Episode Report Card Kim: B+ | Grade It Now! YOU GRADE IT Poker Face
By Kim | Season 16 | Episode 2 | Aired on 03.25.2013
Judges? Len compliments Andy's commitment and says it was fun to watch, if awkward in places. Bruno calls it "outlandish and crackers." Carrie Ann does some dance moves and says that Andy was lucky he got jazz, because he got to be demented and nail it. Scores: Carrie Ann 7, Len 6, and Bruno 7. Those are probably the highest scores Andy will get this season, so he should enjoy it.
Sean and Peta have the jive this week, and Sean struggles with both the speed and remembering the steps. And also, showering I guess? He tells Peta that he didn't take a shower for two days. Yuck. Anyway, I like their theme of retro beach goers; it's very Frankie and Annette. And at least it's not the typical '50s greaser routine. Sean starts out pretty good, but the longer the song goes on, the less it feels like dancing and the more it feels like marching in place. He's quite flat-footed and he doesn't flick his feet when he kicks, which I'm sure Len will point out.
Judges? Bruno thinks Sean has charm and charisma, but it was less jive than jitterbug, which is Peta's fault, not Sean's. Carrie Ann thought it was solid, but he needs to work on listening to the music instead of just doing the steps in order. Len didn't see much jive, and again, that's Peta's fault, not Sean's. I get why they have to point it out, but I feel bad for the dancer who takes the blow. Scores: Carrie Ann 7, Len 6, and Bruno 7.
Last week, I was a little disappointed by Aly's performance. Seeing her dance with Mark, with her long brown hair and fringey dress, she just reminds me of Bristol. Anyway, Mark was pleased with her ability to pick up the steps in their quickstep routine, but he really wanted her to work on emotion, because she's used to keeping a stone face while performing as a gymnast. This routine is a little slower than I expected from an athlete, and she does seem a bit robotic like her brain is going, "Smile two three four and pucker two three four" instead of just feeling the music and dancing. She misses a few steps but gets through it well. For week two, it was solid.
Judges? Carrie Ann thinks it was the best quickstep of the night. Len thought it was technically terrific, although her head was a little far to the left. Bruno calls her "a magic little bluebird." Did I watch a different routine than they did? I didn't think it was that great. Scores: Carrie Ann 8, Len 8, and Bruno 8. Wow.
Lisa and Gleb have the jive and Lisa complains and complains about the physical aspect of it, because she's kind of a whiner, and spoiled besides. She doesn't deserve Gleb. Despite his weird name, he's really, really handsome. Lisa has that old lady stiffness through her mid section and it makes her whole routine awkward, plus she doesn't seem to know what to do with her arms when she's holding them out straight. She needs more precision. It is quite a fast routine, though, so I'll give her that.
