?
Catherine has come down and is aiming all of her wrath at Owen, demanding to know how he could have approved such a risky procedure. He's giving it to her right back, though, pointing out that she can't yell at his surgeons when a body is open on the table. Bailey then walks out and Catherine starts in on her, icily calling her out for what she said to Richard about him being a drunk and claiming that her guilt is the only reason she's making such dumb risky decisions now. All of her claws are out and she doesn't hesitate to use every one of them as she continues to yell. Bailey finally just walks away, but her face betrays that Catherine have just hit a liiiiiitle bit of a nerve. However, I also think she's just genuinely trying to save the life of her mentor. Catherine then demands that Owen give her access to Richard's charts. Hell hath no fury like an Avery scared.
Stephanie then goes to the locker room where the other interns surround Heather's mom as she tearfully pulls Heather's belongings out of her locker. After a few stilted attempts to compliment Heather's surgical skills, a desperate Princess steals the jello cup story and tells it as her own. The other girls start to fill in other hilarious stories that really are just variations on their own secrets from earlier. But Mere was right -- at least this gets a brief half-smile from the woman. She notices that Smash still hasn't said a word and walks up to him, saying that they must have been close. She then gives him a big hug while he wishes that he could disappear.
April, thoroughly rejected by Jackson, finds poor sad Matthew and pulls him into the chapel. He's really reluctant but she announces that she wanted to accept his proposal in private, with no pressure, in front of God. She then tells him that actually, she's proposing to him! He just tells her he thinks she needs to think things through, but she insists that she did. Yes, if by "did" she means she tried to marry someone else and when she was rejected she sprinted off to find the guy she likes second best to convince him to stay in their engagement. Solid. She admits that she had been involved with Jackson and she has some feelings for him but that he'll always be a part of her life and maybe she'll get a little confused again the time he almost dies but really, at this moment she for sure wants Matthew. She babbles some more about never being the girl anyone picked, and she sees eight sides to every situation, blah blah blah have to love that about me ugh. But of course, Matthew is ultimately charmed by it, and sweeps her up in his arms.
Back at the hospital, presumably the morning, Callie walks up to Arizona and tells her that Sofia is back in daycare. Arizona jumps in with an apology for calling her a baby snatcher but Callie wasn't finished -- she explains that she'll take Sofia back to the McMansion tonight, and then Arizona will get Sofia for two nights, and they'll keep up with that until they figure out a more permanent solution. Arizona is shocked to her core and asks how long this is going to go on, but Callie says she doesn't know. Arizona… you had sex with someone else and if that wasn't bad enough, it's while your wife was being extremely patient while trying to get your own sex life back on track and feeling rather neglected, and you think this was going to blow over in 48 hours? Come on, now.
