Episode Report Card Jeff Long: A+ | Grade It Now! YOU GRADE IT The She-Lady Silk Chiffonie Haters Club
By Jeff Long | Season 10 | Episode 7 | Aired on 08.30.2012
After the show, Sonjia, Dmitry and Ven are safe. Sonjia is thrilled. Dmitry is really upset that he wasn't in the top. They can't really figure out who is in the top and bottom. Heidi says that there were four clear high scores and two in the bottom.
They love Fabio's dress. Nina thinks that you could wear it a lot of different places. Michael doesn't think the zipper really works. Heidi thinks that Christopher's dress is beautiful and loves the pink top. Michael says that, though they love the shredding technique, they don't want to see it again. Nina thinks it's pretty but won't work on a lot of bodies, though it does fit in with the rest of the collection.
Melissa had one of the high scores! Michael thinks that the neckline is surprising. He thinks that the hem of the dress is too much. Heidi thinks it's stunning and a show stopper. Bonnie loves that she was able to make a strapless dress with that much structure at the collar.
Heidi tells Gunnar that he had one of the low scores. Nina says that she has seen it before. Michael thinks they probably already sell a dress like this at Lord & Taylor. He's pretty shocked that he's one of the low scorers.
Elena? High scorer. She immediately bursts into tears and Heidi asks her what the problem is. She says that she has just struggled to give the judges what they want and still be true to herself. Heidi thinks it's a salable dress- girly with an edge. Nina loves the back, with the harness. Bonnie thinks it's very French. Michael reminds her that fashion is about balancing art and commerce, which he believes that she managed with this challenge.
So, Alicia must know that she has one of the low scores. She says that she doesn't really make girly dresses. Heidi says that she likes the dress, but she doesn't like what Alicia just said. Bonnie doesn't think it's really a cocktail dress. Nina understands that she was trying something different, but she thinks it's dowdy. Michael says that it looks like a field hockey uniform. Does it? I don't know, I feel like there have been several dog whistle comments happening on this episode. What are people trying to say?
Backstage, Elena is elated and Gunnar is so upset he can't even talk. The judges confirm and note that there were no train wrecks. No one did a really bad job. They think that Christopher's look was in incredibly good taste. They find Fabio's dress versatile, but Heidi -- noting that she is wearing a pink disco ball -- thinks that it wasn't fun enough. Melissa's dress is deemed the most dramatic but the hardest to sell. Michael thinks maybe Elena's dress was a little too young, though Bonnie and Nina disagree. They don't think that Gunnar's dress was special enough. Heidi's still hung up on Alicia saying she doesn't make sexy work.
