Well, Violet's the proof that it's wrong, because if anything, she's even harder to take upon her return to L.A. (after her Costa Rican adventure and then her decision to live in New York, which she explains to Pete was just her "crisis point," no big deal). She comes in and wants to see Lucas. Pete bends over backwards accommodating her, bringing Lucas to hang out with her at the office, and convincing Addison to be okay with this and to help him be okay with it. But then Violet, after two days back, is ready to discuss and move toward sharing custody. Pete's not having it, and would rather take it slow. She seems to agree taking it slow is good, but at the end of the episode, she tells Cooper she's going to sue Pete for custody. Well, that should convince him once and for all that Addison's the one, not Violet.
That is, if Addison can keep herself from making out with Sam, who lets Little Shephard convince him to fight for Addison, so he forcefully makes out with her on their back balconies. And Pete catches them. It leads to a big, sad moment for Pete and Addison, where they both seem to step up and choose each other. And it leads to a bonding moment for Sam and Little Shephard, too, because she ends up revealing that she doesn't know what she wants or who she is, which is why she's floating around doing nothing (at least until she knows if this show's going to be canceled and she needs to jump ship to the other one).
Cooper spends the episode dealing with a kid who has pica. Sheldon and Cooper want to get to the bottom of the cause to try to fix it, but the kid's mom is impatient and just wants him to quit eating dirt and couch cushions (hey, maybe my dog has pica?). Sheldon's pissed that she's not patient, and then even more pissed when he finds her eating toilet paper in the bathroom. She admits she had it as a kid, but willed herself to stop until now, because she's so upset. Cooper gets unnecessarily angry about her lying to her son and how he'll never be able to trust her. Then he talks to the kid, and begs him to forgive her, for himself. He says he never has forgiven his parents for lying to him (he had an older brother who died two years before he was adopted, that they didn't tell him about until much later, making him feel like a replacement). He thought he'd forgiven them, but this situation made him realize he never would. Which leads to his breakthrough that maybe that's why he can't forgive Charlotte: He feels like the replacement for her husband, because of his childhood trauma. So now he's going to try to get her back. Oh, and Sheldon and Cooper have a total HoYay moment, which shocked me into loving the whole episode.

The full recap starts right below!We pick up where we left off weeks ago, with Violet showing up at Pete's and everyone acting all weird about it, like Violet and Addison seeing each other is the worst thing that could ever happen. Seriously, show: Melodrama much? Violet says she could have called first, but Pete says it's fine, then Violet comes in all, "So, you and Addison?" But realizes Addison is RIGHT THERE, so she turns and says hi to her. Then Violet starts crying about how big Lucas is, and how she's a stranger to him now. Pete comforts her and then she cries more, all pirate squinty-eyed as she apologizes. She holds Lucas, which obviously stresses Addison out. Because she watches Pete, Lucas and Violet and is thinking, "That's a family."
At the office, Violet's alone in the breakroom when she realizes everyone's outside the window gawking. They all come in, acting awkward, until she tells them to go ahead and ask. Charlotte asks if she's all messed up and freaky still, and everyone shushes her, but Violet answers that she's ready to be Lucas's mom. Addison comes in then and says "Good morning," but it's awkward, and Cooper even mouths something to Violet. No one talks, so Addison goes to do work. Everyone else does, too. In Cooper's office are two adults, who say their kid is in the restroom. Cooper asks if it's a stomachache, but the parents say it's a little more than that. The kid walks in with a hockey mask on, and Cooper asks if he's a hockey player. Nope. But when Cooper asks him to take the hockey mask off, the kid's all, "My parents don't let me." Dramatic music and then sunny title card. When we're back, the parents are filling Cooper in that the kid eats things that aren't food: part of his pillow, couch cushion pieces. The parents beg Cooper to help.
Pete finds Addison in her office and asks if she's okay. She says she is, but he tells her he knows this is weird. She says it's great Violet's back and wants to see Lucas. Right? Pete sighs and says Violet wants to see him again, so he's going to bring him to the office tomorrow if it's okay with Addison. She says she's not his mother. Pete tells her she does so much for him and is "not nobody to him." Addison agrees, but says he's Violet's child. Pete walks around and hugs her, and says he wants her to be okay with him letting Violet try. She gets teary, and he says he needs Addison to help him be okay with it, because it's scary for him. Addison says she's okay, and this is going to be good for Lucas. He leaves her and she looks less okay then she's letting on.
