Episode Report Card Kim: A | Grade It Now! YOU GRADE IT Dancing on the Ceiling
By Kim | Season 6 | Episode 20 | Aired on 05.19.2008
Len thought it was exciting. He thinks Cristian has "a lot of gear at the rear." He thought Jason was elegant, but didn't think the cha cha is Jason's strength. And he thought Kristi combined the best of both of them. Bruno thought Cristian showed great improvement since week one, Jason's timing was a bit off, and Kristi is in a class of her own. Carrie Ann liked being able to compare them side-by-side. She dings Cristian's posture, points out Jason's awkward arms, and says that Kristi won that one hands down.
Time for scores! Cristian and Cheryl are first: Carrie Ann 8, Len 9, and Bruno 9 for a total of 26. Cristian points out that they got a 21 the first time they did the cha cha cha. After the break, we hear Jason's scores: Carrie Ann 8, Len 8, and Bruno 8 for a total of 24. What about Kristi? Carrie Ann 10, Len 10, and Bruno 10 for a total of 30.
Kristi and Mark rehearse their freestyle. Mark reminds us that he dislocated his shoulder during his freestyle with Sabrina last season, so no pressure there. They try to rehearse a move where Kristi boosts Mark so he can do a backflip, but Kristi won't commit to it and Mark is worried he'll land on his head. They bring Julianne, who was Mark's former partner, in to show Kristi how it's done. Mark tosses Julianne around like a ragdoll, and I love how Julianne is giving Kristi instruction while, like, upside down and spinning. She's a pro.
The routine begins with Mark and Kristi in pajamas and bathrobes, which they strip off to reveal black pinstriped sparkly outfits. The one thing that bugs me, and I don't know why, is that they're both wearing Converse low-tops. It just looks stompy to me. As with most freestyles, there's not much actual dancing involved; it's moving from one stunt to the next. They do a lot of moves, but none of them really wow me, although I'm sure it's easy to say that from the comfort of my couch. And there were no obvious mistakes, which is something. When the dance ends, Tom points out how exhausting it must have been. Bruno thought it was "an inspiring fusion of mambo and hip hop" and was impressed with the difficulty of the routine. Carrie Ann thought Kristi was a huge crowd-pleaser and she loved it. Len doesn't love hip hop, but this routine held his attention from start to finish. Mark and Kristi can't believe that Len liked it, nor can anyone else. Scores: Carrie Ann 10, Len 10, and Bruno 10 for a total of 30, so that's two perfect scores for them tonight.
