When Mere walks up to the ER desk with her tablet April excitedly shows her how the info she just put in automatically changes on the board with a happy ding. They then get to chatting, with April asking about the baby and Mere asking about Hot Paramedic Matthew. April says sadly that he's perfect and wonderful and she'll probably have to break up with him. When Mere asks why, April desperately asks if this is a real question, pleading that she needs to talk to someone about it. Mere is now a little bit terrified, but she's in too deep and has to be the ear April wants. April tells her that Matthew has never... been to the carnival, and he thinks April has never been either but since she has, and she's ridden the rides, she's missing the carnival greatly and wants him to go too. Mere realizes she's talking about Jackson the Human Carnival Ride and points out that she's not the one to ask since she loves the carnival and goes as often as she can. She finally proposes that there must have been a reason God let April go to the carnival already, and maybe that reason is that she's then supposed to take Matthew. April can't wrap her mind around this and realizes that she really did ask the wrong person.
Callie finds Arizona looking at scans but things quickly turn saucy when Arizona suggests that that night they ride the carnival rides themselves. Callie is excited beyond belief, and poor Bailey picks this very unfortunate moment to come in and try to pitch the two of them on her genome mapping. She reminds them that they said the door was always open and she won't be driven away so finally Callie resorts to telling Bailey just what it was that they were talking about. Suitably horrified, Bailey quickly takes her leave. Both of the ladies seem positively giddy about going to the carnival later.
Bailey then finds Mere operating on Martha Kent and begins to pitch her, knowing she has a captive audience who can't walk away and won't be talking about the carnival she's going to later. Is Bailey new? The OR is Carnival Corporate Office, where everyone is discussing the various carnivals that are taking place around town at any one time. But as Mere is operating with a bunch of people we've never seen before, she probably will be keeping the conversation appropriate in this one instance. Bailey begins her pitch and thinks that Mere is responding to her but Mere is actually exclaiming sadly over a cancerous mass she has found inside Martha. Bailey quickly joins her to help but as they dig deeper it only looks worse and worse, and finally Mere concedes that they just have to give up and close her up.
