Episode Report Card Kim: B+ | Grade It Now! YOU GRADE IT Drawing The Line, Part I

By Kim | Season 1 | Episode 7 | Aired on 11.09.1998

Another RA meeting. There were more RA meetings in this episode than ever again in all the other episodes combined. I kind of miss them. Anyway, they are discussing how the hallways aren't supposed to be used as bowling alleys when Knoll pipes up again about how his "friend" redrew the line. The other RAs drop the façade and ask Knoll about his relationship, advising him to be honest with the girl, because all he can do is be a good friend, and let whatever may happen, happen. Knoll asks whether they all knew that it was about him all along, and they all say that they did.

Krakow and Julie head to Julie's room after a night out, clearly the better (or worse) for alcohol. Julie starts babbling about how fun their night was as Krakow starts kissing her and leading her into her room, closing the door.

Elena is in her room, packing up. Knoll knocks and enters. Elena looks disgusted with him. Knoll stammers out something about Elena claiming not to have as much money as Felicity or her friends. Elena sarcastically replies that her "big fat secret" is out. Knoll explains that he got a small scholarship, and applied for tons of grants, and took out a bunch of loans to be able to afford college. His point is that he knew that he would never be judged for how he got through college, but that he would be judged if he didn't go at all. Elena complains that he's giving her a speech. Knoll replies that no one cares how you pay for school, and that there are a lot of people who would kill to get into their college, and that they would all hate Elena right now. Knoll finishes, "But if there were a scholarship for white, Irish Catholic kids with preppy clothes and web pages, I'd grab it. No humility. No shame." He leaves, and Elena smiles. Later, Elena plays the record that Blair gave her. She thinks for a while, then reaches into her garbage can and pulls out the paper about the scholarship, and starts filling it out.

Felicity is getting food in the cafeteria when Elena approaches her. Elena explains that she thought it would be dumb to turn down the scholarship without finding out more about it. Felicity agrees. Elena says that she talked to the woman who provides the scholarship, and was offered "full tuition, no terms." Felicity is happy for Elena, but Elena adds that she wanted to add a term -- she wanted to pay the money back. The woman refused. Instead, the woman said that when Elena becomes a doctor, she has to offer the same scholarship to someone else. Felicity asks whether Elena is okay with that; Elena says that she is, and thanks Felicity. Elena walks off. Ben approaches and tells Felicity that Blair told him about Elena, and that it was really cool of Felicity to help out. Felicity thanks him; they sit down at a table and start talking.
