Jackson keeps trying to convince Evie to come out but she just stares at him, stone-faced, and he can't quite reach far enough to grab her.

Pretty quickly, Bailey realizes that they aren't going to be able to save any of Meredith's spleen and they'll have to take the whole thing out. I remain convinced that appendixes and spleens exist only to cause problems and to be removed.

Callie is still tending to Evie's mom as the docs all realize that Jackson is missing. After a moment Callie thinks she can see him behind the wreckage, and April starts to run towards it, yelling at Jackson to get out. The fire looks the same as it has for most of the episode, but everyone's panicked yells say that it's finally, truly about to blow for real. And sure enough, Matthew grabs April and pulls her back just as the entire undercarriage of the bus goes up in a big bang.

Happily, the parents are all doing a fine job keeping the babies breathing in the NICU. Derek is sitting quietly with Fetus when Cristina comes and knocks on the window, and the two of them have a telepathic conversation through the glass that then leads to the dramatic slo-mo run we saw earlier.

April is in a complete frenzy, screaming Jackson's name, sure he blew up with the bus. But after a moment the hero emerges through the smoke, carrying a still stone-faced Evie. Evie's mom sobs and thanks him, while April breaks down in tears and Matthew grabs her in a hug.

Richard goes down to the basement and calls Frank's name a few times, but there's only silence. As he walks to one edge of the room water has started to pool and he sloshes through it until he sees Frank slumped over and unconscious. Richard runs to him, lowers him to the ground and begins to do chest compressions.

Jackson seems to have done something nasty to his shoulder in rescuing Evie so Callie has him sitting with his magnificent torso on display as she gets him bandaged up. April then runs up to him and completely loses the plot, shoving him and screaming in an ear-splitting pitch that he could have died. Callie has to literally pull her off of him and then orders her away, while Jackson tries to absorb whatever it was that just happened. April storms off while Matthew watches, confused, and then turns from April to Jackson and possibly has a moment of clarity about April and to whom she may have gifted her precious flower.

Derek and Cristina are sitting on a gurney in the hallway, waiting out Meredith's surgery. Both of them look shell shocked, and Cristina is trying very hard not to cry. Derek tells her that Fetus is going to be fine, and she's glad to hear it. He then starts to crack a little about Mere but Cristina stops him. Finally, the show is tackling head-on just how many ludicrous life-threatening situations Meredith has been in over the past few years and Cristina reminds Derek of all of them: she's survived a bomb, drowning, a gunman, and a plane crash so she's not going to die during surgery today. Also, she's the only Grey left on a show with her name in the title. Cristina tells Derek that Mere has to be fine. "She's our person." It's a really sweet moment to have Cristina acknowledge that Mere belongs to both of them that way, and she then reaches out and rubs Derek's back to try and reassure him.
