Episode Report Card Jeff Long: B | Grade It Now! YOU GRADE IT The Menstrual Show
By Jeff Long | Season 10 | Episode 9 | Aired on 09.13.2012
Elena is laughing at pictures of herself in Ukrainian clothes. She interviews that the happiest times in her life were when she was growing up in the Ukraine. That's why she's crying so hysterically right now. Her mom tells her that she can do this. Sonjia feels like having her mom there might make her lose focus, which is a really good point. Dmitry is using a traditional ornament from Belarus as the inspiration for his pattern. Melissa is excited to show her parents what she has been doing for the past decade. Ven is making a print with a hibiscus flower on it, because it's an ode to his religion. Christopher is having difficulty, because he's not a fan of prints. His mother tells him to make it work. Fabio gets abstract.
Melissa does this work with lines and the color red, which she feels represents her bloodline. She laughs that she has never had to design before with her mother standing over her shoulder. Gunnar decides to use his bullying past as inspiration for his print. He makes skeleton hands and a bird is breaking free of them. OK. His mother loves the final sketch. Tim comes in and takes all of the mothers and co. away.
They all go to Mood and Tim reminds them that they're looking for materials to supplement the print that is being made for them. Dmitry says that he is so glad that he got time to spend with his friend and let some old emotions out. Elena also says that she's feeling much lighter after having spent time with her mother. She insists in her interview that she's not usually a bitch. I don't believe that for even a second. I bet she's a lot more fun at other times, but I bet she is always a bitch.
Back at the workroom, Gunnar announces that he wants to make an equestrian jacket, because that's his heritage. I think because everyone was so nasty during the last challenge, no one is really interesting in challenging that. Also, Christopher shows his pattern, which is based on ladybugs. Ladybugs are apparently very important to his family. Ven says that he's going to use his print as the embellishment, instead of in an "expected" way.
In the sewing room, Ven asks Dmitry what he will be making and he matter-of-factly explains that he cannot make another dress. He's not feeling pressured though, which is interesting to see. It's like he just genuinely really liked making dresses. Christopher is apoplectic. He says that he can't design his piece without having the print in front of him. Sonjia, who more and more interviews like she really just hates the guys, says that Christopher is freaking out and just needs to make something. For her part, she decides to make patterned pants and is very concerned that they fit properly.
